Lieutenant Commander Alana Pierce was a time-displaced individual. Originally a male officer from the 23rd century, Pierce served on multiple starships before a temporal distortion catapulted her into the late 24th century. After arriving in this new era, she endured a transporter pattern buffer accident, forcing her to adapt to her new life and time. Rear Admiral Anderson assigned her to the USS Theurgy, where she joined the battle against the parasitically infested Starfleet Command and quickly rose to the position of Chief Intelligence Officer.

Biography

James Alan Pierce was born in 2254 in New Haven, Earth. Growing up, he enjoyed all the advantages that the Federation and Earth had to offer. His curiosity led him to the stars, eager to uncover the hidden aspects of events unfolding around him.

As he matured, Pierce joined Starfleet, setting his sights on becoming an officer. Inspired by the legendary tales of Captains Pike and Kirk, he aspired to achieve greatness in his duties. Fresh out of the Academy, he served with Captain Kirk on the original Enterprise for a brief but impactful two-year stint.

In late 2278, Pierce transferred to the USS Eagle (NCC-956), a refit Constitution-class vessel, one of his favorite designs. With this change, he shifted his specialization from Tactical to Intelligence, driven by a desire to delve deeper into missions and participate in covert operations. His passion for adventure and Starfleet’s peacekeeping mission fueled his career progression.

Over the years, Pierce climbed the ranks, eventually becoming the Executive Officer aboard the USS Eagle (NCC-956) with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. His journey was marked by a relentless pursuit of knowledge and a commitment to Starfleet’s ideals.

Incident of 2284

In 2284, the USS Eagle (NCC-956) embarked on a covert mission to secure a critical component for the highly classified “Project Genesis.” Despite the project’s ultimate failure, the concept and process were groundbreaking. The mission required multiple ships to source various materials, with the USS Eagle (NCC-956) tasked with obtaining protomatter for the matrix to function. This delicate operation involved coordinating with Romulan and Orion contacts, all while keeping the mission off the books and away from Starfleet’s radar. Admiral Cartwright, then head of Starfleet Intelligence, orchestrated the mission, setting in motion a series of highly unethical events. Tragically, a close friend of Pierce’s lost their life in the line of duty while acquiring the substance.

Cartwright’s plan was a near-suicide mission that could have sparked interstellar war in the quadrant. The other factions were puzzled by Starfleet’s need for protomatter and the quantities involved. As the USS Eagle (NCC-956) prepared for the meeting, rumors surfaced that Cartwright intended to test the protomatter before handing it over to the scientists and Dr. Marcus. Although Cartwright was not a scientist, it was believed he wanted to assess the device’s destructive capabilities.

Pierce, sensing something amiss, analyzed the data and discovered that the USS Eagle (NCC-956) was the intended detonation site. Cartwright had planted Romulan agents to set the capsule off on a timer. This type of capsule could not be beamed and had to be transported via shuttlecraft. Pierce managed to use a tractor beam to push the capsule away from the ship before reaching high warp. The capsule detonated, destroying the other vessels and nearly taking the USS Eagle (NCC-956) with it. While the full aftermath remained unclear, the ship and its crew were saved.

Cartwright denied any involvement in the incident, but Pierce was subsequently sidelined from intelligence operations and reserved for more dangerous missions. He continued to serve primarily as the Executive Officer of the USS Eagle (NCC-956) during this period. It wasn’t until 2286 that Cartwright personally called upon Pierce again.

Mission of 2286

In 2286, tragedy struck when Pierce accepted an undercover intelligence-gathering mission in Klingon space. His objective was to obtain samples of a rare form of bio-mimetic gel the Klingons were using for genetic experimentation. Additionally, he was tasked with hacking into their database to compile the plans and formulas for the compound and then destroy the database. The Klingon Empire, in their quest to surpass the Federation, employed enzymes from key plants on the surface of the Qu’Vat Colony—the same location where the Klingons had created the augment virus over a century ago. They aimed to succeed where others had failed by developing a new form of a Klingon mutagenic virus. Their plan involved combining the enzymes and bio-mimetic gel with Klingon and Gorn DNA to create the ultimate warrior.

Pierce managed to gather a few containers of the material before the Klingon and Gorn DNA was added. However, he was captured before he could complete his mission. Before his capture, Pierce downloaded the information, transmitted it back to Starfleet Command, and initiated a viral deletion code to prevent the Empire from advancing their project.

During his escape, Pierce secured the physical materials onboard a shuttlecraft. Amidst the ensuing battle, his shuttle collided with a Temporal Distortion, leading to his status as Missing in Action. The cause of the distortion during the battle remained unknown, but Pierce’s valiant efforts earned him the Christopher Pike Medal of Valor posthumously. His bravery and dedication to Starfleet’s mission were remembered and honored, even as the mystery of his disappearance lingered.

The 24th Century

In 2380, Pierce’s shuttlecraft resurfaced in Federation space after being expelled from the temporal distortion. The small vessel was experiencing cascading systems failures and a potential warp core breach. Desperate, Pierce attempted to beam out to any nearby world, ship, or space station. Unfortunately, a bulkhead rupture knocked him unconscious, and his precious cargo was compromised, spraying him with bio-mimetic gel enzyme chemicals as he lay sprawled on the deck.

Drifting within range of Starbase 82, the transporter officers initially struggled to beam Pierce off the shuttle due to interference from the rapidly deteriorating craft. However, given the shuttle’s old design, they managed to access the onboard transporter systems remotely and locked onto Pierce, saving him just before the shuttle exploded.

Due to a pattern buffer malfunction and the compound covering him, the bio-filters were off, and the enzyme mutated his chromosomes, leading to a change in his cellular structure mid-transport. Pierce found himself combined with the plant’s enzyme and bio-mimetic gel, forming a new individual. It was theorized that this transformation was possible because, during transport, Pierce’s DNA and proteins were in a state of molecular flux. If an enzyme causing symbiogenesis interacted with DNA while in the matter stream, their patterns might merge. Symbiogenesis is a rare reproductive process where organisms merge with a second species to create a hybrid. The bio-mimetic gel and enzymes reacted with Pierce’s microcellular state, combining their DNA. The enzyme contained elements found in many plants, including chloroplasts, lysosomal enzymes, and cytoplasmic proteins.

As a result, only one pattern, the combined one, rematerialized on Starbase 82. The biochemical analysis of a symbiogenetic plant from the colony contributed to this outcome. The combination was successful, and while Pierce’s chromosomal layout was entirely changed, it resulted in his body being inadvertently converted to a female version of himself due to the plant’s female chromosomes.

Pierce experienced no ill effects physically or mentally. Although his genetics were almost identical, his male body was lost forever, with no prior transporter pattern on file in the modern era of Starfleet databases. His personality and memories remained unchanged, and James decided to accept his fate, adopting the name Jessica Alana Pierce—going by Alana or Al for short.

Bodily Changes

Transporter Accident

Upon her awakening in the sickbay on Starbase 82, the Science Department conducted weeks of rigorous tests to determine the cause of the issue during transport. Despite their efforts, the medical staff was baffled, and it became apparent that Pierce would have to live as a woman for the rest of her life. As she began to regain her mobility and was reactivated for duty with a new profile in the Starfleet databanks, she expressed a strong desire to continue her career. She embarked on a journey of re-acclimation and reeducation to the 24th Century, bringing with her unique insights from the past century. Due to her unfamiliarity with current-century policies and technology, she was demoted to Lieutenant, with the mutual understanding that she would acclimate to the updated regulations and protocols sooner rather than later.

Over the course of the following year, Pierce developed a close friendship with Rear Admiral Joseph Nerva Anderson of Starfleet Intelligence and other officers on the starbase. However, she yearned for more hands-on and fieldwork experiences rather than being confined to a starbase. At the beginning of 2381, she was awarded the Starfleet Extended Tour Ribbon for her decision to remain in the ranks and rededicate her life to Starfleet. Shortly after this recommitment, Pierce requested to be placed on assignments that were considered nearly impossible to win. Anderson assigned Pierce and other officers to intelligence-gathering recon missions throughout the Federation. During one such mission, Pierce uncovered numerous unorthodox movements and stationing of personnel and flag officers. She intercepted a transmission and relayed it to Anderson on a secure channel, providing details about the Theurgy’s whereabouts and evidence of Starfleet Command’s infiltration.

With her new appearance, Pierce was able to devise methods of infiltrating compounds that she had been unable to pursue as a male. During one particular data-gathering assignment, she discovered that the thalaron bombs were not isolated attacks but part of an orchestrated chess game, making each faction a pawn to eliminate one another. She concluded that this strategy would allow the infested an easier path to taking over the galaxy. Additionally, there were rumblings of a coup in the Klingon Empire aimed at overthrowing Chancellor Martok. Pierce transmitted the data up the chain to Admiral Anderson, including intel from Captain Ives about a bomb going off in the Spearhead Lounge on the USS Theurgy. She believed that these incidents, though seemingly unconnected, were part of a multi-front distraction to prevent each team from succeeding.

A New Chapter

Admiral Anderson, recognizing Pierce’s unique background and her craving for dangerous assignments, tasked her with uncovering the conspirators within the Klingon Empire who sought to overthrow Chancellor Martok, as well as identifying those responsible for the bombing on the Theurgy. Given the Theurgy’s shortage of available crew, Anderson believed that Pierce’s talents would be invaluable to the ship’s Intelligence Department in unraveling the intricate plots behind these acts of destruction.

Pierce was dispatched to Qo’nos aboard the Daqchov to rendezvous with the Theurgy, which had been attacked and left adrift near a star. An away team consisting of Lt. Izavid, Lt. Lance, and Lt. Veradin arrived at the Daqchov and successfully retrieved Pierce and the remaining Klingon officers. However, Pierce remained guarded and secretive, arousing suspicion among both the Klingons and the crew. She awaited her eventual arrival on the Theurgy with the intention of speaking with Captain Ives or her new Department Head before fully integrating into their mission.

Following the Battle of the Houses, Alana served aboard the Theurgy as the Assistant Chief Intelligence Officer. When Lieutenant Commander Andrew Fisher was killed in action, she succeeded him as the ship’s Chief Intelligence Officer. Recognizing her exceptional skills and dedication, Captain Ives granted her a field promotion to Lieutenant Commander, reinstating her former rank.

Personality Profile

ALANA-PIERCE-03.png

Pierce was a highly intelligent, tactically minded Starfleet Intelligence officer. She learned surprisingly quickly how to conclude on particular situations, so she could be slightly arrogant. Due to her perceived intelligence, and knowledge of the past, she held a fierce distrust of Klingons due to the time period she came from. With her newfound appearance, she used it to her advantage. While she used to be a ladies’ man, it's left her with a conundrum of re-evaluating her personal interests due to her present condition.

While she was originally male, it created a situation where she had to deal with learning the ins and outs of not only the 24th Century but being female instead. With knowing things of the past that could help in the modern-day, and the frustration she had with her current situation, she had to just come to terms with it. Overcome with the loss of her era, her old body, and the state of the once-proud Starfleet in this era, she adopted a mission-first attitude. Everyone she knew being dead now left her a loner of sorts, but trust in the structure of Command and camaraderie.

Due to her time period, and before Kirk's epic standoff at Camp Khitomer, Pierce had a difficult time trusting and wanted to be even near Klingons because of the events that landed her in the 24th Century. She would essentially be suspicious of any interactions with the Klingons despite some good workings with them. Not trusting the Klingons led her to investigate them more thoroughly whenever they're part of the strategy or mission at hand.

Physical Profile

After Pierce gained her female form, she had a decidedly beautiful body from the accident. She had flowing red hair and a strong athletic build bordering on model-like. She had a remarkable bust at 34E, and a swimsuit body to die for. Pierce’s situation allowed her to dress up, and play multiple parts in espionage missions due to her good looks and sultry displays. Her voice was sexy and slightly southern in tone. She had no tattoos or body piercings.

Special Notes

Although capable of Commanding a Starship, she preferred to follow in the steps of Spock and Riker in learning as much as possible with capable leaders, hence either being sidestepped for command opportunities or not accepting them unless as a temporary status. Her status of being from the 23rd century would be either shrouded in secrecy per Anderson or due to herself not wanting it disclosed unless to a trusted friend. Her records of events have been sealed up and fabricated for recent events for the official record.

Also, due to her recent change, she tended to inadvertently watch her figure more and eat more of a plant-based meal plan. Although she was more than capable of devouring a nice steak dinner on occasion too.
