The USS Sovereign was a 24th century Federation Sovereign class starship operated by Starfleet. It was the prototype of its class.
Doctor Lucan cin Nicander served aboard the Sovereign as a medical officer from the time he left Starfleet Medical in 2376 to the time he was assigned to the USS Theurgy in 2378.
After the USS Theurgy discovered the conspiracy that compromised Starfleet and fled Federation space, the Sovereign was selected to be part of Task Force Archeron and ordered to hunt down and destroy the errant carrier.
In March of 2381 the Sovereign was disabled by Lieutenant Commander Carrigan Trent's "Soup Sandwich" virus.
