USS Sovereign

The USS Sovereign was a 24th century Federation Sovereign class starship operated by Starfleet. It was the prototype of its class.
Doctor Lucan cin Nicander served aboard the Sovereign as a medical officer from the time he left Starfleet Medical in 2376 to the time he was assigned to the USS Theurgy in 2378.
Late in 2380, the Sovereign participated in a Anti-Piracy Operation in joint cooperation with another Federation Ship, the USS Theurgy. During the operation the captain of the Sovereign hoping that his pilots could learn something from an experienced Tactical CONN pilot placed USS Theurgy pilot Soo Young Seung in command of three pilots fresh from Starfleet Academy that had been assigned to the ship. His intel led him to believe that the operation would be simple in that the pirates would surrender in the face of two Federation Starfleet starships. However this was not the case as the pirates, who according to intel were supposed to be lightly armed and passive, turned out to be very well armed and extremely aggressive. During the operation, the USS Sovereign sustained heavy damage but thanks to the efforts of the Theurgy and the experienced pilots of the Lone Wolves Squadron, the Sovereign survived the pirate assault and was able to limp home under its own power.
The Sovereign returned to Earth in November of 2380, escorted by the Theurgy that had to flee Federation space once Captain Jien Ives discovered the truth about Starfleet Command. Whether the officers and crew of the Sovereign also discovered the truth has not been revealed.
