The USS Babylon was a 24th century Federation Galaxy class starship operated by Starfleet.
When the Galaxy class was first commissioned, six Galaxys were constructed during the 2350s and 2360s and six keels were laid in case Starfleet needed more. After the Battle of Wolfe 359 the second set of Galaxys were constructed including the USS Babylon.
Marcus Alexander Slayton served aboard the USS Babylon as her chief tactical officer and second officer from 2372 until 2375. He was promoted from lieutenant (senior grade) to lieutenant commander while serving aboard the Babylon. During this time, Captain Jonah Metis was the commanding officer. Marcus Slayton was briefly replaced at the beginning of the 2375 before returning to the Babylon for the rest of the war.
The Babylon fared the Federation/Cardassian war with the Klingons without incident but during the Dominion War the ship was a part of some of the heaviest fighting in the war. The Babylon began the war as part of the Seventh Fleet a battle against the Jem'Hadar in the Tyra sector decimated the fleet, leaving the Babylon as one of fourteen ships to survive. Afterwards the Babylon faced another round of heavy fighting in the Sybaron sector before taking part in both Operation Return and the First Battle of Chin'Toka.
During this time Marcus Slayton was forced to head two departments when the Babylon’s Chief Security Officer was killed during the heavy fighting in Sybaron.
