The USS Intrepid (NCC-74600) was a 24th century Federation Intrepid-class starship operated by Starfleet. It served as the prototype of the class and was the third Federation Starfleet vessel to bear the name.

In 2370, the Intrepid’s commanding officer was Captain Anders. That year Commander Donald Kaplan, the ship's chief engineer, regularly engaged in power conversion efficiency contests with Geordi La Forge, chief engineer of the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Force of Nature")

The Intrepid was the first assignment for Ensign Zephyr Praise after her graduation from Starfleet Academy in 2370. She served aboard the Intrepid for a year before transferring to the USS Calvary in 2371 after the ship suffered an unfortunate confrontation with the Letheans who used Ensign Praise's empathic abilities to attack her telepathically.

In 2374, 21 year old Emelia 'Blue' Marguerite Tiran graduated from Starfleet Academy and served aboard the Intrepid with the rank of ensign before transferring to the USS Yeager in 2375. During that time, she served in the operations department although she really didn't feel that she belonged there.

In 2379, the Intrepid was in Star Fleet Battle Group Omega, deployed in sector 1045 to counter the Reman threat. ( Star Trek Nemesis)

(This ship should not be confused with the Constitution class starship that was destroyed in 2368 or the starship that responded to the Romulan attack on Khitomer in 2346.)
