LCARS Database Report - USS Theurgy NX-79854
- The 7th of March, Stardate 57547.63. While the Theurgy conducted repairs in the Azure Nebula, she was intercepted by the Asurians that sought vengeance for the defeat at Starbase 84. Yet they weren't alone, since they brought reinforcements in the form of the Versant, a dreadnought of which the likes had never been seen before in the Alpha Quadrant. It was an advanced ship that belonged to the mysterious Savi, and following their Code, they abducted Captain Ives and several others of the Theurgy crew. Before he was beamed off the bridge, Captain Ives gave the order to initiate the Continuance Protocol. It meant that the Theurgy was to split up into its three different Vectors and retreat in different directions in order to escape. It was a last measure against a threat that couldn't be overcome, and it was issued in order to keep the truth about Starfleet Command from being lost. The Sabine returned from its mission in the midst of this battle, and with the dilithium crystals delivered in the nick of time, the Thea's three hulls escaped from the battlefield.
- During this battle, in sickbay, a stray phaser beam hit Doctor Nicander in the side of his torso, but when he didn't die, his true nature was finally revealed. Nicander had been one of the Infested all along, hiding in plain sight. A battle ensued, during which he was finally subdued and incarcerated in the brig. The discovery of the Chief Medical Officer being one of the enemy called a lot of things that had happened to the Theurgy into question, the predominant belief being that Nicander had been responsible for a lot of misfortune that the crew had suffered. The truth was not so simple, however, since according to the Doctor, he had reclaimed his sanity at Starbase 84, being severed from the influence of the parasite inside him up until the point where the phaser beam hit him, and the parasite took over in order to keep the host body alive. Over the days to come, Nicander would try to demonstrate his loyalty to the mission by aiding the crew at many turns, but the collective hatred towards the enemy would not so easily be forgotten.
- Over the course of the following days, various actors and conflicts had begun to concentrate on the Azure Nebula. Task Force Archeron had entered the nebula in the wake of the Battle of Starbase 84, splitting up in search for the Theurgy, and also reaching out to the Klingon Empire. Admiral Sankolov convinced Chancellor Martok that the Theurgy was responsible for the death of his son at the Coreless Moon. Most crucial, however, was the initiation of a third invasion of the Alpha Quadrant by the Borg Collective.
- Following the failures of their first two invasions of the Federation, and significant losses during conflicts with Species 8472 and the USS Voyager, the Borg were forced to resort to unconventional means to reach the Alpha Quadrant. Thus, in early 2381, two Borg cubes discovered a subspace aperture within Borg space that led to the Azure Nebula. The cubes promptly used the 50,000 lightyear shortcut and emerged in the Alpha Quadrant, swiftly moving to reconnoiter the sector, while the Collective amassed a large armada on the other end of the subspace tunnel. The invasion had begun, and the Borg Queen entered the Azure Nebula on a Tactical Cube ahead of the invading force - joining the two scouting cubes in Federation Space.
- It hadn't taken long before the Borg vanguard encountered resistance. One cube had engaged and destroyed a Federation starship, the USS Endeavour. The other cube had found and engaged the USS Cayuga, inflicting heavy damage and forcing the crippled Federation vessel to flee into the Azure Nebula. Still, Borg jamming prevented either the Endeavour or the Cayuga from warning the Federation of the threat. However, good fortune ensured that the Cayuga’s distress call was answered by a vector of the renegade USS Theurgy, which rendered assistance and spread the word of the Borg threat.
- Meanwhile, the third Borg vessel of the vanguard - the Tactical Cube that carried the Borg Queen - was discovered by eleven Starfleet ships from Task Force Archeron whilst they hunted for the Theurgy. The ensuing battle would prove to be savage. All eleven starships were lost, with all their crews either killed or assimilated, but against all odds, the Starfleet force did succeed in destroying the Borg cube. Their sacrifice, at the cost of nearly four thousand lives, would prove crucial. Shortly after the battle, the other two Borg cubes reached the debris field of the battle, and initiated the Royal Protocol - using a female drone to create the new Borg Queen.
- At the same time, after enacting the Continuance Protocol, the USS Theurgy was locked in a battle for survival on separate fronts. The saucer section faced the other half of Task Force Archeron, the middle section encountered the IKC Rotarran and Chancellor Martok, while the stardrive section faced the surviving remnants of the Asurian forces.
