The Draconis Outback was a region of space in the galaxy's Alpha Quadrant.
History and specifics
The Draconis Outback was located in a large wedge of space between the Federation and the coreward parts of the Bajor Sector and Ferengi space, not too far from Tzenkethi space. The Outback was sparsely settled by colonists, researchers, and prospectors. It held allegiance to none of the major Alpha Quadrant powers. Free traders, merchants, and smugglers made a good living there, supplying goods and "services" to the scattered settlements and outposts. It was a rough and tumble place where more than one wanted man had decided to hide out, and where even peaceful folk tended to keep their phasers close at hand.
The Orion pirate Bardeck Gorales fled here following the conclusion of the Klingon Civil War.
It contains the Altanis Idrilon system, where Bardek found an abandoned Klingon space station and transformed it into Gorkon's Retreat, a pirate haven. (Decipher RPG module: Narrator's Guide; Last Unicorn RPG module: Raiders, Renegades & Rogues)
