Lya Station Alpha was a Federation Orunal-class space station in service with Starfleet in the mid and late 24th century. This station orbited Lya III, the inhabited third planet in its star system. This system, in Sector 30/489, was located near the Giles Belt and the Nel Bato system.
In 2368, the USS Enterprise-D traveled to Lya Station Alpha with survivors from the attack on the Solarion IV colony. (TNG: "Ensign Ro")
Gimli Luff of Tellar spent five years of his life at Lya Station Alpha and was familiar with the systems of an Orunal-class station. This led to his selection for the infiltration mission at Starbase 84 in March of 2381.
Lya Station Alpha was the first post of enlisted specialist Mathew Johnson, who had enlisted in Starfleet after the Dominion took Betazed. He spent the year of 2375 at Lya Station Alpha as a reactor technician before transferring to Deep Space 5 when the war was over.
(According to the Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 47) and the Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), the Lya system was located in the Alpha Quadrant. It was a binary system of two A-class stars. Lya Station Alpha was located in this system.)
