The USS New Jersey was a 24th century Federation Ambassador class starship operated by Starfleet.
In 2362, eighteen year old Miko Kuni Hayakawa stowed away aboard the USS New Jersey where she met Karen Dauntless, the youngest medical officer who convinced her chief medical officer to keep Hayakawa around and educate her so that she could help out in sick bay. Miko Hayakawa left to enroll in Starfleet Academy and Karen Dauntless transferred to the USS Renaissance.
In 2373, Winter Kestra Bannin and Lydda Davis had their cadet cruises aboard the New Jersey. Cadet Bannin was assigned to security while Cadet Davis was assigned to engineering. Both passed with the rank of ensign and went on to serve aboard the New Jersey during the Dominion War.
During the Dominion War, the New Jersey was part of the Seventh Fleet and was commanded by Captain Kalmus of Vulcan. He commanded the New Jersey through several battles including the Battle of Tyra in 2374 and the Kalandra Campaign of 2375 when a hit to Engineering resulted in the death of Lydda Davis.
At the end of the war Winter Bannin took personal leave. When she returned to duty, she did not return to the New Jersey.
