The USS Orcus (NX-88770) was a Federation starship of the Vesta-class line that was active in the latter years of the 24th century. The Orcus was the first ship in a sub-variant carrier of the Vesta-class, the Orcus-class, with twenty prototype Valravn-fighters aboard. The vessel and its crew served Starfleet Command during the events of the parasite invasion and it was under the command of Captain Marcus Alexander Slayton.
The USS Orcus was supposed to join Task Force Archeron and hunt down the USS Theurgy. In late February of 2381, the USS Orcus found the task force adrift, orbiting Theta Eridani IV without means of communication or propulsion. They had been affected by a computer virus, and it was only with the help of the USS Orcus "clean" software that the entire task force could exit orbit and take up the hunt again. Task Force Archeron immediately set a course towards Starbase 84 - meaning to intercept the USS Theurgy if Captain Jien Ives had decided to put the advanced Theurgy-class starship of in his supposed Romulan masters' hands.

Production History
The Vesta-class was type of Federation Starfleet starship in service from the year 2380. The class was designated as a multi-mission explorer and was a test-bed for a number of experimental technologies. As of March 2381 there were eight vessels of the class in service, and a ninth one being the carrier version named the Orcus-class.
In addition to the experimental systems the class was otherwise top of the line, just like the Vesta-class, and able to achieve a maximum warp factor of nine-point-nine-eight. The class had the same top-of-the-line sensors as the Luna-class. The Vesta-class held a crew of seven-hundred-and-fifty, with an emergency capacity of three-and-a-half-thousand. The class could also hold up to twenty-four-thousand metric tons of cargo. The class' weapons systems included two experimental Mk XII phaser cannons and a complement of quantum torpedoes.
Ships of the class had twenty available transporter sites, including four cargo transporters and six emergency evacuation transporters. The ships' main shuttle bay was located on deck twelve. Behind the shuttle bay was a large Fighter Assault Bay. The first 20 AC-477 Mk I Valravn fighters were commissioned to the USS Orcus for field testing, denominated the White Wolves Squadron.
With the exception of the class' namesake and the Orcus sub-variant, Vesta-class ships were each named for one of the seven hills of Rome, located east of the river Tiber, and which form the geographical heart of Rome, within the walls of the ancient city. (Five of the hills have had their names assigned to starships; only Caelian and Palatine have yet to be used.) The USS Vesta itself is named after the virgin goddess of the hearth, home, and family in Roman religion. Partial Source: Memory Beta
