In the aftermath of what happened at the Black Opal, Yukimura learned the truth of the alien parasites compromising Starfleet Command and joined the Theurgy’s crew compliment as Commander Carrigan Trent's dedicated Electronic Warfare Officer.

After the Theurgy hid in the Azure Nebula for almost three days, Yukimura served as the Tactical Officer on Vector 3, under the command of Lieutenant Commander Natalie Stark, the Commanding Officer and acting Captain of the Stallion.

Biography

Masuda and his family (parents, 2 older brothers, 1 younger sister) lived on the Federation Colony of New Providence on the planet Jouret IV. His brothers were both farmers and stayed working the land, but Masuda had his sights on the stars and applied to Starfleet Academy. He was accepted at the age of eighteen in 2364. Up until then, he had been a student of the martial arts, which he was able to continue to practice at the Academy.

Two years into his course, he was doing well. He was not a natural student, but worked hard and applied himself. He was quiet student, but while he was there discovered several things about himself that may have been dormant should he have remained on Jouret IV.

In 2366, Masuda specialised in Tactical and was progressing well. His obsessive working out with Brees had resulted in him piling on muscle, so he was stronger than most of his colleagues. As a result, he did well in the physical challenges. Although big, he was a fast mover, so made a good hand to hand combatant. At the Academy furlough, Masuda went to visit his family – a decision which changed his life forever as that meant he was at New Providence when the Borg attacked.

New Providence was primarily an agricultural colony and so was totally unable to defend itself. Masuda’s obsession with working out saved him. He had started doing a long run each day with a pack full of stones in order to keep his strength and stamina up. He was five miles away when the Borg destroyed the colony. Luckily he had no technology on him at the time, so they did not detect him and by the time he got back, the colony was nothing but a hole in the ground and the Borg cube was gone. Masuda was left with nothing – everything was wiped out. In order to survive, Masuda knew he would have to contact the Federation. There was an old abandoned survey centre 250 miles away that he thought would probably have communications equipment in it, so he put together a pack and started walking. The trip took him nearly two weeks, and while he was away from the colony, the Enterprise made its visit, unaware that a sole survivor was making his own trek for survival. The Masuda Yukimura that contacted Starfleet three weeks later was a darker man – leaner, more self sufficient and burning with a desire for revenge.

Masuda seriously considered not returning to Starfleet. His family (like everyone else in the colony) were assumed to be dead – though he knew they may have been assimilated. After a year he returned to the Academy and changed his elective to Science. He worked incredibly hard – especially in areas to do with prosthetics, tissue regeneration and mental re-programming. His obsession with the Borg took precedence in his mind over his duties as an officer, however, and he received a series of negative reports. After two years, he was convinced to transfer back to Tactical.

The years passed, and he served on a couple of ships in the fleet, but he had some trouble with the transition back to the defence of a starship, so when a position for a Executive Officer & Tactical Officer on the Black Opal came up, his Captain recommended him for it as he felt it would suit his temperament.

At the end of February in 2381, the Theurgy came to the Black Opal. Yukimura quickly advocated surrender once the Theurgy’s boarding parties beamed aboard. He was against using the explosives in Black Opal’s main storage hall to destroy classified technology and data fearing a potential chain reaction the explosions could detonate ordinance or damage life support. Black Opal’s commanding officer, Lieutenant Commander Jennifer Dewitt silenced his protests by rendering him unconscious with a blow to the jaw. He was later restrained by Security Specialist Rivard and evacuated to the Theurgy after Black Opal was briefly boarded by the Romulans.

In the aftermath of what happened at the Black Opal, Yukimura learned the truth of the alien parasites compromising Starfleet Command and joined the Theurgy’s crew compliment as Commander Carrigan Trent's dedicated Electronic Warfare Officer. He served on the Main Bridge of the Theurgy during the Battle of Starbase 84, managing the jamming signal that permeated the entire battlefield around the base and forced most non-Theurgy allied crafts to rely on manual targeting.

After the Theurgy hid in the Azure Nebula for almost three days, Yukimura served as the Tactical Officer on Vector 3, under the command of Lieutenant Commander Natalie Stark, the Commanding Officer and Captain of the Stallion.

Personality Profile

Described as a soft spoken yet still commanding man, he was far less intimating than his commanding officer Jennifer Dewitt, but to her lasting chagrin, his word was taken a bit more seriously by the personnel at Black Opal. Masuda used to be genial and friendly with a lot of what his fellow students described as “farmer charm”. His ordeal on Jouret IV changed that and he returned to his studies a far more serious individual. He threw himself into his studies and the formerly poor student found his grades rising due solely to his focus on them. His social life changed as well. He no longer sought romance or fun, instead he went looking for release. His obsession with the Borg was one which he realised would make others view him differently, so he became a control freak – private and obsessed with routine. This made him a good Tactical Officer as he imposed strict routines and regimens on his subordinates. This also controlled his martial arts training which he does obsessively every day.

In his spare time, he continued his studies on the Borg and methods of reversing assimilation. Masuda fragments of free time were spent researching current theories and he was in contact with a wide range of medical specialists, robotics engineers and professional interrogators across the Alpha Quadrant. He had also got in contact with Seven of Nine and gained valuable perspective from her.

It was because of these studies that Carrigan Trent chose him as Electronic Warfare Officer before the Battle of Starbase 84.

Physical Profile

Being fairly short because of his Asian heritage, Masuda was still a lean man with good body control in thanks to his martial arts practice. He had no tattoos or scars of significance, but his quietude might make him seem imposing despite his diminutive stature.
