Starbase 87 was a Federation starbase facility in operation in the 24th century. Following the USS Enterprise-D's successful rescue of passengers and crew of the Prospector in 2368, Captain Jean-Luc Picard considered contacting Starbase 87 and requesting a tug be dispatched to take the Prospector in tow. Starbase 87 was the intended destination following the Enterprise-D's departure from Boraal II in 2370. (TNG episode: "Homeward")
