Doctor Ayden Tyre was Chief Medical Officer on the USS Endeavour. When the Endeavour was destroyed by the Borg, Tyre escaped on the USS Niger, and would eventually defect to the USS Theurgy. Tyre aided in the opposition against the parasites that compromised Starfleet Command in the end of the 24th century.

Biography

Born in San Francisco as an only child to Betazoid parents, Ayden Tyre received all the attention a child could want from their parents growing up. Atol and Niri Tyre had both emigrated to Earth to pursue medical research careers as civilians with Starfleet Medical and did all they could to assimilate and make it easy for their son to grow up as a child of two cultures.

It was simple for Ayden to blend in with his peers at first. When he reached adolescence, as happens to almost all Betazoids, he began to develop his telepathic and empathic abilities. Though he experienced some rifts with his friends over this at first, everything eventually returned to normal. However, this is when he really started to notice the difference in how non-telepathic species differ from telepaths. Reading someone's surface emotions was as easy to him as seeing or smelling, and yet he had to often ignore or block out that sense in order not to offend his friends, peers, and educators.

In his high school, Miramonte High in San Francisco, Ayden became heavily involved in athletics. He developed a love for soccer and made varsity his junior and senior years, competing in and winning a number of tournaments. Dancing also became a hobby of his, providing him with a physical outlet when soccer was in the off season. He would get into ballroom, modern, salsa, enjoying really any style he tried.

Throughout his life, Ayden's parents worked to instill in him their love for medicine and science, hoping he would eventually become a doctor and join the family legacy. Hesitant, at first, Ayden agreed to enroll in advanced placement courses in Chemistry and Biology and found that he not only excelled but truly enjoyed the subject matter. He did a summer internship with his parents at Starfleet Medical and witnessed the power of helping to save lives, and he knew he'd found his calling. He eventually enrolled in Starfleet Academy in the Medical program, receiving his acceptance before even graduating high school.

While at the Academy, one of his Betazoid instructors noticed he had profound skill and aptitude in Telepathy, Empathy, and the technique known as screening. Ayden had always considered these to be second nature, as being one of the few telepaths around a lot of humans, he had needed to learn how to shut out the thoughts of others out of respect and sometimes outright sanity. His professor gave him private lessons in furthering these skills. While many members of his race remain more skilled in these areas, his talent exceeds that of your average Betazoid.

Ayden was in the Academy during a very difficult time for the Federation, namely the Dominion War which ran almost its entire course during his time there. Being at war changed the feelings of his classmates, instructors, and the curriculum. All their classes had a focus on the war which bothered Ayden, who always felt himself defaulting to non-violence whenever possible. Even while watching news reports of the Battle of Betazed and the Dominion's occupation there, knowing extended family that were lost, all he could think about was that he wished he could be there to help tend to the wounded. He was grateful that the war ended before his graduation and first placement.

Ayden's parents did not strictly follow Betazoid customs when it came to marriage for Ayden. They chose not to arrange a marriage for their son, both believing he should find his own love. During his first year at the academy, he found someone who would become dear to his heart. a human named Aaron. Aaron was another medical student at the academy. They grew incredibly close. The notion of marriage was tossed around quite a bit in their two years together. Their love became so deep that the psychic bond between a Betazoid and their imzadi had begun to form between them.

Unfortunately, tragedy struck two weeks before the end of their third year at the Academy. On route to a field expedition, Aaron's team suffered a freak accident. The shuttle crashed, killing everyone on board. Ayden couldn't cope at first. He closed in on himself, barely even doing his coursework and attending classes. He considered dropping out but knew that Aaron would have wanted him to graduate and not throw away all his hard work. Eventually he forced himself to focus on his education again, but he would remain socially closed off for a long time to come. Over the next few years, recoiling from the loss, he engaged in many superficial relationships, rapidly going from one to the next. He embraced the stereotypically sensual side of his race and using it as a shield to his true emotions, never allowing anyone to get close to his heart.

At the end of five years, Ayden graduated with high marks as an officer and medical doctor, having finished a one-year residency at Starfleet Medical Academy. He was offered a position at Starfleet Medical, likely due to connections from his parents, but for his first post as an Ensign, he requested a border patrol assignment, where he would have the opportunity to work with other species and live life on the edge of Federation space, to really cut his teeth with emergency medicine, and distance himself from the painful memories of Aaron. Getting what he wanted, Ayden received his first posting on the USS Artemis, an Akira-class ship. Due to their role as a border patrol vessel, the Artemis saw its share of action with pirates, alien anomalies, and other situations that put Ayden through a trial by fire in his medical duties, just as he wanted.

Through his service on the Artemis, Ayden grew in many ways, and not only as a doctor and Starfleet officer but as an individual. In developing friendships with the crew, he eventually began to work through his grief over losing Aaron. While there would always be a place in his heart for Aaron, he began to move on with his personal relationships. However, he still treated his romantic relationships in the same way he had been since Aaron's death, none of them getting much past the emotional surface.

Three years into his service on the Artemis, Ayden received a promotion to Lieutenant, Junior Grade which would last him another two years, bringing his time on the Artemis to five incredible years of growth and experience.

Ayden's time aboard the Artemis came to an end when he received a promotion to full Lieutenant and transfer orders to be the Chief Medical Officer aboard the USS Endeavour. Ayden was completely shocked to receive the orders, unsure if he was ready to lead his own department but knew that his superiors had to have their reasons. The next year was another period of challenge and growth for Ayden as he learned to direct others in a crisis and organize and run an entire sickbay. He began to grow close to many of his shipmates and had a ton of respect for Captain Amasov who was someone Ayden knew he could go to for advice as a new department head.

Unfortunately, his time aboard the Endeavour would be cut short at just one year thanks to the Borg, which led to a chain of events of he and few other members of the crew escaping aboard a Runabout, the USS Niger, lost in the Azure Nebula.

Personality Profile

On the surface, Ayden is very warm and outgoing. He gets along with others very easily and often finds himself easily getting close to those around him. He's funny, and prides himself on a good 'bedside manner,' but doesn't hesitate to set his patients straight if they are causing themselves unneeded harm. As a Betazoid and a telepath, he's very honest and straightforward. He was raised in a telepathic household and never developed or truly understood the human habit of telling white lies to ease someone's feelings. That can sometimes lead to awkward situations, but he's learned to navigate it better throughout his life.

He has made great strides in the relationship department since working through his grief over losing Aaron. He's once again very confident and forward, if sometimes too much so. He's very interested in developing new relationships but has grown accustomed to short lived and casual ones, at least when it comes to romantic relationships. He excels at making new friends.

Physical Profile

Ayden stands at 6'3" with a lean and muscled build of 200 lbs. He has the body and grace of a soccer player and dancer, two hobbies which he has spent years dedicating himself to and continues to do so, which has allowed him to keep his physique without too much effort.

His eyes are solid black, just like all Betazoids and he has shortly cropped light brown hair.

Ayden, though in good shape, lacks in self-defense ability. He has rarely found himself in a fight, his warm demeanor and telepathy allowing him to defuse most tense situations. While he has Starfleet combat training, he never did all that well in those classes and only put in enough effort to pass at bare minimums.

Special Notes

As a Betazoid, Ayden has full telepathic and empathic abilities, as well as the ability to screen out the thoughts, feelings, and psychic intrusions of others. He is very talented in these abilities and had special instruction during his time at Starfleet Academy to focus them.
