Life began as it always did on Trill with two people. Morya Grax met and fell in love with Rogal Sholam. Several years later, Kizra Sholam was born, and she was welcomed into the family with great joy. As their only child, she never had to share her parents with any other siblings and enjoyed the personal attention being an only child afforded.
Both of her parents were noted scientists, though Morya had elected to go into the education field while Rogal continued to research and study the field of Quantum physics. It was no wonder that their child would receive the benefits of two such well educated parents, and from a very early age, the love of math and science were encouraged in Kizra.
She, too, showed an innate aptitude as well as a keen sense of curiosity. Forever digging into the ‘why’s and ‘how’s, her constant barrage of questions, while at times seemingly unending, were none the less met with a sense of enthusiasm by her parents, if sometimes a muted one.
Kizra was placed in the standard general school population, but found herself ill at ease in the environment. Bored to tears, the child generally manifested that in irritating and unwanted behaviours. After two years of struggles, Kizra’s parents elected to find a more challenging environment for her. Thus, she was tested and finally enrolled in a school for advanced children and set upon a course that was heavy in the sciences. Finding herself finally challenged, the behaviours eventually resolved as she found herself far more interested and engaged.
Her secondary schooling was similar - she tested into a special school for the scientifically minded. There she found herself delving further into the mysteries of the universe, and it was also there that she discovered a particular love for Chemistry. The field fascinated her because it allowed a glimpse into the world beyond just what was already formed, but how it had formed. It played a role in everything and touched every aspect of life. From the behaviour of atoms to what elements in the universe shaped and formed planets, stars, life, to digging through the specifics of a strange phenomena, Chemistry opened up the universe to a deeper understanding of it all.
This interest led to her being taken under the wing of Dezrin Tos, a professor at the school, who took a particular interest in the girl. The two became close, and when she indicated an interest in applying as a host, he agreed to sponsor her, and she became one of the youngest Trill to ever apply. The Symbiosis Commission agreed that she was an ideal candidate save for one thing - her age. They indicated that she would be allowed to join with a symbiote, but only after she was a few years older. At the end of her schooling, Kizra graduated the top of her class.
Kizra’s next challenge was Starfleet Academy, a dream she had harboured for many years. Despite her educational achievements, the Academy was known to be extremely challenging, but she was determined to meet it face on. She applied, tested, and was accepted immediately. She found herself studying at the campus on Earth. Two years in, during one of the breaks, she was called back to Trill immediately - Dezrin had taken gravely ill with an incurable disease. Perhaps it was through sheer force of will that the man remained alive until her arrival, for he passed away as they were preparing for the transfer. Kizra Sholam became Kizra Tos and was the sixth host of the symbiote. At times she talked out loud with her symbiote, which sometimes caused some confusion in conversations.
Taking a couple of weeks to mourn and recover, Kizra returned to Starfleet Academy to finish out her final year. Upon her graduation, she discovered she would be assigned to the USS Theurgy which had just returned from an extended engagement at Romulus. Two days after she boarded, the Theurgy went rogue and the young Ensign found herself on one side of a war she never thought she would ever see. Whisked away in the aftermath of the defection, Kizra was uncertain of the veracity of the claims. She had little time to ponder over the matter and consider the implications when an eps exploded and she was impaled with shrapnel. Removal of the shrapnel would have only allowed enough time to save one life or the other. Rather than sacrifice either of them, Kizra Tos was put into stasis until they could properly tend to them both.
