Hi'Jak was Assistant Chief Science Officer at Starbase-84. Hi'Jak aided in the opposition against the parasites that compromised Starfleet Command in the end of the 24th century.

Biography

A half klingon born on Qo'noS Hi'Jak had a lot to prove. His entire life was filled with expectations about his path and honor, and because of his mixed heritage he was seen to be at a constant disadvantage. It wasn't helped by the fact that his looks favored his human mother, and his less pronounced forehead ridges and more demure personality won him few if any friends on his 'homeworld'. As far as his expectations of being a Klingon his father regarded him more or less with what Klingon's consider kindness, and at times his mother was more klingon in spirit then (than) his father, but he found it a loud and uncomfortable existence. While in his youth he did struggle with his temper, nowadays he has it mostly under control.

He eventually decided to move from Qo'noS to Earth so he could join Starfleet, but even there he really couldn't escape the demands of others around him. He was always the odd one out, and while in the academy he fell into the science division, though even in that he mostly coasted in his studies. While he does have a bachelors from Starfleet much to his embarrassment it's a major in Animal Psychology, with his minor in Temporal Mechanics being his excuse for working on a Starbase. Even then when he did eventually work his way up to choosing a posting he chose Starbase 84, literally the furthest point in Federation space where no one would care for or expect any kind of results from him.

In essence Jack has spent his entire life dodging the big problems, and playing skip it with life. His grades coasted on easy or overly confusing majors where he could simply fake his knowledge, and the few simulations that had him in command positions were disastrous. Failure to mandate crew, failure to maintain order, and failure to keep his lab even remotely clean there have been a number of write ups along his personel (personnel) reports that make him 'difficult to work with.' and yet when pressure is applied to him and he has no where to run his teachers and commanding officers say that his results perform above expectations.

To Hi'Jak events like the dominion war happened around him, and he mostly kept out of the way. He didn't try to concern him much with the Romulans either even as he came to work on the edge of their space. His concerns have mostly been selfish choosing to shut out the warfare side and focus on the puzzle side of things and larger questions thinking that the federation would try and maintain peace after the dominion war. However with the current activity along the neutral zone, and the Romulan civil war, Jack is noticeably agitated and worried about such events spiraling so close to them.

His workplace situation as Assistant chief Science Officer is messy. His office is a disaster, and he has had many an argument with the current Chief Science officer on Starbase 84 a human named Simon Walt, who Jack describes as having a stick eternally shoved up his posterior. Jack's position oversees a few of the labs on Starbase 84, and as a manager he is rather hands off unless a project directly interests him in which case he tends to attempt to micromanage. because of this and the fact that he is rather stubborn none of his co-workers have an amazing relationship with him in the science division.

Personality Profile

The biggest problem facing Jack is not his discontent for authority or even his halfbreed status it is in fact much simpler than that. Hi'jak has a failure with commitment. When running is no longer an option he will face a problem and even achieves better than expected results, but his intellect can be a waste without rigid deadlines. Were it a simple failure to manage time than this problem would be less rooted, and Hi'Jak would become one of the science divisions most promising members however his problem can be seen in all of his activities and not just his work.

In his relationships Hi'jak is likely to run. Pinning down one date or night with the man is easy enough, keeping him however is much more difficult. His commitment to people lacks fervor, and he is known to get cold feet in certain situations. He is awkward for many reasons, but this is among the top, as he can easily shrink away from it and avoid the person he is in a relationship with. He is especially uncomfortable with Klingon women.*

  • Counselors note: While Jack was born on Qo'noS he does not seem to hold traditions or honor in high regard. His discomfort with Klingon Women seem stem from his first sexual encounter in a Klingon mating ritual that ended with him receiving two broken ribs, carpet burns, and a pulled calf muscle.

There is little doubt that Hi'Jak is intelligent, his minor in Temporal Mechanics and his analytical mindset are all assets to the science division. However current opportunities for command positions have been denied to him due to his lack of overall commitment. While he does have the mind and skills for Starfleet duties, he lacks the overall spirit for leadership, and requires a push to get results.

Physical Profile

Half-klingon genetics are a staple in his physiology, everything from the curves of his forhead ridges less pronounced than a regular klingons. He also has three lungs, and improved physical endurance, strength etc.
