[Cadet Hi'Jak | Admiral Brand's office, 2377 | Holy crap what did I do? ]
Hi'Jak had never been a trouble maker, if anything he tried his best to never stick out. He had a lot of reasons why he didn't want to stick out, it was a bad idea. His half Klingon nature had made him a bit of a symbol for mockery, and he didn't really want to be known as anything more than a good student. So his suprise when he had been called to the admiral's office was absolute. He had been invited into the room, told to take a seat, and was now sitting across from the chief supper intendant of the entire Academy.
This was his graduating year. He was almost ready to apply for his official posting, he had narrowed it down to a deep space stations, places where the real exciting fringe sciences took place, he didn't really want a ship posting Despite his masters Thesis being on a new type of warp drive. The admiral sat waiting for something, she was reading something Jack wasn't sure what it was, her computer wasn't turned towards him, he was trying his best not to fidget.
There was a buzz at the door, and two more men walked in. These two didn't have the usual uniform of Starfleet. They wore solid black clothing. The admiral finally spoke. "Hi'Jak these two are Delmur, and Lucsley they are from the office of temporal investigations, they have some questions about your masters paper."
"We would like to know how you came up with this." They put a copy of Jack's paper towards him, the areas indicated highlighted a few of the mathematics he had done for stabilization of a theoretical transwarp wormhole.
"I.." Jack's voice cracked his throat was suddenly very dry, and none of them had offered him any water. "I..."
Admiral Brand spoke up. "Your proffessor passed on the paper to me, and I then passed it on to them, see there are some parts of this that seem a little outside of the scope of a cadet."
"You've been studying quantum and temporal mechanics here so you are of course familiar with the temporal prime directive?"
Jack felt his hand go a touch numb. Gods he felt like he was going to die. "Uhm, Tell your experiences to no one?"
"Hi'Jak I'm going to put this bluntly, we aren't sure how but we think you plagiarized this work. You're masters thesis is going to be pulled from the public record, your diploma will be suspended."
Jack bulked for a moment, his work on temporal mechanics had been his primary goal, his papers his work, he had wanted to aim for a top research station, and without it all he had left was...
"You of course have the credits to continue with a masters in Animal Husbandry, but the board has seen fit to deny your acrediation in Temporal Mechanics, we will grant you only enough credits to graduate."
He had taken that to be an easy A, most of it was biology, and anthropology of pre-warp civilzation's, a few courses in the study of reproductive habbits, things he had done to kill time, and now that was his entire reputation. He opened his mouth, wanting to protest, but Brand cut him off. "We are allowing you to stay because you have no prior incidents on record, but normally a violation this grand would warrant expulsion from the academy. I fought for you to have this chance, please do not throw away my good judgement."
Without his major, the most he would ever hope for was a boarder post, he could of course go ship side, but he wouldn't get a designated science ship, maybe maybe if he was lucky he would get aboard an Obirth, but with a mark like plagiarism his career was over before it even started.
Any information he would have been able to pass off to the empire was gone in a puff of smoke, he was usueless. "Thank you admiral. I am... sorry."
and with that he was dismissed, pushed out the door without a word. His paper destroyed, and with no reputation to salvage, he had his masters, but he would never get a good research posting. He was defeated.
