Challenger was an NX-class starship of Earth's Starfleet in the mid 22nd century. The vessel was the fifth NX-class starship constructed by Earth, but unlike other NX-class ships like Enterprise and Endeavour, the ship never underwent a refit to add a secondary hull. Early in the war between Earth and Romulus, Challenger was attacked and captured by a Romulan fleet. After being thoroughly examined by Romulan engineers, Challenger became a war trophy and propaganda tool, demonstrating supposed Romulan superiority.
By the late 24th century, Challenger had been turned into a museum, still bearing its war wounds. The ship was suspended high above the city of vh'Jann next to a skyscraper.
