Vanya's feeling of dread didn'tt go away as the discussion continued. She still felt like she was a strip of latinum thrown into a pack of Ferengi, or a full blood Romulan freshly beamed down into the First City on Qu’onos carrying a bag full of Tribbles and a T-Shirt that says “All Klingons are bastards”
At Nat’s suggestion she spoke. “Lieuteant Vanya, Chief Science Officer. I was created on Romulus, and escaped into Federation custody. I have something of an interest in both worlds."
She thought for a moment as Alark made his pitch. Despite the graveness of the situation, she hated the concept of using enlightened self interest in working together 'There had to be more.
She saw the future, the same patterns in increasing circles. She voiced that opinion.
“I think this presents an opportunity. We fall into the same patterns every time. The Borg started carving up bases on both sides of the neutral zone, bringing the Romulans out of isolation. Neither side knew who did it, but they both agreed to share intelligence. And yet, there were plots a plenty of the next decade or so. Then the Dominion first threatened us, the Empire provided a Starfleet ship with a cloak and the expertise to use it in exchange for data about the Dominion, but then the Empire tried to destroy Deep Space Nine and the wormhole. Years later, the Romulans joined the war, but within a short time, Shinzon was leading his people back into war against the Federation. There has to come a point where we work beyond the bloodshed. There has to be more to the galactic discourse than working together to maintain the same status quo. "
She had said her piece, and was prepared for the feedback.
