STARDATE: 57667.36, APRIL 23, 2381, DAY 05 [1600 hrs]: GOOD SHEPHERD

Summons to this meeting went out to the CONN department late the previous night so that everyone in the department would have seen it by early morning. Truth be told, Sabrina had been on the Theurgy for five days and hadn’t met her department. Well, that wasn’t entirely true, she met Ensign Lauren Pierce the first day she beamed aboard for an official conversation that turned much more casual. This was nonetheless a long overdue matter which she needed to keep degrees of separation on. It occurred to her that this would be the first time since 2376 that she would be introducing herself to a new CONN department but unlike 2376, this department had been established and gone through a lot long before her tenure. Yet five hours in I make a unilateral change, Sabrina thought to herself before quickly moving on. If she was to shepherd Theurgy’s CONN department, she would need the knowledge and foresight of the personnel under her and that was why she had summoned them to meet for the first time.

Lail had settled in at the center of the room, standing. Focused on her PADD, she was like a misplaced work of art that had become a fixture in the lounge. Reading through departmental reports, Sabrina let out a sigh as she realized that she had left the CONN department to their own devices for the five days since she materialized aboard. Not that this was to be construed as a failure on anyone’s part, sometimes it was good to see how a department reacts when left alone to function.

The sounds of the doors to the Docking Bay Lounge opening drew Sabrina’s attention away from her PADD. She glanced up at the open doors as her department filed in. Her brown hues made contact subtly with each crew member walking through the door though she did not say a word as a slight hint of warmth came across her unique facial features, opting to let them settle in within the confines of the lounge before she spoke and addressed her department for the first time.

OOC: The meeting of the CONN department has begun. For the arrival of the crew members, there's no particular posting order. Once everyone has arrived, I will post to establish the meeting and set a new posting order as required.

Lauren walked in through the Docking Bay Lounge's doorway as the doors opened before her. She glanced around and saw the familiar faces and one she knew more than all the others in this instance. The message to meet wasn't something unexpected however as now that the crew had had some downtime, it was also time to figure out tasks and abilities of the departments, which she knew was something that hadn't been done officially since at least the time she boarded the vessel. The feeling of excitement washed over her as the cool air brushed her skin, causing bumps to rise up.

"Hello sir." she spoke with a polite, and courteous nod added for the senior officer.

She stopped afterwards, and saw out the viewport window the Allegiant, currently undergoing repairs and not a complete overhaul due to her "fancy" flying above Praxis. She peered on as if wondering what all needed to be done as the others piled inward too. Finding a seat at the tables that were corralled together, she slid into a chair and folded her hands together. A slight smile could be seen on Lt. Lail's face as the CONN crew sat too.

Although unsure what all they were to experience here, she was happy to be part of a team and a unit again that gave her a purpose. One that let her excel, use her flying abilities and that she could build that new friendship with other misfits aboard the Theurgy. Today was going to be a good day, she thought to herself. Letting a smile escape her lips.

It was just another day for Lillee. She had settled into what amounted to a normal routine since the battle, which proved a relief after all the excitement. There was just ordinary work, day by day; shuttle repairs, minor shuttle flights and the normal busywork that came with Lillee's job. It was much like the last week of their time at Aldea, just with a far less pleasant planet below them this time round. Lillee had taken every opportunity to visit Aldea, but she had no intention of visiting Qo'nos again unless it was at gunpoint.

Perhaps not even then.

When the message came through, Lillee merely shrugged as she read it. She'd heard about Derik Veradin's death, and that officers had transferred over to supplement the Theurgy's depleted CONN department, but besides Lauren Pierce, Lillee hadn't met any of them. It was traditionally a much smaller and less integrated department than Security, Engineering or Tac CONN, however, so such was hardly unusual. Besides Samala, there was little professional need for Lillee to associate with her colleagues. It was nothing new, and Lillee had worked that way for years in both Starfleet and the Star Navy, but she did recall the tight-knit Wolves with a tinge of melancholy. Perhaps this meeting wasn't a waste of time...

As the time neared for Lieutenant Lail's meeting, Lillee set off for Deck 19, walking with a leisurely stride. She arrived in the lounge, noted the two women already there, and faced the one she hadn't yet met. Judging by the two solid pips, she was surely the new boss, but Lillee couldn't appraise anything else.

"Petty Officer t'Jellaieu, reporting," Lillee said with curt professionalism, standing at relaxed attention. Her uniform was still slightly smudged and wrinkled here and there, her long blonde hair still tied in a rough ponytail, signs that Lillee had come directly from working down in the shuttlebay.

[ Chief Warrant Officer 1st Class  Larrant | Docking Bay Lounge | Deck 19 | Vector 03 | USS Theurgy ] Attn: @Pierce @Stegro88  @Griff  @redshift316  @Hope

Larrant had spent much of the time between returning from the surface of Qo'noS and now making repairs to his Environment Manipulation Unit. It was battle-tested on the streets of the First City and found to be a superior improvement over its predecessors. He was really starting to get the hang of the holographic upgrade despite the many awkward exchanges he had experienced with other crewmembers. Such was the case when he was notified about this department meeting.

He had been sitting in one of the many lounges on the ship observing the corporals around the room. He found people watching had become a valuable resource for him in understanding and interacting with his crewmates. The mental debate among his diad echoes provided extra annotation. The PADD on the table in front of his holographic avatar lit up notifying him of an incoming assignment, Being linked to his E.M.U. it also activated a notification in his pod. With that activation, the avatar slammed its face flat on the table hitting the PADD dead center. A few crewmembers turned to see what had happened. One young ensign turned to offer assistance but was pulled back when another officer grabbed her arm and shook his head, the officer having had a random encounter with Larrant previously.

With the information obtained, Larrant waited for the appropriate time to join the meeting. When it came the doors parted allowing him to enter. His avatars inhumanly wide and distorted smile prominently on his face he greeted those present,

She'd been on her way back to the Theurgy when the message had come through. Report for a meeting at 1600 ship time in the docking bay lounge on Deck 19. She wondered if sender had even checked to see if everyone was available to attend at that time before transmitting the order. Either way, she had had to fly the Type-9 shuttle back at right on the acceptable velocity limit to have enough time to complete her post-flight procedures with enough time to attend.

Approaching the lounge, she slowed her hurried pace to straighten out her uniform. Ever since the meeting with the Romulans, she had been on edge, her temper being shorter than normal; even for her. And now she was to meet the new head of her department, someone who was only now, after almost 5 days aboard the ship, was calling a meeting to meet those that worked under her. Yes, her mood was shot. With any luck, she would get out without having herself sent to the brig. She’d managed to avoid it the other morning, if only just, so why should today be anything different.

The doors to the lounge opened and she entered, pausing just inside and glancing around. Most of those present she recognised. There was Lillee, who she had threatened and Lauren, who she had surprised. Larrant, she recognised, if only because she had seen him headbutt a PADD and had received an explanation from another crewmember. Larrant was a Medusan and what she was seeing was only a hologram. The brown-haired lieutenant she didn’t recognise though.

“Crewman Samala, reporting,” she said, addressing the woman.

[ Ens. Jaya Thorne | Docking Bay Lounge| Deck 19 | Fair Is Fair | USS Theurgy ]
[Show/Hide]
Attn: @Pierce @Stegro88 @Griff  @jreeves1701

Jaya was wrapping up an impossibly dull shift on the bridge at the helm of the Theurgy when a  message from the new CONN boss came through. After nearly a week of being aboard Thea, this newbie chief--Lail? , had decided to grace her new subordinates with her presence. That didn’t bother Jaya at all.  As Assistant chief of the ship's CONN team, she had made damned sure her comrades had a schedule to follow and enough time for R and R. The CONN team was running as smoothly as a digital clock. Knowing how new bosses loved to change things for the sake of changing them, that smoothness was likely to evaporate by the end of next week.

Jaya had no illusions that she would be given permanent charge of the department. To be honest, that was all right with her. Let's some other career oriented sap worry about paperwork and related headaches. All she wanted to do was fly. Anything else was a waste of talent and resources. Any Starfleet Academy graduate can deal with paperwork, reviews, and work schedules. Not everybody had the skills and audacity to take a ship like Theurgy and squeeze every bit of capability out of her in terms of speed and maneuverability. Jaya could, and she took great joy and pride in doing so.

Jaya had never gone to the Academy. She’d risen from the lower decks to her spot on the CONN team. She had earned her commission through hard work, guts, and phenomenal talents piloting starships of all shapes and sizes. She didn’t have to rely on some posh resume about what grade she got in Transdimensional Basket Weaving back at the Academy. She could point at her contributions to show she belonged here. She had been with Theurgy since nearly the beginning of this whole terrifying adventure. She’d see it through to the end, or die trying.

Jaya had volunteered to work some extra duty shifts piloting work bees to help out with external repairs of Thea. After all, Thea was her home. The crew, her family.  The fact that working with the repair teams gave her some more face time with that hunky new Chief Engineer was a bonus. Frank Arnold was a bit of all right by her standards, Jaya thought to herself. An impish grin crossed her face as she thought back over their last significant encounter. She’d like to spend more time with the burly lad when he wasn’t elbows deep in the repairs to the ship. That kind of commitment to his work spoke to Jaya. She didn’t need to be someone’s total focus to enjoy spending time with someone.

That kind of overwhelming attention got to be cloying eventually. Or so she’d been told. She liked scratching a carnal itch like anyone, but eventually you have to find someone with whom you can turn over and have an actual conversation. But for right now she just wanted to find someone who looked forward to spending time with her as much as she did with them.

She didn’t want to think too hard about it. Life could be over in a week. Hell, on this ship you could be dead in five minutes. She remembered her father having a saying that always stuck with her--Men plan, God laughs. When it came to the Theurgy and her renegade crew, God must be rolling on the floor holding His sides from the non-stop giggles. That being said, Jaya knew the mission. She believed in it. The odds were heavily against them. She was willing to pay the price if it meant her crew ultimately scored the victory. She wasn't one to buy into patriotism or other philosophical sehlat droppings. Life is pain, and anybody that says differently is selling something.

But if Jaya knew anything about this messed-up universe, it was this.  If the Theurgy and her crew failed, a lot of people were going to suffer horribly and die. Jaya might have tried to maintain an outer shell of jaded yet amused arrogance as her defense mechanism against an uncaring universe. But inside, she still gave a damn.

At least that's what her counselor wrote on her last mandatory psych exam. Jaya knew it said that because she had snuck a peak when the counselor had left the room to tend to yet another crewman who had suffered a psychotic break. The last thing she wanted was the universe to fall to a chaotic disaster of one kind or another, especially from mind-controlling bug infestations. Those were the worst!

Two minutes before the designated time of the meeting, Jaya strolled into the room in a relaxed manner. She gave her fellow pilots a friendly nod and wave before looking up to see this Lail standing in the middle of the room. Jaya wondered if this kid got by with her rank or if she actually had pilot skills. She had seen more than her share of people who had been promoted well over their skill level. A lot of those people were dead now. What this ship needed were pilots who were more than just competent. They needed to be the best.

"Jaya Thorne."

She said her name as if that was all the introduction she would ever need. The tone was friendly, the smile cheerful. After all, they were now shipmates. She saved her ire for the enemy. The only competition Jaya considered herself in was with herself. She wasn't so arrogant that she didn't think she could learn from other people. After all, she had been a newbie herself in what seemed to be a thousand years ago. Maybe she could teach this new lieutenant a few things to help her survive and grow in their future endeavors against the evils of the galaxy that opposed them.

She took a seat against a wall so she could see the whole room easily and relaxed in her chair. Okay, kid, Jaya thought. It's your show.

Of all the places she had been posted to: the Enterprise-D, the Enterprise-E, Starfleet Command, and the USS Oneida, she never once found herself among such a diverse group. Well, Starfleet Command might have been an exception but she was always too busy to notice. From the PADD she held a passing thought occurred to her: a Medusan, a Romulan, a Reman, and two humans: what could possibly go wrong? Though anything that did would reflect back on her as their commanding officer.

Lail watched on as everyone took their seats within the lounge; well except for Jaya who chose a more peculiar place away from the rest of the group to, only at the guess of Sabrina, have a better view of everyone in the room. Though she wasn’t far enough away that Lail would have to speak loudly for her to hear.

From Sabrina’s perspective, she speculated that this was the first time the CONN department had a meeting held like this. How unusual she thought. She might as well jump in her thoughts continued.

Sabrina sat down in a chair close to the group that had gathered; her long, flowing chestnut brown hair falling back into place naturally. The slender brunette made eye contact with Ensign Pierce whom she had met several days ago to acknowledge her contribution silently to the arrangement of this meeting with a nod of the head.

Greetings,” Lail said in a warm voice. She changed tones to a more commanding one. “By now you know who I am or are at the very least, acquainted with the fact I am the new Chief CONN Officer reporting from the Oneida after you had lost your previous one in battle.” Lail continued with care in her voice, “I didn’t wait five days to hold this meeting because of something more pertinent to do, I waited five days out of respect for your fallen shipmates and to give you time to mourn.

She stood up and turned on her heel to reface the department. Having returned to a commanding tone, “from what I can tell by the undertones of this meeting, this is the first time the CONN department has had a meeting like this which I find unusual for a ship of this size. I suppose you can get by with reports for so long but a meeting is needed every once in a while from what I have learned if only to debrief. So don’t expect this to be the only one.

Sabrina knew her new department would have doubts about her - it was only natural. She pulled up her own Starfleet service record on the PADD she had been holding before sliding it down the table for any of her department to see. “Go ahead,” she said confidently, “I have no secrets when it comes to my service record. That’s everything including my demotion from Lieutenant Commander.” She waited to see if any of her subordinates would pick it up before continuing.

Lail caught glimpses of Jaya and Lauren. “As for my piloting abilities, aside from serving on two Federation flagships, there is an entire crew to our port,” referring to the Oneida, “who can attest to that.” Sabrina was no person to shy away from confidence.

But enough about me,” Lail said as she slid her right fingers through her hair - perhaps that confidence shows a little too much but that was just embroiled in her personality. “I’ve assembled this meeting because a PADD can only tell me so much about you; I want to know your strengths and weaknesses, who you are as a person, and importantly: what I can do for you.

We’ll go from there,” Sabrina stated waiting for the first person to speak up.

OOC: Due to the holidays, I left this open-ended for posting order.

By this point Lauren was familiar with various members of the CONN crew present at this meeting of their new Department head. Granted, she'd already met her days ago but this was the formal meeting of sorts. She recognized Samala and Lillee both, but the rest she was unfamiliar with by and large. The perks of being new I guess.

She peered at Sabrina's service record which was very impressive to say the least. A lot of accolades and placements but she was really good.

Lauren figured she was up first and so she spoke to the Lieutenant's inquiry. "Well, we've already met. But for the group, I am Ensign Lauren Pierce. I've been a pilot during the Dominion War, piloted vessels of various sizes from the Sovereign Class Enterprise-E to the Allegiant on our recent mission to Qo'nos and Praxis as well as Valkyrie's. My strengths are ability to work under pressure in various situations both in person like during the incursion of the Klingon's in sickbay and on the bridge at the CONN. Weaknesses might be overconfidence and my PTSD during the Dominion War. I have a hard time with the Breen or the Jem'hadar." She paused and thought momentarily. "I guess I'd have to say, I'd like to get more integrated but otherwise I think I'll be fine. Thank you for this meeting sir." She replied with a curt head nod before ceasing her part of the conversation.

Lillee watched and waited, bemused by all the new faces. Besides Thorne, whom Lillee hadn't really interacted with besides brief exchanges during shift changes, everyone else had come aboard after the battle with the Borg. The strangeness of being an 'old hand' was disquieting; it had been barely two months since Lillee herself had arrived and had been the 'newbie'.

The thought that the new transfers were replacing casualties was sobering. Lillee didn't even want to think about how many in the department had died since the Theurgy's initial escape from Earth.

After Lauren was done, Lillee decided to speak up next. "I am PO3 Lillee t'Jellaieu," she said, bowing her head briefly in greeting to the others. "Lillee, if my name is difficult for your tongue. I am responsible for shuttle flights along with Samala." As Lillee spoke, she kept a weather eye on Lail, noting the lieutenant's reactions. "I served originally in the Star Navy, first flying Hawk-class fighters and then warbirds. I saw combat in both against the Klingons and Starfleet in this capacity. After I defected, I flew fighters in the war. I also tested the Valkyries and Valravns, so I am qualified all of them, but I did not train in Tac CONN. I am qualified to fly Federation starships of all sizes as well."

Lillee paused, then, thinking back. "I flew the Stallion against the Asurans, the Allegiant against the Klingons and a Valkyrie against the Borg. You ask for strengths, ma'am? I can fly anything, out-fly anyone, and I know Romulan tactics and maneuvers better than almost anyone else in Starfleet. Weaknesses? I am not trained on the Theurgy specifically, and I have very little time at the conn of Federation starships. My astrogation and scientific education is also...not comparable to that of yours." The admission was grudging, but Lillee couldn't deny it. "I wouldn't know how to fly the Theurgy through quantum slipstream or bounce off a soliton wave, or anything like that, but I can fly her in combat."

With that, Lillee paused again, looking directly at Lail this time, her demeanour serious. "Truthfully, Lieutenant, I could use some help in the shuttlebays. Many of our shuttles were damaged when we were boarded by the Klingons and in other operations, but shuttle repair is low on the priority list of the engineers, so I am mostly doing it on my own. At current pace, it will take weeks to get them all operational again."

[ Chief Warrant Officer 1st Class  Larrant | Docking Bay Lounge | Deck 19 | Vector 03 | USS Theurgy ] Attn: @Pierce  @Stegro88   @Griff @redshift316  @Hope

Larrant's holographic avatar sat patiently as the containment unit beneath the photons scanned the environment. It was the closest he would come to actually experience the physical world around him. Yes, he could easily possess any one of the individuals around him, an amoral violation of a very strict Starfleet and Federation code. It would be a vile rape of a corporal sentient being.

Lail's PADD arrived at him as it was his turn to speak. The moment his holographic hand touch the PADD, his containment units processor accessed the information. Instead of reading the contents as the previous crewmember had Larrants avatar head snapped to attention and beams of light radiated from its eyes. A holographic projection of Lail's service record began playing out in the space between them. It was filled with images of the Enterprise D and E in combat and orbiting various worlds. Public records of Lail's service and career promotions aboard those vessels. There were commendations from various department heads, nonrestricted medical and psychological profiles from the Chief Medical Officer and Counselor of both vessels, and finally a glowing review by Commander William Riker. His name was highlighted as Larrant pulled up information on his current posting. A side holographic image tabbed out to the sid with a revolving Luna Class starship, beneath it the text USS TITAN NCC 80102 -- CO CAPTAIN WILLIAM T. RIKER.

Once the contents of Lail's service record had finished playing out visually above the crowd with the video of her transfer from the Oneida to the Theurgy, the projection ended. Larrant's avatar relaxed and he looked around the room at his fellow officers.

"MY APOLOGIES. THERE ARE STILL SOME ISSUES WITH THE HOLOGRAPHIC INTERFACE OF MY CONTAINMENT UNIT." Larrant handed the pad to the next officer.

"I AM LARRANT. I AM ONE OF A DOZEN MEDUSANS SERVING IN STARFLEET."
At the thought of his service record, Larrant's avatar stiffened again and began projecting his past. "MY CAREER BEGAN AT A TIME BEFORE ANY OF YOU WERE BIRTHED. I WAS INVOLVED WITH NAVIGATIONAL UPGRADES TO THE ENTERPRISE-SUBCLASS VARIANT OF THE CONSTITUTION-CLASS. LATER I JOINED THE MEDUSAN DELEGATION TO VULCAN AT A TIME BEFORE ANY OF YOU WERE BIRTHED. IT WAS THERE FURTHER EFFORTS TO DEVELOP WAYS FOR MY KIND TO FURTHER INCORPORATE INTO FEDERATION SOCIETY. BY EXPLORING VULCAN MENTAL ABILITIES A SHARED MIND DICHOTOMY WAS DEVELOPED."

The holographic image began playing recordings of the Medusan delegation to Vulcan. Antigrav PODS surrounded by stoic Vulcans.

"IT WAS A SUCCESSFUL EXPERIMENT THAT LED TO MY FELLOW MEDUSANS PARTNERING WITH CORPORAL BEINGS, SHARING OUR KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCES. SIMILAR TO THE SYMBIOSIS BETWEEN TRILLS AND THEIR SYMBIONTS."

And like Trill hosts, the Medusan's hosts would one day die too. The holographic images changed to images of Larrant's many diad hosts. First was a beautiful young Vulcan female. The text below her image identified her as T'Vella: status deceased. That image morphed into one of a Vulcan/Romulan hybrid identified as Sollek, next to his image a Starfleet service log that included many ships, each briefly highlighted as the log scrolled down.

"LIKE TRILL SYMBIONTS WHOSE HOSTS LACK LONGEVITY, MY DIAD RELATIONSHIPS LACKED PERMANENCE. I CONTINUED MY SERVICE TO STARFLEET AND THE FEDERATION THROUGH THE USE OF OTHER TELEPATHIC MINDS."

Sollek's image began to age and vanished as a battle from the Tholian War played out. It was then replaced by a female Betazoid identified as Yemma Glix.

"MY PEOPLE DID NOT WANT TO BE SEEN AS A PARASITE AND THE UNEXPECTED EMOTIONS OF LOSING THE DIAD BOND WEIGHED HEAVY ON THOSE OF US WHO POSSESSED THEM. I JOINED A TEAM AT UTOPIA PLANITIA INVOLVED IN THE GALAXY-CLASS DEVELOPMENT PROJECT. WE DEVELOPED A INTERACTIVE NAVIGATIONAL CONTROL SYSTEM. IT WAS INSTALLED ON THE GALAXY, YAMATO, ODYSSEY, AND VENTURE. THE ENTERPRISE-D HAD OPTED FOR AN EXPERIMENTAL CETACIAN NAVIGATIONAL OPERATION SYSTEM."

Each vessel appeared on the holographic display along with its current status. When the image of the Odyssey appeared, the hologram was filled with static and began to blink in and out. It was replaced with an image of a Vorta female.

"NOT ALL DIADS HAVE BEEN A WILLING COMBINATION OF MINDS. I WAS HELD PRISONER BY THE DOMINION. TORTURED FOR THE VAST KNOWLEDGE AND NAVIGATIONAL ABILITIES MY SPECIES POSSES. THE DOMINION WAR INTRODUCED AN EVEN GREATER NEED FOR MEDUSANS TO ACQUIRE INDEPENDENCE FROM THE DIAD LINK IF WE WERE TO CONTINUE BEING MEMBERS OF THE FEDERATION AND SERVING IN STARFLEET."

The hologram shifted from the battles fought by the USS Venture during the Dominion War to the war-torn world of Betazed. The image of Yemma Glixx reappeared

"I RECONNECTED WITH A PREVIOUS DIAD WHOSE CONNECTION WAS SEVERED DURING THE WAR. I HELPED REBUILD HER WORLD AND SHE HELPED ME CONSTRUCT A CORPORAL BODY."

The hologram image changed to the schematics of the Mark II E.M.U.

"WITH THE ABILITY TO INTERACT WITH OTHERS WITHOUT THE NEED OF A TELEPATHIC LINK, I REENTERED STARFLEET SERVICE. THANKS TO THE ENCOURAGEMENT OF A YOUNG CADET I TOOK MY FIRST SOLO ASSIGNMENT."

The holographic image morphed into the image of a long-haired blond female Cairn identified as Hedril. As the image of the Cairn faded it was replaced with a Luna-Class vessel, the USS Ganymede.

"MY TIM ABOARD THE GANYMEDE WAS EXTREMELY VALUABLE IN DEVELOPING AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE PHYSICAL WORLD. THE NEED OF THE THEURGY BROUGHT ME HERE."

The images being projected shifted to the events of the past weeks, from battles in space and planetside. It was as the battle on the streets of the First City played out that the hologram began to flicker again. This time to be replaced with a cascade of Klingon glyphs. A second later and the projection ceased altogether and Larrant's avatar body relaxed to a neutral posture.

"AGAIN, I APOLOGIZE. IT SEEMS MY POD'S MENTAL IMAGE COMMUNICATOR'S U.T. IS IN NEED OF RECALIBRATION. I HAVE BEEN DECRYPTING KLINGON NAVIGATIONAL CHARTS IN PREPARATIONS FOR OUR TRAVELS WITHIN THE EMPIRE." Not a lie but an omission and exaggeration. A skill Larrant picked up from Sollek. What Larrant did on Qo'noS was wrong. He had tapped Kij'qa's mind before the Klingon had died. It was a last-minute decision. Larrant could not kill. He didn't have to connect with a mind telepathically to feel the tsunami of pain that comes with death. He had no choice and as a result, he now possessed a Klingon ghost, haunting his subconscious.

Larrant's head turned mechanically as he tried to read the faces of those around him. It would have been so much easier just to enter their minds. They were all open books waiting to be read, all he had to do was crack their covers. But he made an oath that he would not.

Sabrina sat down, crossing her right leg over the left, as the Medusan holographically played out her Starfleet service record and other related non-confidential information above the gathered meeting participants. Once it had completed she let Larrant introduce himself and explain his history with holographic visual representations. Afterward, Sabrina interjected into the conversation before Samala or Jaya Thorne could speak up. “Very good, so far. I want to thank you Larrant for your ability to lay bare my entire service record in holographic form,” Sabrina said with a confident demeanor before continuing softly, “I know each of you,” looking around at every officer, “has some doubt about me but I hope I can erase those doubts — in time.

Each of you wouldn’t be where you are if you weren’t the right person for the job,” Lail stated. Of course, as she said that she had her own doubts. Doubts which were to be expected; she didn’t work side-by-side with this CONN department or even have a say in choosing them as she did on the Oneida. Well, that wasn’t entirely true, Sabrina did get to choose the Assistant Chief CONN Officer for Vector 3 but the rest were already chosen for her. What could she do besides make it work?

More integrated,” Lail began by addressing the red-haired CONN officer’s concerns first. “You will get more integrated with time and while I know this department is undergoing changes, it is still nonetheless true,” she assured Ensign Pierce. It was all Sabrina had to say on the matter; to her, it was very simple.

She next turned her attention to Lillee, her demeanor that of being intrigued. “It sounds like you have quite the history Lillee; one that’s made me very curious. Unfortunately, it is neither the time nor place for me to satisfy my curiosity but it is good to know that we have someone with such comprehensive experience and while you may not have been trained on the Theurgy specifically, you did fly the Stallion,” Sabrina stated.

Sabrina’s demeanor changed, reflecting that of Lillee’s when she was telling her the current situation with the shuttles. Lail found it absurd that no engineering repair teams had been assigned to help Lillee and while she understood Theurgy was heavily damaged during the affair with the Klingons, Engineering could at least spare one or two repair teams to assist Lillee. “I will speak with Lieutenant Arnold about assigning repair teams to assist you Lillee,” Sabrina said with an almost irritated tone in her voice - not at Lillee but at Engineering. In Sabrina’s eyes, if Lieutenant Arnold’s teams could repair the glorified pool area she’s heard so much about they certainly can help with the shuttles. However her feelings on the matter, she couldn’t let them get in the way of being diplomatic with Lieutenant Arnold.

Taking a deep breath, Sabrina recomposed herself. “Before moving on with the meeting I’d still like to hear from Samala and Jaya,” Lail said knowing she interrupted before either could speak up. “Also, does anyone have anything they want to add before we move on?” Sabrina asked.

Sitting there, Samala wondered why everyone had so much to say about themselves. She had always been taught to show, not to tell. Anyone could make a promise, but it was the deeds that came afterward that made the promise what it was supposed to be. And sure, listening to everyone speak about what they had done in the past allowed you to gage what they might be capable of now, but if you didn’t constantly test yourself, try to better yourself, then you would fall behind.

“I was born in the Reman underground and I have never seen either of my parent’s homeworlds,” Samala began. “I was trained to fight, fix and fly in that order. And I think I have done that pretty well so far. Lillee has cleared me on all the shuttle classes this ship has, and I know the Apache better than the back of my hand,” Samala went on.

“I don’t know what else you can do for me. I’m a Crewman Third Class, and only that because of prior experience. I am still taking courses that have been assigned to me for things that someone else thinks I need to know,” Samala pointed out evenly. “Besides, with everyone else here it's not like they are going to let me drive anything bigger than a shuttle even if I wanted to.”

Jaya had listened with interest to her fellow CONN officers go over their personal experience.  Honestly, some of these pilots were head and shoulders over her in terms of ratings on Starfleet ships. She appreciated people who knew what they were doing. She wasn't so egotistial that she didn't think she had skills she could sharpen with the right tutors. She had faith in herself earned through hard work and experience in battle. That being said, her earlier cocky attitude upon entry into the room was disappating like liquid hydrogen on a hot plate.

When she had the opportunity to speak once more, Jaya did so with less attitude but still plenty of confidence.
"I'm Jaya Thorne, Assistant CONN chief.  I've got less formal Starfleet experience than some of you. I didn't go to the Academy. Instead of getting advanced degrees in any number of things, I was working at the helm of civil ships. I'm experienced with anything from work bees through Kestrel class corvettes and Valley Forge biodome carriers all the way to a Narcissus Class refinery ship that could carry the Theurgy in one of her holds."

"I could make ships like that dance. The Theurgy is like a modern fighter compared to those bulkier ships. It's a joy to pilot this ship, and an honor. I've been with this ship since nearly the beginning of our renegade status."
She looked to the new Chief with a warmer smile.
"If I can be of any help, I'd be delighted to do so."
