Status Update

The cluster of ending posts for the myriad of current scenes in Chapter 04: Invictus are 80% finished, where Carrigan Trent's public speech on the intercom will be heard on the Theurgy. Non-Theurgy scenes will also have their endings, of course. I am, of course referring to these well-known threads:

CHAPTER 04: Invictus [01: Subjection]
CHAPTER 04: Invictus [02: System Reboot]
CHAPTER 04: Invictus [03: Liberation]

New threads to continue current events are the following, and the POVs that I will be writing in each of the scenes listed is within [brackets]:

Chapter 04: Invictus [04: Retaliation]
- Shuttle-bay [Liberation team, Narrator]
- Brig Interrogation Room(s) [Zaraq + Riptor, Zaraq leaves.]
- Corridors [Distraction team, Zaraq]

Chapter 04: Invictus [05: Anodyne]
- Attack on Medical Labs [Smoke & Titan]
- Attack on Main Sickbay [Phantom]
- Cargo-hold, Deck 02 [Lucan + 2 Harbinger Pilots]

Chapter 04: Invictus [06: Insurgency]
- Morrigan Rising [Narrator or Hannah]
- Vector 3 Battle Bridge [T'Rena]
- Upper Computer Core [Thea + Rihen]

Chapter 04: Invictus [07: Calamity]
- Harbinger [Ida + Trujillo]
- Uncharted Planetoid [Rawley]
- Main Bridge [Cala]

All the above starting posts is a heavy undertaking, so I hope you can understand why it takes me some time to complete them and to give them my best. That being said, I'd say they are 60 % finished. More scenes may be added to each thread as required, and scenes in some of these threads may lead to the other threads.

And yes, in 07: Calamity, she will strike again...

I know some of you are eagerly waiting for this development, so I thought I'd give you a status update from my writing sessions. If I would make an estimate, I think all of the above posts will be posted in the middle of next week at the latest!

Best Regards,

Auctor Lucan

Welcome back Sirus and Maya! Also a warm welcome to you Rosaria. Also I might have missed a few new people... So welcome to everyone!!
Also to keep you guys in the loop, I'll be off for a holiday starting 5/5 till 12/5 with no or very limited internet access. So expect little to no responses from me.

Kind regards

Thanks for the update, Nolan! I hope you understand if we make your characters tag long with the evolving events without actively playing them or interacting too much with them during that time. This in order to prevent things from being halted too much.

STORY UPDATE

An hour ago, I posted my (most likely) last posts in 01: Subjection and 03: Liberation. I will also be posting in 02: System Reboot as soon as Kurohigi and Searcher posts with Lin Kae and Skye Carver.

I am working on the 4 starter posts I mentioned last in this thread, and I will post them as soon as possible. I am currently in Oslo, Norway, on vacation but I am still around, as you can see.

Don't forget to read the OOC notes at the bottom of the posts in 01 and 03, and remember, it is only characters present on the USS Theurgy that may hear the speech on the intercom. A speech that will be continued in the new starters posts, so please don't interject with replies to Carrigan Trent just yet.

Best Regards,

Auctor Lucan

STATUS UPDATE

The new threads to continue current events have been posted! There were some slight edits to the former list to streamline the story better as a whole. It is optional to post in the old threads as well as the new if that makes more sense to you. I don't want to ask you all to write two posts instead of one for each of your characters, though, but I can imagine that there is a lot to digest in the intercom dialogue for your characters so it might be a good idea to spread out the reactions if you want to.

First, unless you have read up on the ending posts of [01: Subjection], [02: System Reboot] and [03: Liberation], do so now (those were links btw).

Then, you all have these new threads:

Chapter 04: Invictus [04: Retaliation]
Attn: Zenozine, Doctor Maya, CanadianVet, Axius, Triage & RosariaRosette.
(Later, in the Brig, also IronFerrox, Cathreen Dawinter & Kurohigi)

  • [ USS Theurgy | Lower Shuttle Bay | Deck 07 ]
Attn: Wenn Cinn, Axius vel Onea & Cameron Henshaw
  • [ USS Theurgy | En-Route Deck 05 | Deck 07 ]
Attn: Tessa May Lance & Sten Covington. Optionally: Morrigan

Chapter 04: Invictus [05: Anodyne]
Attn: Brutus, Searcher, The Counselor, Doctor Maya, Triage, IronFerrox, Nolan, Zenozine, Sirus & RosariaRosette
  • [ USS Theurgy | Medical Lab 01 | Sickbay | Deck 07 ]
Attn: Sarresh Morali, Ryuan Sel & Eve Jenkins. Optionally: Morrigan
  • [ USS Theurgy | CMO Office | Sickbay | Deck 07 ]
Attn: Hayden O'Connor, Doctor Maya, Vinata Vojona & Lahkesis Saugn. Optionally: Morrigan
  • [ USS Theurgy | Corridor | En-Route to Cargo Hold 02 | Deck 02 ]
Attn: Hylota Vojona, Heather McMillan, Aisha S'Iti, Natalie Stark, Simon Tovarek & Rory Callahan

Chapter 04: Invictus [06: Calamity]
Attn: IronFerrox, Kurohigi, Searcher, CanadianVet, Doctor Maya, DocReno, Nolan & RosariaRosette
  • [ USS Theurgy | Vector 03 Battle Bridge | Deck 08 ]
Attn: Carrigan Trent, Billy Bob O'Connell & Declan Vasser. Optionally: Morrigan
  • [ USS Theurgy | Upper Computer Core | Deck 05 ]
    Attn: Selena Ravenholm
  • [ USS Theurgy | Corridor | Close to the Upper Computer Core | Deck 05 ]
Attn: Lin Kae & Skye Carver. Optionally: Morrigan
  • [ USS Harbinger | Corridors | Deck 07 ]
    Attn: DocReno & Nolan
  • [ Uncharted Planetoid | Outside the Class-9 Nebula ]
Attn: Nathaniel Isley & Tomas Ravon

OBS: Until the party in the Shuttle Bay in [04: Retaliation] arrives to the Brig, Kurohigi, IronFerrox and Cathreen Dawinter continues to play out the scenes in the Brig with me in the old [01: Subjection] thread.

In order to read the dialogue between T'Rena and Carrigan Trent in its entirety, which most people on the Theurgy will be able to hear on the intercom, you should read the paragraphs in italics in the different relevant sections of the starter posts above. In 06: Calamity, I chose to only include T'Rena's reply since it fit best, but Carrigan's last public dialogue is available in 04 and 05, which should suffice quite well for the affected scenes.

As much writing as this was, not to mention the time to plan it all, I am still excited about getting so close to the finishing battle with the Calamity with the above events. 06: Calamity will lead directly into the battle with the namesake for the thread, and it makes sense since the Harbinger and the Lone Wolves are in that thread too (space battle arrangement). Also, I would like to give special thanks to CanadianVet for writing up the intercom dialogue from Carrigan Trent, which permeated the transition between the old threads and the new ones in Chapter 04: Invictus.

I hope you guys are as excited as I am about the development of the story but if you have any questions or wishes for minor edits, please let me know and I will reply as soon as I can. :)

Best Regards,

I have to ask before I start writing, would Vinata be noticed if he jumped from his spot at the desk and hide behind the wall of the surgical suite. I just want to know if Phantom would see him as he tried to get around behind him.

Maya: Tsk, tsk, your loss. ;)

Zenozine: Lol, that is a very good question. If we were playing a DnD game, I'd make you roll a dice for it. As it is, I am not a fan of such things, so I suggest that if you want to make Vinata do so, do it in a way that makes it plausible to the readers and co-writers. That is, don't have him jump or do sudden moves, but from under the blankets in which he is hiding, slip down behind the desk and then make use of how Phantom appreciates Doctor Maya's derrière to slip behind one of the circular walls. If you give me a couple of hours, I will soon have the time to make a tactical map over the current situation in Sickbay for the benefit of both the writers with characters in the med labs as well as in the CMO Office.

Auctor Lucan

XD for my own amusement I rolled a d20, Vinata epicly failed his escape attempt an landed flat on his face with a 2 being rolled. But o not worry, I figure with Vinata being under several blankets curled tightly into a ball he would not b spotted he Phantom has more interesting things to focus on. I was thinking that Vinata would sneak away with a blanket an use it to blind Phantom and buy someone time to act.

STAR TREK: THEURGY POLL RESULTS

Below you can find the result of 9 answers to the poll. We currently have 15 writers excluding yours truly, but I can't remember how many we were when the poll was sent out. I have removed "Not sure" replies to some sections to put this within the posting character limit.

Does your GM generally need to increase, decrease, or keep to the same posting length when he writes?
  • I would say keep it the same.  Lucan's post length has suited his personal writing style very well and as such I have not found the length of his posts overwhelming nor uninformative.

  • Keep the same.

  • Keep the same posting length.

  • This is a difficult question to answer since the length of each post depends on how much information has to be conveyed.  The first post has to be long, there's no way around it.  During conversations seems the best place to trim the length, but since interior monologue provides a lot of information (including reminders of earlier events) I'm not sure shortening the posts is a good idea.  I'd say keep the same posting length but don't feel restricted by it.

  • Posts for individual characters are a good length but kinda daunting when sending multiple characters at once. I would suggest breaking posts down to 1 or 2 characters at a time for ease of reading.

  • I personally love the length of posts and find that they are just the right length to get thoughtful replies that come in a timely manner.

  • It all depends on the situation.  Sometimes we need a lot of information but sometimes it can get overwhelming.

  • KEEP! I Love your post length.

  • I have no problem with your post length.
Do you feel lost and without direction in the game? If so, how would you like to be informed about story development?
  • No, that said whenever i am even slightly confused I tend to just ask the GM himself or whatever person I am writing with so that we can find a means to write whatever scene or scenes need written.  I do feel though that I am more forward about voicing my opinions to the GM that some may be so it would be hard for me to get lost as much as I communicate with the GM.

  • On occasion, yes. There are a lot of threads to keep up with that I don't actually contribute much to. Summary posts might be a good solution.

  • Not really, you usually add markers like floorplans and stuff to get a good visual idea of the scenario as for the story, you can always scroll back to read up.

  • I have felt lost and without direction in the game, although currently I have direction.  I'd like some indication of where a scene is supposed to go so I can recognize my cues.   A posting order is essential.

  • We get great guidance and a lot of it resolves itself organically.

  • No not at all, I think that the general premise of the story is sound enough to give each Roleplayer something to do.

  • Frequently but you are sending notes to help.

  • Sometimes I feel lost, but that might be because I am newer or haven't read the previous posts like I should have.

  • Sometimes I do feel lost, though to be fair, I think more than half that has to do with not having as much time as I'd like to read each post in careful detail.  I think as long as you continue to keep us informed about where the overall plot is going, I can feel a bit more comfortable about posting to move things forward. One thing that might help is to identify objectives per department.  I truly don't want to overtax you, Lucan, nor do I want to give you the sense you need to constantly hold my hand, but I LOVE when you PM me with suggestions for how you see X helping out.  Sometimes I forget the complex history of the game, and you give me other angles to explore (or you help me see why my ideas aren't feasible given what's ahead) that I wouldn't otherwise consider.
Name one thing you want me to continue doing as GM.
  • The Posting order/ chapter progress update lists in the OOC thread.  Love those!

  • Riding herd on me and helping me brainstorm replies.

  • Keep this story going!

  • Coming up with a basic storyline structure to give direction.

  • Keep making sure that everyone is involved, you are by far the most attentive GM I have ever had. This is one of the best groups I have ever been apart of and I feel welcome here.

  • Just keep doing what you're doing.

  • Being so involved and encouraging to your players.

  • Keep providing plot updates, please! It also really helps me to see the list of threads in chronological order, like you post in the OOC thread.
Name one thing you want me to stop doing as GM.
  • Misspelling X's name please.  Her name is Y not X.  There is no Z.

  • Nothing immediately comes to mind, but believe me, once you do something I don't like, I'll make sure to tell ya.

  • I Personally cannot think of anything I would like you to stop doing as GM.

Name one thing you want me to start doing as GM.
  • Possibly create an OOC (on topic) and an OOC (Off topic) a group chatroom via a browser friendly IRC or similar thing.  Alternatively a creation of an Off topic OOC thread for non Roleplay related OOC talk amongst us players.

  • I keep trying to think of ways to help encourage posting regularity, but I got nothing. Maybe cut down on a few of the npc's that were other folks characters? Kill them off if we can mange.

  • Add more characters maybe? Not really a clear vision here for me.

  • N/A (These are difficult questions for me to answer which is frustrating because I think these three questions are the most important.  It's taken me a while to realize what you're doing as a GM and I'm leaning towards the status quo.  Hopefully I'll have intelligent answers for you on the next group poll.)

  • Department objectives, perhaps?
List the times/periods in the last couple of Chapters where the story seemed to drag on, you were bored, or the energy in the Group seemed the lowest.
  • To be honest I cant say I know for certain when it dragged on.  At the times when the story seemed to drag I had been less eager to write anyways so in the end it was a good thing it had been low energy as if it had not I would have ended up missing out on a lot.

  • The lead up to the takeover, there seemed to be a heavy stall.

  • I think Lohlunat  dragged on a bit too long. The other topics were fine though. Even though, Lohlunat  was a very good way to test other players.

  • For me the story seemed to drag on at the beginning of Chapter Three part two but that's par for the course for a two-parter as any two part episode on television proves.

  • The party seemed a bit slow. Other than a few story-driving points, it could largely have been run in parallel with the rest of the episode.

  • I fell that that was the point where we had an emergency on the ship right before the mutiny, it just seemed to grind to a halt for my characters and nothing happened for me.

  • Nothing seemed to drag, more so it seemed there was so much going on it was hard to keep up with everything.

  • These last chapters have been filled with action, I like them.

  • I've really enjoyed the most recent events -- hostile takeover, etc. where the characters had to think their way out of problems or face a true moral/emotional dilemma.  I didn't enjoy the Festival of the Moon stuff as much because all the threads seemed to be a wall to wall sex fest.  I realize this is an adult site, but as I shared before I joined, I really don't want to write porn with a bit of Trek thrown in for color.  I'm ok with sexual content when it makes sense, but I think the emotional impact gets lost if every character is raped repeatedly, for example, or mind control results in characters having sex all over the place is used too often as a plot device. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying exploring the emotional impact of rape as a writing challenge, but I don't want to see sex and violent non-consensual sex become so frequent the characters shake it off or become so psychologically compromised no counselor in the universe can be effective.
Do you feel rail-roaded in the story? (meaning: you get pushed into an IC-situation you do not want to write) If so, when was this?
  • Not really, that Said i have been communicating with Lucan so regularly that I have been able to request my character to be in whatever situation i wanted him in so I cant complain my character has been placed in any scenario that i didn't have some say so in.

  • The last time I felt rail-roaded was when I agreed to play an X instead of a race I knew anything about. (GM Note: Through influence of another player) We've managed to take care of that by a] having Y leave the game and b] subjecting the poor bastard to Z.

  • Not at all.

  • I must confess that I'm uncomfortable with many of the sex scenes, but if it's either sex or gore I better take the sex.

  • Not at all. Great care is taken to ensure players have plenty of latitude.

  • I have only felt rail-roaded once, and that was when the moon festival was going on still and we jumped to the next day. I found my character in a surgery and the person she had been wooing the night before in someone else's room. It killed the mood since I then had to make my character leave her scene and rush back to her room to get some sleep and it made the entire sex scene seem like a fling as the other character was open to be in someone else room the ext day. As annoying as this was thought I know why it had been done. I was recruited at the change in chapter so I was showing up last minute and my GM was simply working me into the story where I would have hopefully met more people for my own good. So I never really felt bad about that incident.

  • Not so far.

  • Nope!

  • No, I've never felt rail-roaded and I'm pretty comfortable asserting my limits.
Are you enjoying playing your character(s), and if not, what would you like to happen to them?
  • Yes loving it, X less so than Z and Y but I should be enjoying her more during this chapter as events unfold as i will get to let her show more of her actual personality and motivations soon.

  • By and large, yes, I am enjoying the characters. X has grown a lot. Z has just gone through hell and how he copes with that will be interesting.

  • We've discussed this before in IM :P

  • I am enjoying playing my characters, even X and will soon write a new background for Z.

  • Yes. X could use more of an active role off the Y though. Perhaps get him double-hatted as the ship's Z as well?

  • I'm enjoying my characters, with the inclusion of another to my lit I feel I will be getting more in the group as time goes on, but my choice initially had me kind of limited on who I was meeting to interact with in an RP. Then again that was very early on so I feel  will likely meet more people as time goes on.

  • I do like my characters and hope they find a happy ending.

  • I am! However, I would like for X and Y to have their story element, but we have already discusses that.

  • I really enjoy X, and I'm going to focus on JPing with others.  Hopefully, there will be more downtime planned for Y (or I can create supplementary threads)
Is your GM fair or do you feel he favours any particular player over the others?
  • If anything I feel that he seems to allow me a bit more leeway and control over my own character's destiny and i feel I may have been being given preferential treatment at times. If anyone feels that their characters are being ignored or not given enough attention I would give them the advice to get AIM or YIM and add Lucan on them.  Failing that if you feel you need something addressed PM Lucan. He has been very very willing to talk to me about things and I am sure that it is less preferential treatment and more the fact that I have been vocal.

  • Hell, I feel spoiled. I haven't been booted from the RP yet despite some occasionally abysmal lag time on responses. So, no, I don't think you're favoring anyone at all ;)

  • I believe you are fair.

  • I feel my GM is fair and don't feel that he favors any particular player over the others.  Yes, I'm surprised by my answer too!  Look how far I've come!

  • No. All characters and players have a chance to shine and you do a good job balancing it out.

  • I feel that my GM is quite fair and reasonable in the parts of the story that I have been RPing with them.

  • You are fair though it would be impossible for you not to favor those who are knowledgeable and don't need much direction.  :P

  • I haven't seen any signs of favoritism.

  • I haven't noticed this at all.
Would you like to see graphics, maps or floor plans used more often, particularly in combat situations?
  • I absolutely love these and I would love to see more floor plans to further illustrate key areas of the ship that will have scenes role-played within them.  To me it is especially important to have some kind of visual aide for combat sequences.

  • Yes. Yes, yes, and yes again, if I haven't said it enough already, yes :)

  • Yes yes yes!

  • Yes indeed.  Situational awareness is essential in combat.  It's hard to know what is possible and what isn't when spatial relations don't exist.

  • They are a great tool to orient ourselves. I wouldn't go overboard but they are helpful.

  • I feel it might be wise t at some point create a layout for the Battle Bridge since the Starfleet ships being able to separate was a big point in the show and I feel it would be wise to have that layout should we ever need to split the ship in the story.

  • I do enjoy visual aids since my mind is usually not nearly as imaginative as it should be.

  • I'm really liking these graphics you've created. So, yes, I think they would help.

  • Oh yes!  I forgot to mention how much this helps and how much I like them.

"Probably my favorite character, probably cause she reminds me of a female data but with fully functioning emotions."
"One thing I loved about Voyager was the way the doctor grew as a person. Thea's doing the same. No complaints from me."
"I used to hate her but now I like her."

"Didn't really find him that interesting but it was okay role-playing out scenes with him knowing that his budding friendliness with X would come into play as a motivating factor for X's disgust with the Coux."
"I'll miss Cale, but you have too many NPC's to keep track of."

"Only fun thing about him was the avatar image."
"Can't wait to see him get what's coming to him."

"I don't really care bout her much to be honest I would like to see more of her acting on Risian culture showing that she is more than a mindless slut but that her openness to sexuality is a deep rooted part of her cultural identity.  Would like to see more of what makes Risians why they are the way they are."
"Like the avatar chosen, and seems like a fun character, no real interaction that I can recall."

"This entire section was hard to answer since you put so much effort in each of your characters.  It's hard to judge one over the others.  Looking at the scores I gave, it's obvious that the characters my characters interacted with are benefitting from favoritism."
On a scale of 1-10, 10 being best, rate your role-playing experience in the Star Trek: Theurgy Group RP. If you have no opinion, please say so. Also, can you think of what might make the Group RP score a rating of 10?

  • Possibly the best group RP I have ever been a part of.  As for what woudl make it better.  Not really sure aside for just keeping up the RP and us getting to the next episode and the episode after that and so on.  Really looking forward to seeing where the course of fate takes this crew.

  • Probably an 8 or 9. Its not perfect - I don't think a Group RP can ever be perfect. But it comes damn close. As to how to make that jump, I'm not really sure. Character retention, but there's nothing we can do about that.

  • So far Star Trek: Theurgy has been the best online role-playing experience I've encountered and I can't think of any advice to improve it.

  • Great writers and storytelling all around.

  • I would give this group an 9/10. It is by far the best group I have ever been in, but there is still plenty of room for improvement. Smaller characters have a risk of being swept aside in the story and if you do not come in at the beginning of a chapter you will likely feel out of place.

  • 10, all the way.

  • The writing is fantastic and I'm getting the hang of the threads.  At the risk of sounding like a dork or a prude, I'd say less gratuitous sex.  Not every plot has to have a sexual element.
Name one thing the next Episode should have more of.
  • Linearity. Would love to see this next episode have a more clear plot structure.  This one seemed to have like 5 different sub-plots, 3 different plot-threads and multiple rising actions and climaxes and even a few false climaxes.  Would love to see the next episode follow a more standard plot course of Exposition, Rising action, Conflict, Climax, Falling action, Resolution. This episode seemed like it was more like Exposition, Rising action of plot-thread 1, Conflict 1, Sub-conflict 1 and 2 begins, Climax of plot-thread 1, Plot-thread 2, Intro plot-thread 3, Foreshadowing, Sub-plots 3 and 4 introduced, and so on.  Frankly this really felt like it had the organizational structure of 3 or 4 episodes not 2 with all the sub-plots added in and the multiple conflicts.

  • Starfleet Personnel - I see the raid on the starbase as having a lot of potential for new crew.

  • More action perhaps, and smut, you can never go wrong with smut ^^

  • Action.  (Of course, this is from someone who joined during the 'stop and catch your breath' phase.)   A murder mystery would be fun too, but 24th century forensics makes them too easy to solve.

  • I do not know what the next chapter has in store, but I cannot think of  thing hat would fit with the story to include. Maybe more mingling of the crew?

  • The next Episode would be great if there were more plot twists and trickery.

  • I'd like to see the crew be forced to address all of the psychological trauma they've been through - maybe a prominent character could attempt suicide, perhaps mentioning the rapes he or she endured, or the battles?  Some major event that could get people more reflective and thinking about how they're coping with everything. I love the idea of the downtime the festival afforded.  Maybe more downtime without the sex fest. :-)

Name one thing the next Episode should have less of.
  • I would love to see less threat.  Would love to see an interesting obstacle but would like to see something where the crew isn't risking dying every 5 seconds.  Would also love them to actually make enough repairs that when we face our next big threat the Theurgy is at an operational state that the odds of survival aren't so unrealistic that I feel like we are cheating the game to survive.

  • Rape. As much as I actually enjoy the concept from a kink perspective, and have toyed with possibilities for Natalie (force impregnation is a kink of mine as well, and this current episode had a whole hell fo a lot of potential there), as we've discussed in the past, its a plot device that is being used a bit much, so I think we need to dial that one down.

  • Think the story is good as it goes now, there shouldn't be a decrease in anything particular.

  • Mind control.  So far the crew has experienced mind control in all three episodes.  It runs the risk of being used too often.

  • I do not think there is anything that needs to be stopped in the RPs.

  • Action. There has been a lot of tragedy happening and it might be nice to have a slightly mellower conflict, involving more thinking than doing.

  • Plot devices that result in gratuitous sex with multiple strangers. I'm not trying to bash the group.  As I said, I'm not afraid to tackle rape, male or female, or see characters having sex.  I just think if you're going to have people raped or suffer mind-control, there should be emotional consequences.

Comments? I will post my conclusions soon.
