Day 15 [0823 hrs] Starships Aplenty

Ensign Lauren Pierce | Holodeck 03 | Deck 21 | Vector 03 | USS Theurgy] Attn: @tongieboi [Show/Hide]

Lauren was tired after some random encounters lately. Between battles with the Klingons, the Gorn, being abducted and surviving without a sense of modesty at the hands of the Savi, she was tired. Work was slow while they were out for repairs. Her cybernetic hand was good as new with some new components added in the event they were needed in the future. Such as a hidden deactivated transponder, and combadge that could be compiled in a quick and dirty fashion for future events should the need arise.

But she'd bumped into a transporter operator whom she learned upon arrival back to the ship a week prior that he enjoyed time on the holodeck, and not to mention, Starships. Something that she too greatly enjoyed with the flight maneuvers she'd learned and the sleek styles that covered each one differently. One thing she'd never managed to hit was the Fleet Museum and the ships that were present there. Something that she'd wished she'd seen.

Her ancestor, Alana, had mentioned visiting the museum upon arrival in the 24th century and highly recommended seeing. So, Lauren with her thoughts wandering while she stood in her quarters decided now was as great a time as any to visit the place even if it were a facsimile on the holodeck with a fellow lover of starships.

Sending a message to Ensign Joe Adams was next on her list. She waltzed over to her console in her quarters and typed up a quick message to see if Joe wanted to meet with her at Holodeck 3 shortly if he had time to look at the various starships of various eras on display in the fleet museum with her.

After firing off the message, she decided to jump into some of her more comfortable clothing that she used to enjoy prior to being in Starfleet. A v-neck shirt, with the front wrap, akin to the old command green uniforms from the 23rd century in combo with her yoga pants for comfort and a nice pair of boots going half-way up her calf.

Finally settling on her look, appreciating the style she'd chosen, she headed off to the holodeck to meet him there.

Reclining in his quarters, Joe would have been content to relaxing there the entire day, where it not for the console pinging with an incoming message.

Turning from the model starship he was midway through assembling, he raised a pair of magnifying glasses from his head and headed to the console, leaning over his desk. Discarding the half built Miranda Class model for the moment.

Raising a brow for a moment as he read the message, he couldn't help but grin slightly. Finally, an excuse to leave his quarters. Whats more, a trip to a starship museum! Even if it was only a holographic copy, it was still one he had many fond memories of. He  found himself actually looking forward to the 'trip'

A small while later, he was changed and heading for the Holodeck, dressed in 'retro' footwear and casual black trousers. His shirt was white, with a faded insignia of some Andorian band, the shirt had been worn in his academy days and was at least five years old, so the rock band's name, 'Thin Ice', had begun to flake off and looked more like it read 'Hin Ir' at this point. Sure, it wasn't the most presentable shirt, but it was his favourite since 2372. And a birthday present. Which meant he wore it often, hence the faded design. Years of both his home and foreign suns had beaten down on that shirt.

His shoes, another birthday present, specifically replicated to imitate an old brand of shoes, did draw the odd glance of curiosity as he strode down the hall. Few shoes nowadays had any sort of branding on them after all.

Eventually arriving at the section containing the Holodeck arch, Joe let his gaze wander further down the corridor for any sign of Lauren. A slight smile of anticipation on his face as he walked onward, quickening his pace slightly as he neared his destination.

Lauren waited patiently outside of the Holodeck for her partner for the special outing. Part of her was really excited to be hanging out with someone who wasn't Tessa and was more low-key with their emotional state but part of her was really jazzed up for the opportunity to see so many old relics in the fleet museum. She tapped her foot slightly as if to an inaudible music she might have been humming or thinking of when she saw Ensign Joseph Adams arrive. The transporter tech with an affinity for starships as well.

"Hey Joe! Thanks for meeting me here on such short notice! I had been planning to visit this place and figured you might have fun checking it out too. I've honestly never been here before so this will be exciting. Alana told me about it recently and it piqued my interest."

Her smile glowed across her face as her crimson hair shined in the lighting of the corridors. Standing at the arch, she keyed in the command to open and the door made a mechanical sliding as it opened to the office of the fleet museum for check-in.

An older officer stood nearby and looked ready to give them a tour should the need arise. She wondered if the man had actually served on one of these relics.

"Are you ready? Do you have a place you'd like to start with or a specific ship class you enjoy more than the others?"

Joe seemed just as pleased. His smile mirroring her own. Once the large holodeck doors had slid open, it took an awful lot of self control to just stop himself bursting into the program like a dog let off a leash. Instead he walked calmly into the fleet museum, taking a moment to orient himself and recall the vaguely familiar surroundings. The museum had changed a lot from his childhood, but he still recognised a few key landmarks.

It had been quite a long time after all. He'd given the holographic museum officer a cursory glance before his attention was drawn back to the bright surroundings, only returning to focus on his immediate surroundings again once Lauren asked a question.

"Yeah, I'm ready"

He replied with a small nod, although he didn't have any preference for a specific ship class. There'd be time to look at everything, or so he believed. The museum was massive after all. It had to be to fit so many historic ships. Starfleet had a long history, so it made sense there was so much there...

"Tell you what, surprise me!"

He suggested brightly, shrugging his shoulders and grinning again. Curious to see where Lauren might lead him.

"Am I right in thinking this museum can be reprogrammed to withhold any starship in Starfleet's history?"

He wondered, taking a few idle steps further into the interior of the program. That made sense too. It was also one advantage to everything being procedurally generated by a computer instead of actually being real. The museum could hold pretty much any historic starship. Not just the ones that its real counterpart might contain.

She smiled knowing that their attention would soon be gathered to observe various starships. Pointing and tapping her index finger to her lips, she pondered what she wanted to peruse. She knew Alana preferred the Constitution Refit class starships, which she had to admit were beautiful as well.

Tapping the controls on the holodeck, she inputted what starship she wanted to see. The Enterprise-A. Constitution Refit, sleek lines and beautiful design.

"Got one! And yes, the holodeck can do just that. The official museums each have their specific starships to explore. The one I've chosen is the one with the most legendary starships of their class commanded by legendary leaders. My....great...great...grandmother? Long story, but she loves these vessels. Her original ship was even in another museum. Just not this one."

The doors opened and within the familiar sounds of the old training Constitution ships could be heard with some obvious omissions. It was not as roomy, nor colorful as the ships of the 2360's or the Excelsior class, but it had a style all it's own. Lauren walked up and saw the uniforms of that era which were of different collar colors and a red militaristic design that was beautiful all it's own.

"We could put these on if we wanted to be authentic." She giggled. "She wore this design too."

"This is the Enterprise, NCC-1701-A. Kirk's' ship. We can always check this one out or can go to the Bozeman."

Whistling at the sight of the Constitution class, he instinctively took a few steps forward. Brown eyes taking in the sheer size of the vessel. Even though their own vessel was many leagues as large, he still felt dwarfed by the Constitution.

"Wait, don't tell me...Top speed of Warp 7, about 23 decks, right?"

Opening his eyes and looking toward Lauren for approval, until his eyes fell on the uniforms as the doors opened, chuckling a little at the mannequins in the red uniforms, posed as if performing standard duties. He took to examining the red fabric closely. A hand lightly brushing across one of the mannequin's shoulders as if brushing lint from the holographic recreation.

"Oh, I remember these from my old posters! They used this uniform for ages... 80 years if I remember rightly. Yes, we might as well be authentic."

He agreed with a small nod, still grinning. his eyes now once again glancing over the starship interior as he sauntered further inside. Nearly missing her question in the process.

"I haven't memorised the schematics of the Connie yet, but there ought to be crew quarters or changing rooms not far from here. What deck is this?"

He continued to look around, now searching for any indication of where exactly they had boarded the ship.

"Oh, why is there never just a big sign with a number.."

He grumbled lightly to himself before finally, his brain caught up to his mouth and he whirled around to face Lauren again.

"Sorry, yes! The Bozeman? That's from about the same era, right? I mean originally."

Kirk's Enterprise was larger and arguably more famous, but the Bozeman, last he checked, was still in service.

"Your great, great grandmother had good taste. I'm a sucker for an Enterprise..."

He remarked, eventually seeming to reach a decision. Although they had plenty of time to check out both ships, right? That was his thought process anyway.

Lauren smirked at the admiration that Ensign Adams had for the ships. She had the same feeling to be honest despite not growing up in this era and simply having seen it in a museum and in trainings. She nodded to him about the speed and deck counts. "It was by far a legendary ship outside of the fact most since have been larger starting with Excelsior Classes. But I love the designs too!"

Looking onward, she could feel his fascination with the ship and the uniform of the era. She liked it too despite it not being all that comfortable looking compared to current attire.

Hearing the inquiry, she paused. "Deck 7 is the transporter room but decks 4 through 6 include crew quarters as does deck 17. It's really crazy what they had back then. Not a lot has changed since other than space and crew counts. I think we're on deck 13 which has the observation deck."

She giggled and held her hand to her face with redness as she caught herself as the question was posed about the sign with directions on it for location. "And it's not like today either where you can ask the computer. I mean we could technically but it lacks authenticity here."

"Yes, the Bozeman is from the 2270's and came into the 2360's time frame from a temporal fissure. But yeah, my great, great grandmother was on the original Enterprise after her refit but before it was destroyed. She later joined the USS Eagle..." Leaving out the rest of her ancestor's history is better there.

"Actually, I served on the Enterprise-E in 2374-2375. Before the drama of their final mission. But nothing beats this design in my opinion." She stated matter of factly.

"Anywhere in particular you want to explore? Or any history you want to lay out on me mister ship aficionado?" Giving a warm smile back to him as she stood back with her hands on her hips.

"Oh, so Enterprises run in the family then?"

He teased, a small grin on his face as he crossed his arms, finally standing still long enough to make eye contact with her again. Although it was clear from his body language that he was an inch away from bolting around again. So many starships and so little time.

Few things matched the Constitution in aesthetics, that was a popular opinion, he'd found. It didn't take him very long before he came to a decision.

"Well, we're here now, we might as well start with the Enterprise. Then we could check out the Bozeman?"

He suggested, although he wondered if Lauren had suggested the Bozeman because it was nearby or if she was genuinely curious about the ship. It was hard to choose really, out of however many ships Starfleet had churned out over the years. (Although judging by the registry numbers, they were somewhere near 70,000 by now)

"You want to be authentic then?"

He asked, gesturing to the bright red uniforms. He supposed they'd change depending on the era of ship they would wear. He didn't mind that at all, really, except perhaps the uniform from the 2350s. The one before last, it seemed like it'd be uncomfortable. Much too tight. Realising he was letting his mind wander again, he lightly slapped the mannequin with the uniform, leaning against it a little.

"I've always wondered if I could pull off this look."

He mused, this was the uniform his grandfather had probably worn aboard the Ambassador after all.

Lauren Pierce stood amidst the dimly lit corridors of the Starfleet Museum, her eyes tracing the sleek lines of the starship. Joe’s teasing grin tugged at her lips, and she tilted her head, considering his question.

“Indeed,” she replied, her voice carrying a hint of pride. “My great-grandmother served on the original USS Enterprise—NCC-1701. Captain James T. Kirk’s era.” Lauren’s eyes sparkled with reverence. The legacy of that ship was etched into the fabric of Starfleet history—the voyages, the discoveries, the battles. It was more than a starship; it was a symbol of exploration and courage. The Constitution-class model stood there, its saucer section elegant and timeless. Few things matched its aesthetics, and she agreed with Joe—it was a popular opinion.

“The flagship,” she said softly. “A beacon of hope across the stars.” But then her mind shifted to the Bozeman—a smaller ship, less celebrated, but no less significant. “And the Bozeman," she added, “lost in time, emerging centuries later.”

Joe’s question about authenticity made her chuckle. The bright red uniforms—the iconic Starfleet attire—beckoned. “Authenticity,” she echoed. “Why not?”
Lauren stepped closer to the mannequin, her fingers brushing the fabric. The 2280-2350s uniform—the snug fit, the bold colors—was a relic of a different era. “I’ve always wondered if I could pull off this look,” she admitted. Her great grandfa-mother, a seasoned officer, had worn something similar aboard the Eagle.

The changing room was a dimly lit alcove tucked away in the corner of the museum's room. Lauren Pierce, her reflection framed by the light, stood before the mirror. The white turtleneck lay across her forearm, pristine and promising. She had always admired the elegance of Starfleet uniforms—the way they blended formality with adventure. With a sense of anticipation, she unbuttoned her jacket, the fabric sliding off her shoulders. The red undershirt clung to her skin, as she began to pull it over her head. Lauren hesitated, her fingers grazing the edge of the turtleneck. Would it fit? Would it feel right?

The bra straps held her incredible bust firm on her chest as she shivered slightly. The changing room held a hushed reverence, as if it knew the weight of history that rested upon her. She glanced at the hook where the uniform hung—the red jacket, its hue deep and commanding. A commander’s insignia adorned the shoulder and wrists, a silent promise of authority and responsibility.

Lauren pulled on the turtleneck, the fabric cool against her chest. It hugged her curves, tailored to perfection. She adjusted the collar, feeling the weight of tradition settle around her neck. The mirror reflected her transformation—the woman who had once been an ensign was now poised to step onto a 23rd-century starship. The jacket followed—the reddened armor of command. Lauren slid her arms into the sleeves, the material rustling. The cut was sharp, the lines were clean. She turned, examining herself from every angle. The mirror revealed more than fabric; it revealed possibility. The universe awaited, and she was ready.

The style exuded confidence—the kind that could navigate nebulae and negotiate peace treaties. Lauren straightened her posture, her eyes meeting their reflection. The woman in the mirror was more than Lauren Pierce; she was a legacy, a dreamer, a seeker of the unknown. As she fastened the jacket, Lauren felt the weight of her great-grandmother’s stories—the Constitution-class Refit ship, the adventures, the camaraderie. She had worn something similar, she knew. Her spirit sailed with her now, urging her forward.

Lauren Pierce—posing as a commander, explorer, guardian of the stars—stepped out of the changing room. The museum’s exhibits beckoned, and beyond them, the real ships waited. Enterprise or Bozeman? Kirk or Bateson? It didn’t matter. She was part of the continuum—a beautiful woman in a red jacket, ready to write her own chapter among the constellations.

"What do you think?" She asked teasingly as she twirled in her uniform.

"Lost in time, eh? That sounds like an interesting story. You'll have to tell it sometime?"

He suggested with a smile before he took a final look at the uniform he was about to wear.

Joe was first out of his own alcove, but by no means did that mean he was fast. He'd taken his sweet time adjusting the collar of his uniform so it didn't chafe quite so much. Still, like her, there was a more metaphorical weight on his shoulders the second he clipped shut his jacket over his shoulder. This was an important age for Starfleet, not in small part due to the people in it.

In an operations uniform (Old habits die hard after all), his scarlet uniform, instead of the white collar and iconography of command, sported a more beige colour. Joe couldn't, however resist inflating his rank. Just a bit. Bearing the insignia of a Lieutenant Commander on the shoulder strap that held his jacket over his uniform.

Even if he hadn't given himself a slight leg up on his rank, he still had a distant feeling that he was some sort of Imposter, or a child playing dress-up, rather than a Starfleet Officer. This was identical to the uniform his grandfather had worn, save for the division colours. He could almost see him now, battling Klingons, discovering new life. A rush of stories from his memory filled his minds eye, alongside his child self’s imaginative recreations of these events.

Shaking himself out of his own thoughts as he stepped out of his changing room, he smoothed down the uniform. Soon turning to Lauren at the sound of her voice, asking for his opinion.

"Very retro. Cool."

He replied, grinning. He was always a sucker for the classics, almost as much as he was for an Enterprise.

"It matches your hair."

He noticed, gesturing to the bright red uniform she was now sporting, then her locks.

“What about me?”

He asked, even giving her a small twirl so she could take in the entire uniform, despite the fact that they were wearing the same thing.

"It is rather retro but interesting, to say the least. I will have to see if my ancestor would mind the story, as that Pierce is still alive through a freak accident." Deciding to change the subject some, she heard the comment about the uniform matching her hair which caused her face to also change shade to match as she blushed. "T-thank you." She said cutely as she looked down momentarily admiring the thought.

Lauren smiled and giggled as he did the twirl of the uniform too. "Very handsome." She smiled warmly with a glint of appreciation and a twinkle in her eye for Joseph's enjoyment of the moment as much as herself.

Pierce stepped out of the dressing area and into the corridor of the USS Enterprise, displayed in all its glory, took their breath away. The ship was meticulously restored, every detail preserved to reflect its storied past. “Wow. It’s even more magnificent than I imagined.” She was captivated. “It’s like stepping into history. So many legendary missions started right here.”

They walked towards the entrance ramp, where a holographic guide greeted them. “Welcome to the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A. Please follow the guided path to explore key areas of the ship.” She nodded as the hologram took them around despite not being summoned. But she guessed that had something to do with the fact she used the holodeck to summon the Starfleet Museum and not the ship itself.

Their first stop was the bridge. As they entered, the familiar layout of the command center came into view. The captain’s chair, the helm, and the various stations around the perimeter were all exactly as they had seen in countless historical records. The old-styled neon green pre-LCARS setup was fascinating. She brushed her fingers on the helm controls which weren't digital but little buttons and nobs with a few touch pads on them, as well as a joystick in the event it needed that sort of precision. "I love this ship.” She said with giddy enthusiasm. "You should check out the captain's chair, Captain Adams!” She said with a smirk of excitement.

A slight bashful grin and perhaps a small flush of his own at the compliment, Joe nodded at her complement. Very satisfied with how he looked, he followed her towards the ship and inside. Paying no mind to the signs yet somehow finding his way to the bridge anyway.

Brown eyes keenly took in every detail of their surroundings, as if this was his first time aboard a starship, before they settled on the door ahead, wooshing open to reveal the bridge of the Enterprise,

Joe sauntered inside, drawn to the familiar sight of an Ops console, albeit with less touchpads and more physical controls in their place. He almost missed the idea, there was something strangely satisfying about buttons and dials that touchscreens didn't quite replace. Where Theurgy was a sleek and elegant design, as much a work of art as she was functional the Enterprise was a product of her time. Antiquated and retro to some, solely functional, but by no means any less elegant than her  many times great granddaughters. All one had to do was look deeper than the aesthetics alone.

At Lauren's voice, he looked up and turned around suddenly, shook out of his thoughts, he'd already started fiddling with the controls of the ship. They wouldn't do anything anyway, right?

"Don't mind if I do, Captain Pierce!"

He replied, smirking back and walking towards the Captain's seat. She'd given him the rank of Captain, despite his uniform, so he decided to return the favour.

It was strangely smaller than he expected, not exactly cramped but certainly not as large as a lot of the other chairs he'd sat in. The arms of the chair might've been why, they protruded from the bottom of the seat and made quite a blocky shape. His arms could go nowhere except the armrests, which themselves had small control panels upon them.

The second he sat down in the chair, a small part of him felt like an imposter, but it was very much dwarfed by the fact that he was sitting in the Captain's Chair of the Enterprise. Holographic recreation or not, it was still awesome!

"It's less comfortable than I expected."

He mused with a small grin before kicking off with his feet and spinning the chair around, getting a good look at the bridge as he rotated in its centre in a manner unbecoming of a Starfleet Captain.

Lauren Pierce couldn't help but smile as she watched Ensign Joseph Adams explore the bridge of the Enterprise with childlike wonder. His bashful grin and slight flush at her compliment were endearing, and she felt a sense of pride as he confidently made his way to the captain's chair.

“Enjoying yourself, Captain Adams?” Lauren called out, her voice light and playful. She noticed his fascination with the Ops console, a reminder of the simpler times when physical controls reigned supreme. The tactile satisfaction of pressing buttons and turning dials was something she too missed occasionally.

When Joe replied, "Don't mind if I do, Captain Pierce!" and took his seat in the captain's chair, Lauren couldn't help but chuckle. She watched him spin around, taking in the bridge from all angles. His observation about the chair's discomfort made her laugh.

“The Enterprise may not have the luxury of Theurgy, but she has her charm,” she said, moving closer to join him at the center of the bridge. “This ship represents an era of discovery and adventure, something we still hold dear in Starfleet today. I just wish we had the opportunity to explore it again.” She said with a hint of sadness hoping to one day get back to that time. She also secretly hoped to pilot one of these vessels someday too.

Lauren's brown eyes scanned the familiar surroundings of the holographic recreation, appreciating the retro elegance of the ship. She turned her attention back to Joe, who was still soaking in the experience.

“You know, sitting in that chair doesn’t make you an imposter. It makes you a part of this ship’s legacy, even if it’s just a holodeck simulation. Every Starfleet officer who steps onto this bridge carries forward the spirit of exploration and duty.”

She placed a hand on the back of the captain's chair and smiled at Joe. “Ready to set a course, Captain Adams? I hear there's a new sector begging to be explored.”

At her words, he couldn't help but raise a slight brow, craning his neck to look at the Martian behind him. How had she been able to tell what he was thinking at that moment?

"What, are you a mind reader?"

He asked, a wry grin tugging at his lips. Had he been that obvious with what was on his mind? Or perhaps she was thinking something similar?

"I'm not sure the holographic museum would appreciate a joyride, but if Kirk can get away with it..."

He mused, turning his attention directly in front of him. To the great beyond that stretched out in front of them on the viewscreen ahead.

"I suppose straight ahead would be as good an idea as any."

He just hoped there was no chance of hologram Starfleet chasing them, the real thing had been traumatic enough! Looking down at the Captains controls embedded within his armrest, and after wondering how one didn't accidentally press one of the buttons whilst resting their arm or elbow against it, he began to decipher their purpose.

"I don't suppose any of these happen to be helm controls embedded in the chair, would they?"

It would be a tad anticlimactic, if after Lauren's encouraging speech, he'd have to get out of the chair anyway to fly the bloody thing out of the museum. His fingers hovered over the controls for a moment as he decided which of these buttons he'd have to press first. The ship still needed its moorings released and who knows what else? Did they need to stock holographic provisions too?

'Nah, the trip probably wouldn't last that long.' He reasoned to himself as he pressed the button he thought most resembled what he was after.
