Interregnum 01-02 S2 / Re: Day 09 [15:30 hrs,] Once Upon the Island
Last post by Ellen Fitz -
[ Lt. Cmdr. Cross | Pirate vessel qu'DuHSum | BIQ'a'bIng Ocean | Unnamed Island | Qo’Nos] Attn: @P.C. Haring

The world was rocking, and at first, Cross attributed it to the fact that a Klingon troll had hit him in the head. But then, in quick succession like a holovid, the events leading up to his injury played out in his mind’s eye, leaving Cross to guess as to why he was now lying in a bed and not still sprawled on the deck of the Klingon pirate vessel.

“Hathev?” Hand instinctively going to his head, fingers brushing over the still tender skin of where the wound had once been, Cross sat up. Looking around the small room, spotting the woman didn’t take long. Seeing the confiscated clothing covering her flesh, Cross smirked. “It suits you. Now, did you carry me here, or did that oaf of a Klingon captain drag my ass in here to have his way with me when you intercepted him?” He doubted his effort at humor would be correctly interpreted by the woman still working to connect with her emotions, but he offered it nonetheless to let her know he was himself and recovering. “Did you get a chance to check our heading? If we head back towards the pier where we left in this old bucket, we should get there by tomorrow morning.”

Swinging his legs over the edge of the bed, Cross took his time to stand. Although whatever treatment Hathev had given him had taken the edge off the pain and sped up the healing process, he’d still lost enough blood to feel woozy until he could get some food and water in him again.

“Have you seen if they have any food? Water?” Glancing down at his nude state versus her dressed one, he smirked. “Any trousers?”

“Only a broken jaw? Yeah, she was just teasing you, mate.” Cross chuckled at the mental image of a horny Klingon woman taking a swing at Lok. “As for our escapade at the museum, no we didn’t get into trouble. We didn’t start it, and we certainly didn’t finish it. Tried to get out of it and ended up being in the middle of it sort of thing. I don’t think any of our diplomats were required to smooth things over.”

The server returned to collect the empty plates and cups. Cross sipped at the water he’d set aside earlier, mulling over Lok’s self-description as a grease monkey.

“There are a lot of tours on Qo’Nos that are open to be taken by anyone. I certainly wasn’t sent to the museum in a delegation or anything. Just explored on my own. Next time we’re in port somewhere, you should go planetside in your free time. No need to wait until you’re sent to explore new places.”

Eyes darting over what he could see of the Kzin Cross cocked his head to the side, “Do you not like fighting? I mean grappling for the sake of training and exercise. And I’m not trying to come off as an obtuse git, assuming you’d relish a good fight because of your size. I would assume you have some basic hand-to-hand skills, given its standard for Starfleet training, but then again, assuming could make me out to be an ass.”

[Hirek tr’Aimne | Personal Quarters |  D. 17 |  USS Theurgy ] Attn: @Sqweloookle

“Against the law?” Hirek chuckled. “How quaint.” Tipping his head to the side, he grinned, “I’ll make sure you get some. Ale, of course, among other things if you have a desire for it.” He nodded to the suggestion of the wine. While he’d had non-Romulan food and beverages before, his exposure to Federation-based cuisine was quite limited. He commented as such as the food appeared and both men were able to return to the table to eat. “I will find it most amusing if this Uttaberry wine has some sort of adverse effect on me.” He tasted the food, and while it was disappointingly far from what he knew it would do. “If I say or do anything untoward after this, I suppose we can blame the wine.”

Hirek let silence lapse between them as both men tucked into the meal. The physical had been less invasive than if his own people had conducted it, were the roles reversed. He could only assume that the counseling session would likewise be a laughable affair, for a Romulan’s expectations at least.

“Why healing?” Hirek asked after a moment more of silence. “Is it connected to your species’ unique abilities or something else?” Satisfied with what he’d had of the meal, Hirek pushed the plate away and leaned back in his chair. “Growing up on the islands, I’ve always found zoology and botany fascinating, and with the family going back many generations in the ale-making business, chemistry likewise became like second nature to me. My nature being as it is, adjusting, restyling, and engineering systems and things also brings me a sense of purpose. Neither of my parents demanded I become something in particular, except successful at whatever it was I did decide to do.”

[Ens Victor "Corsair" vanVinter]  Erudite crew quarters | Hobus system ATTN: @RyeTanker @Eden @ob2lander961 @Dree

A smirk crossed Victor's ghoulish visage once he'd finally registered Via's energy; the shorter woman had an energy that made her seem larger than life and far more diminutive than his lanky form. She was amusing and brought some levity to a shitty situation. Good, that was needed right now; maybe that kind of energy would save them all, perhaps it would doom them all, but there would be fireballs all around; that much was certain.

Victor gave a considering look to Ida and Callax, pondering for just a moment. "No promises on the shuttle, Sirs; I mean, I WORKED on the Valkyries for the final shakedowns of the airframe. I know their maximum tolerances, But I'll do what I can; I'm good enough for that. But It'll probably mean the shuttle will need a full overhaul after."

That was his optimistic assessment with that. Chances were good that whatever he did to the shuttle, it was bound to shit the bed at the end of the flight, leaving it a near wreck, but so long as it could get up to Warp after. But that's what this mission called for, a curious look given to both of the Lieutenants; he'd do what he could for the shuttle but had to make the superiors aware there would be consequences. Knowing what he did about small craft flight systems, power, and engines, the experienced former knucklebuster knew what he could do. There was a whole community out there that tuned shuttlecraft for racing, but those involved custom parts and firmware, this would be a dirty hack, overrides, and mechanical tinkering. Increasing the plasma flow rate and the intermix rate in the core could help, and retuning the shields for a more dynamic flight profile, he could get it to push the envelope. The flight controls would be sluggish, and the inertial dampeners wouldn't be much use.

"Frankly, This is one of those 'ask forgiveness' situations, Sirs. The shuttle won't match a Valkyrie, but give me some time, and I can give it great straight-line accelerations and nothing else. Just expect to begin blowing systems out after more than an hour of flight time. I can make that bus into a drag racer, but it won't be pretty after, and before you ask, yeah, it might blow up. And whoever's in that shuttle, know that you'll be feeling as much as 3g's of acceleration at all times, possibly as much as 12. It won't be a smooth ride for the team in the shuttle."

He thought for a moment about the rest of that and slowly shook his head, waiting for permission to do what he needed before rushing off to the hangar to get his hands dirty. The appearance of Alistair wasn't expected, and seeing the Temporal Specialist on hand made a chill run down his spine for some reason; the man looked grim, the exact sort of opposite energy that Via had given him. It couldn't be helped though, they all had a job to do.

[CPO Avandar Lok | Counseling Offices | Deck 13 | Vector 03 | USS Theurgy] Attn: @Juzzie
[Show/Hide]

Lok did not notice Rhys admiring his form, after saying what he had to say, his eyes sort of wandered off to staring at the model of some ship once again as he waited for the counselor to say, or possibly not say, anything. The model ship was an Excelsior Class, he couldn’t quite see the name from where he was sitting, L-something, and unlike some people he was not a walking encyclopedia of registry numbers. At least someone appreciates the classics, he thought to himself with an inward smile, so many people these days were interested in the newest fastest thing.

He stared at it some more, waiting for Rhysd to respond to his emotional avalanche, when he was suddenly jarred back to reality by the gentle touch of a hand resting on his thigh. Looking down he saw that the hand was Rhys’s. His batwing-like ears immediately perked up to their full height with curiosity; and his tail, which had hitherto been dangling over the right arm of the chair, started to slowly and somewhat sensually sway from side to side in its own form of feline curiosity. He refocused on the situation.

Lok felt oddly rejuvenated by this man’s touch, granted any form of physical intimacy that wasn’t simply a friendly slap on the back or getting punched in the jaw, had become quite foreign to the large Kzinti. By his own choice of course, wrapped in his own depression as he felt like the world was passing him by. Had he really been so shut off that a simple sympathetic touch could so easily catch him off guard, he wondered? No, there was more to it, not just sympathy, but…arousal. It was currently subtle but unmistakable, going beyond just a simple feeling of attraction as Lok had noted earlier. This feeling of course also helped to excite Lok as well and with his curiosity piqued at what Rhys would do next he made no motion to remove the man’s hand from his thigh.

Idle curiosities and carnal distractions or no, Lok was here for a reason and while he was absorbed in studying Rhys, the counselor inquired further on Lok’s feelings of selfishness.

“I don’t know”, Lok responded, “I guess it just seems selfish of me to think my feelings have more weight than somebody else’s. I mean in the grand scheme of things while I’ve lost some things it’s not as if I had some grand life before all this, just another grease monkey in the fleet among thousands.” He leaned on the arm of the chair a bit, moving slightly closer to Rhys, his sensitive nose picking up pleasing scents coming from the man that tried to distract him from their conversation.

“I lost my family, sure, but it’s not like I see them very often…hell had it not been for some screwup in the shipyard I’d still be on Perseus, hundreds of light years away and wouldn’t have seen them in person for two or even three more years. But I’m upset about it and yet we’ve got fresh faced Academy graduates and rookie crewmen who probably were a lot closer to their families than I was with mine.”

"Like I said, I'm just an old grease monkey who knows how to fix a plane."

Old, he was not even forty yet.

Alternate Universe Stories / A Backstory of the Teslyliac People
Last post by AbsintheDeux -
Because of the nature of these events being unapproved and really just the overly complicated backstory for the Teslyliac race, it should be seen as more of my own personal head-canon. Anyway, I figured I may as well finally write this all out and share it, enjoy~

---

Though there had been a number of survey missions to the region, the lack of intelligent life meant that it was not until a routine mission to catalog flora and fauna on the planet of Yoeshina IV that a civilian scientist discovered the Teslyliac plant and the first known recorded Teslyliac duplicate, a small rodent species that the plant used for spread far and wide.

The civilian scientist, Niander Octavian, isolated the plant after studying the rodent species and noticing some members of the race had fur in bright colors and scans showed those specific members of the species were not in fact the same species as the others.

After a week of observation he discovered the plant and shortly after the mechanism for duplication. With limited time to study on the planet, Niander decided to push the limits. He used a small vial of blood, an old family heirloom, and poured the blood onto the flower of the plant. After fearing it had not worked for a few days, he was amazed to discover a rapidly growing melon-like structure on the third day. He watched over the next two weeks as the plant grew a large melon.

The first duplicate created was surprisingly innocent and naive, Niander called her Hera Saugn, named for the woman whose blood had been used and the Greek goddess.

Afterward, Niander moved quickly to harvest the plant that had created Hera and a number of others. The plant that had created Hera was dubbed T01 while the others were T02-05. T01 would become the basis for his further research while he left T02-T05 in stasis until they were needed.

The first research outpost was built on a desolate world not far from a trade route. Plant T01 was spliced and 9 additional plants were created from cuttings from it. From the 9 plants, a new batch of duplicates was created. All the while Niander worked with Hera and she learned quickly.

9 variations of the DNA that created Hera were generated from a blood synthesis machine and the 9 plants were exposed. Niander experimented with implanting memories into these 9 to see which would take and which of the variations would work to make a new and stronger breed of Teslyliac duplicate, as Hera was not just developing quickly, her life cycle seemed to be accelerated too. This new batch would fix this issue of deteriorating genetics.

Of the 9 only 7 successfully survived the melon stage and entered their early development, of those 7 only 3 survived into full development.

Shortly after the 3 became self-aware and began training there was a fire at the research outpost and everything was lost. Niander managed to salvage Hera, who was badly injured, and T01 from the fire, but the rest was assumed lost. He would only learn later that the 3 surviving duplicates were picked up by Starfleet and began their own lives. He vowed to eventually check in on them.

He would return then to Octavian Headquarters and begin work on his new project. After his success with Bio-Neural Gel-Packs, he was given a lot of leeway to work on any project he desired, so he threw himself into the Teslyliac Project. Hera would be kept alive by being linked to the root systems of nearly a hundred Teslyliac plants. She would seem to change then and would drift in and out as her mind fully joined with the mycelial network that her brain was connected to.

As Hera lost herself to the network she joined the minds of all the Teslyliac through the network.

At the same time, Niander began a program to place a new batch of duplicates for the express purpose of aiding Starfleet. His goal was to put an asset on each and every ship in the fleet.

It was through Hera that he would then learn of the infestation in key personnel, Lahkesis knew, so Hera knew and since Hera knew, Niander would find out.

He was beginning to prepare his own counter-offensive when things changed again, Lahkesis died and his asset on the Theurgy was gone. He decided to work on a new prototype to send to the Theurgy. This new creation was dubbed Artimis and at the first opportunity, she was sent to the Theurgy.

While he was working on Artimis, Niander became increasingly obsessed with the whispered words of Hera when she slipped from her lucid moments and whispered visions she saw through the network. He heard of the darkness sweeping across space and war coming.

---

At some point during his research treaty negotiations with the Romulans allowed for scientific exchange and as a result, Niander was permitted to exchange a Teslyliac plant for the latest Romulan genetic sequencing technology. The Romulans would begin developing their own duplicate shortly after and the first duplicate not created from the line of T01, called the Hera Line, was created. This first duplicate was more a prototype or proof of concept and named Nahir.

Nahir is oddly enough the first to be grown from a planet that had never generated a humanoid before and thus was the same naive and trusting child Hera was, but while Hera was turned into a kind woman and eventually an oracle, Nahir would become a weapon.

[ Lt. JG Callax Valin | Mekro'vak Region | Qo'noS ] Attn: @Ellen Fitz
[Show/Hide]
Cal could do naught but freeze in place and blink as a klingon woman tied a tassel on his thigh, lecherously running against his flaccid length with her hands from beneath his own tunic. Her hands were not well moisturized and the Starfleet officer was grateful that a slight brush was all that had occurred, especially considering the desirous look she gave him as she eyed his extremities. Once the woman had withdrawn, he looked to Enyd for any indication of what the hell was happening. To his dismay, she did not.

“He had better explai–” His words were cut short by the arrival of none other than the man himself who handed them glasses of clean water. Perhaps the only civil thing he had received all day. Cal was about to firmly inquire as to what was going on when Rik’evet began to explain. He met Enyd’s eyes with a look that was half-concern and half-curiosity as the klingon elder continued to describe the bl’reS nalqaD ritual. This was a diplomat’s domain, cultural exchange and all, and thus he was glad to let Enyd take the lead on it. It was definitely not because he was still stunned speechless.

“...I am curious if it could be arranged for the victorious one to have a token in addition to the honor…and right to mate.”

The addition caused Cal to perk a brow. His expression did not change, even as Rik’evet let out a boisterous laugh.

“If you both agree to this, I can guarantee you won’t walk away empty-handed. And, to assist you both in this, I do have a tonic you can drink that will boost your vitality and ease your aches.” Rik’evet said, adding, “I’ll go get the tonic and leave you to discuss.”

“What do you say to an encore?”

Cal waited for the elder klingon to walk out of earshot before responding. “I much prefer my climaxes in a more private setting, but I will not have it spread here on Qo’noS that a Valin was unwilling to take up a challenge. That said, give me a moment to think on it.”

Rik’evet arrived a moment later with two cups filled with a thick brown liquid, handing it to the pair of them. Cal took a deep pull from the cup, ignoring the strong stench of rotting herbs that smelled like Ricola mixed with horseradish. His body metabolized the liquid quickly and almost instantly he felt an increase in energy and pain diminish. As foul as it tasted, Cal made a mental note to ask Rik’evet for the recipe before departing the planet. If he departed. At this rate, that was still a question to be answered.

Cal took a step back from the klingon and looked to Enyd. “Well, I have thought on it and–” Without warning, the Ardanan lunged forward to tackle Enyd, his right shoulder aimed squarely at her midriff in a tackle designed to bring her to the ground. The move, if successful, would position his head just to the side of her right thigh, close to where the tassel was tied. It was a dirty move but it was also a dirty ritual. Rik’evet had not said there were rules beyond the necessity to get the tassel with their teeth. To Cal, that meant everything else was permitted and he was not one for losing.

[ Major Sareth | Deck 20 | Aboard the Tal’Shiar Ihnerha Faehht Emaifha Laeosa Mniohr (Tal’Shiar Second Secret Disease and Weapons Research Space Station) |  Romulan Space, approximately 24ly from Romulus ] @BipSpoon @Stegro88 @Nesota Kynnovan @Number6 @Dree

He found it most fascinating that a mere day after they’d finished their drills for a station breach, they’d been truly breached. Sareth had felt the jolt of the Starfleet ramming into the station, and so knew that this was no mere drill. He’d already been in the process of ordering everyone in his sector to arm themselves and switch on the Hvei’khenn units when the orders came in from Riov Vrikol himself to do that very thing. Sareth distinctly remembered the bloody the Hvei’khenn unit had made of the Nausicaan test subjects they’d pitted against it in its trial runs. He didn’t look forward to cleaning up the mess the unit would make of any unauthorized personnel it came across. Still, such messes were necessary when guarding the type of technology they had aboard this station.

Sareth paused in his movements when he heard Vrikol speak on the overhead.

[ Our station has been breached by Starfleet personnel. They are here to steal from us, to destroy us; we cannot let them. All station personnel are to remain armed and on the alert. Do not attempt to question the intruders. Incapacitate them in whatever manner necessary. Once you capture them, take them to the commander center for that deck for further processing. Do not abandon your stations; do not give up ground. ]

Sareth smiled, catching similar smiles of confidence from the men and women around him. A few smiles turned into looks of confusion when Vrikol continued, this time in Federation Standard.

[ We know you are here, Starfleet. We are hunting for you, and we will find you. ]

Sareth understood it plainly enough and happily translated for those who didn’t know, garnering another round of smiles. His personal PADD beeped, and Sareth glanced down to see the clearance for the Ghalai toxin. None of them were in danger, but for those Starfleet vermin seeking to steal from them, they would be very, very soon.

For reference, the neurotoxin is scentless and tasteless and spinning images and sensations into victims minds and leaving them temporarily mad and thoroughly incapable of fighting back. And the attack and defense units are this

“Damage report.” Riov Vrikol growled as he leaned over the shoulder of the Uhlan manning the monitoring station.

“The Starfleet vessel has embedded itself in the station, breaching the hull on decks 27 through 32. Automatic seals have been activated, and we are no longer leaking atmosphere.”

Sublieutenant Mensil called Vrikol’s attention, “There are reports of Starfleet infiltrators attempting to bypass the seals near the breach.” She frowned, looking more closely at her monitor before adding. “There also appears to be an anomalous energy fluctuation in the right-wing maintenance corridor of sector 3, deck 12.” Even as she spoke, more reports came in, and as she quickly read them, Vrikol watched her cheeks tinge green in frustration. “The Starfleet personnel have set their warp core to breach.”

Vrikol smiled. This particular group of foolhardy Starfleet personnel seemed to have come to play hard. He appreciated that.

“Send the Aehallh drones to surround the ship and emit the saeihr pulse. Their warp cores are not so drastically different from our own that the pulse won’t delay the breach enough for the Efw'khelh drones to dislodge it from the station and direct it deeper into the asteroid field.” He waited until the Uhlans received these orders and relayed them before continuing. “Order all decks to brace for the shock wave the breach will cause. Sublieutenant, order the Hvei'khenn A&D units to be brought fully online. I want them prowling the decks for any unwanted visitors. I doubt Starfleet expects to meet them, nor know how to deal with them.”

Vrikol moved toward the communications console, “I want a station-wide broadcast.” He waited for the Uhlans signal before speaking in Romulan, “Our station has been breached by Starfleet personnel. They are here to steal from us, to destroy us; we cannot let them. All station personnel are to remain armed and on the alert. Do not attempt to question the intruders. Incapacitate them in whatever manner necessary. Once you capture them, take them to the commander center for that deck for further processing. Do not abandon your stations; do not give up ground.”

Vrikol was satisfied to know that all personnel had just finished a lengthy drill on this very scenario: station breach. Every deck could function independently, and each of the wings could be disconnected if necessary, operating under its own set of impulse engines. Theirs was not simply a single station but a collection of stations, a mass of capable and deadly vessels that could be maneuvered at a moment's notice. Not only that but only station personnel authorized for that particular deck or sector could safely pass through the dozens of bioscanners attached to automatic defense systems. Systems that were now very activated and ready to take down unauthorized targets.

He held up a hand to stay the Uhlan from terminating the broadcast. Leaning closer to the microphone, Vrikol spoke in heavily accented Standard so the intruders could understand. “We know you are here, Starfleet. We are hunting for you, and we will find you.” Giving the Uhlan a nod, Vrikol stood up to his full height.

“I think this is the opportunity Doctor Vrojos was hoping for,” he nodded to the sublieutenant, “inform the doctor that he has clearance to release the Ghalai toxin across the station at his discretion.” Vrikol’s smile grew as he imagined the Starfleet personnel, unaware of the scentless and tasteless neurotoxin as it took hold, spinning images and sensations into their minds and leaving them temporarily mad and thoroughly incapable of fighting back. All station personnel were inoculated against it, but for anyone uninvited, it was just a traditional sort of Romulan greeting to such as those.

So, yeah, y'all had better work fast and keep the heat off the Blue team for success. A reference image for their attack and defense units.

Ensign Lauren Pierce | Holodeck 03 | Deck 21 | Vector 03 | USS Theurgy] Attn: @tongieboi [Show/Hide]

Lauren smirked at the admiration that Ensign Adams had for the ships. She had the same feeling to be honest despite not growing up in this era and simply having seen it in a museum and in trainings. She nodded to him about the speed and deck counts. "It was by far a legendary ship outside of the fact most since have been larger starting with Excelsior Classes. But I love the designs too!"

Looking onward, she could feel his fascination with the ship and the uniform of the era. She liked it too despite it not being all that comfortable looking compared to current attire.

Hearing the inquiry, she paused. "Deck 7 is the transporter room but decks 4 through 6 include crew quarters as does deck 17. It's really crazy what they had back then. Not a lot has changed since other than space and crew counts. I think we're on deck 13 which has the observation deck."

She giggled and held her hand to her face with redness as she caught herself as the question was posed about the sign with directions on it for location. "And it's not like today either where you can ask the computer. I mean we could technically but it lacks authenticity here."

"Yes, the Bozeman is from the 2270's and came into the 2360's time frame from a temporal fissure. But yeah, my great, great grandmother was on the original Enterprise after her refit but before it was destroyed. She later joined the USS Eagle..." Leaving out the rest of her ancestor's history is better there.

"Actually, I served on the Enterprise-E in 2374-2375. Before the drama of their final mission. But nothing beats this design in my opinion." She stated matter of factly.

"Anywhere in particular you want to explore? Or any history you want to lay out on me mister ship aficionado?" Giving a warm smile back to him as she stood back with her hands on her hips.
