Day 11 [ 2000 hrs.] Starlight, Starbright

[  Lt. Enyd Isolde Madsen | Deck 10 | Observation Lounge | USS Theurgy ] Attn: @rae

Armed with a plate full of nuts and dried berries, a steaming cup of herbal tea, and an honest-to-goodness pencil and paper journal, Enyd sat alone nearest the observation window. At the end of her shift, Enyd had quickly done a calisthenics routine in her quarters, showered, and changed to a loose fitted white button-down blouse tucked into high waisted herringbone-patterned palazzo pants, with her hair neatly tucked into a loose bun. Now she was staring into the maw of space, thoughts askew, and thankful she had no pressing need to scurry away from the table. With the way things were shaping up recently, Enyd needed the time and space to catalog her thoughts, shape them into coherent sentences, and share them with the man she’d once called fiance. The week before, Victor had visited her quarters, where she’d provided far too much food, and the two had begun the reconciliation process. Enyd felt letter writing might be a good avenue to fall back on to assist in their healing. As it had in many ways been the avenue through which they’d first fallen in love, perhaps it could be the road taken to regain their friendship and move forward.

Picking up the teacup and leaning back in her chair, Enyd left the journal and pencil abandoned on the table for the time being. If she attempted to write anything right now, it would only come out as a convoluted mess, and Victor deserved more than that. Enyd shook her head as the smiling image of Alistair came to mind, followed soon after with the brooding smirk of Drauc. That she’d gone from no men to three drastically different men, all fascinating and alluring in their own way, and each preoccupying various corners of her mind throughout the day, was astounding. And the further cause of her lack of writing. She wasn’t used to having…options. Hadn’t ever considered herself the type to date, given how awkwardly driven she’d been in childhood, and now working on a space-faring buffet for eligible dating options was akin to overwhelming.

Enyd melted further back into her chair as her thoughts continued to veer this way and that, not even aware that she’d picked up the pencil in her musings and begun to sketch out the common night sky constellations from back in Montana.

A few chairs away and further away from the window, another officer was sitting, though she didn’t look near as relaxed. She’d come here right after her shift ended, and it showed. Red hair was in the process of falling out of its bun, a few strands having freed themselves already and the rest slowly sinking as the pins tried to hang on. One gray shoulder of her uniform was marred by a black oil that had leaked from a conduit during the day's repairs. Thankfully, the mess had smelled quite pleasant, oddly fruity for an oil, so it had been very easy for Azrin to forget about it as her day continued.

She’d come to the Observation Lounge - one of her favorite places on the ship - to unwind after her long day. Left to her own devices, she would happily work until she dropped, but experience had taught her how unhealthy that could be. Overly exhausted officers were far more likely to make mistakes, setting back the repair times even further. But she’d only gotten a few minutes of tranquility, seated far enough back for a wide expanse of stars to fill her eyes, before she was interrupted by a soft ding from her PADD.

Oddly enough, Azrin was also juggling an abundance of romance these days. Not one, not two, not three, but four - four! - individuals occupying her thoughts. It was exhilarating and exhausting at the same time. Normally she only had one to worry about at a time, but now she had to spread her affections between the main warp core, both auxiliary warp cores, and the new slipstream drive. All of which needed some TLC after the Theurgy’s wild ride to Qo’nos, though Azrin had inconveniently missed that part during her stasis induced nap. At the moment, she was intently studying a series of diagnostics from Vector 1’s auxiliary core. One of the antimatter injectors was determined to lock, no matter how much oil she squirted in there.

After sending the engineers on duty another set of tests to run on the malcontent part, Azrin abandoned the PADD entirely, deciding that leaving it on the chair behind her was the only way to get the rest she needed. They weren’t critical repairs. They had plenty of shore leave left to get everything running smoothly. Her brain just wouldn’t turn off. Walking up to the window, Azrin leaned her head against it, picking out one star in the distance and focusing on it. “There,” she said to herself, though her voice was perfectly loud enough for anyone to hear. “Let’s go there. I bet it has a picturesque tropical planet with bright pink oceans and blue sea monsters. That’d be fun.”

Enyd startled. Her hand instinctively jerked to the side, drawing a firm line across the page. So caught up in her own thoughts and museful scribbles, Enyd had allowed herself to be lulled into such a state of unawareness that any slight disruption to her environment led to a surge of adrenaline. Looking up and around at the mostly empty lounge, it did not take long to pinpoint the source of her startling: a beautiful red-headed Trill standing alone with her head resting against the observation window. Enyd hadn't seen Azrin since their little "excursion" on Qo'Nos. After mentally tracking over the Trill's words, her eyes moved from the woman’s form to the expanse of space outside.

“If it is anything like what we experienced on Qo’Nos,” Enyd spoke up from her position at the table, her body angling in her chair to face both the window and the woman, “whatever is picturesque likely has danger lurking just beneath the surface.” Sharing a playful smile, Enyd finally stood and stepped closer. “Haven't seen you around since our field trip planetside.” She twisted to gesture to the table and the empty chair across from her previously occupied one, “Would you care to join me? Perhaps continue the attempt to wrap our minds around what happened, and what's next?”
