Day 15 [1630 hours] Interrupted Travels

[Kesitina (Kel) Kavot Droga | Damaged Zaroodian Vessel |Wooded area | QuoNoS ]

The stranded Zaroodian looked at the damaged vessel that had been her home for the last five years. The strange storm in space that had caused it to malfunction and crash in the trees of this planet was like nothing she had ever seen or heard about. To be honest, the experience had terrified her. She had thought she would perish when everything went black and she had no control over the boxy vessel. It was only by the will of the stars that she had ended up here.  She had thought she could perhaps settle here, but that was not going to happen. The native people were loud and aggressive. She had quickly made the decision to repair her ship and be on her way as with all due haste.

Kelstina had been stranded too long on this planet. It wasn’t like she was not trying to get her ship fixed, but there was only so much she could do alone. She had already had to barter a good portion of her supplies to get parts that she still had to modify to fit her ship. That made the progress a lot slower than she would have desired. She had very little left to barter with that she would be willing to part with. She had spent the better part of the day searching in the now empty quarters of those who had left the ship for anything they may have left behind. A small carved image someone had made of a Taritt and a few small baubles were about the only things she found. She doubted they would get her much.

On many occasions she was certain that the parts she had been ‘sold’ were defective, but as she could not speak the language it was hard to know what they were saying.  However more than once she had heard their derisive laughter as she left with what she had been able to get.  Kel had so far managed to repair the hull, which had suffered significant damaged when it hit the large trees in which it was now surrounded.  She’d had to clear some away so she could access the damaged area, but that could not be helped. That alone had taken her a few days. Now weeks had passed and if all went well, she would be free of this place in just a day or two.

Kel hated to go into their settlements. They were too loud and she was often treated roughly by their offspring. Being kicked and having things thrown at her had been a common occurrence she had endured. But if she wanted off the planet, she needed to find something that she could modify to fit into the last power junction and restore the engines.

Pulling on her Tarrit-leather coat she sighed.  Just one more time, she hoped, and then she’d be free of this place for good. The walk to the settlement took about 30 standard minutes.  During this time she tried to work out the best way to find the last piece she would need. She knew that the parts they had on this planet did not exactly fit into her ship and had learned the hard way that they also sometimes worked opposite of what she’d expected.  But she had high hopes that this would be her last foray into their harsh community.

Kel was weary. She had spent more time searching for something that she might be able to fit or modify. She did finally find the small piece, but it looked rather worn. She sighed heavily knowing she would need to make some adjustments to get her engines working. She just hoped her skills had progressed enough that it would work and she could leave. Tucking the small metal cylinder into her satchel she paused a moment to watch a large bird fly overhead. “You are a lucky creature,” she whispered to the bird, even though she knew it could neither hear nor understand her words. Lowering her head she began to walk back through the community towards where her ship was waiting. She glanced around nervously, keeping an eye out for trouble. Klin-onz, she found, were quite good at that.

A group of off-worlders caught her eye. She watched as they entered one of the eating establishments near the center of the community. Perhaps, she mused, that they are less aggressive than the natives.  She gave her head a quick shake as she made her way through the busy market area. She had just started to move past where the off-worlders had gone when she heard a horrendous howl of pain and decided to take a look to see if one of them had been injured by the Klin-onz.  Not that she would be of much help, she was not a healer, but her curiosity got the better of her.
