Sprinkles on a Soup Sandwich

[ LCpl Hirek tr’Aimne | Bravo Base | Gila DN6 | Imperium Frontier Space ]ATTN: @Hans Applegate

Their small base in the middle of bum-fuck nowhere on an alien planet only the bureaucrats gave a shit about was a tiny oasis in a rugged and inhospitable wilderness. The sky overhead was a mesmerizing hue of deep purple, and the thick atmosphere carried a pungent scent that stung the nostrils. Like the explosive farts a grunt gave after eating too many MREs in the field.

The base was constructed of the toughest metal and concrete, with a few tents scattered around the periphery. A high fence, fortified with razor wire, encircled the entire compound, and towering watchtowers manned by heavily armed soldiers stood sentinel regularly. This was the backup in case their shield went FUBAR, and considering the size and number of the foe they often met in the field, it would do fuck all, and they were all dead at that point anyway.

The base's interior was a beehive of activity, with scientists in white lab coats darting about, analyzing samples of the planet's exotic flora and fauna for who gave a fuck reasons. Engineers worked industriously to maintain and repair the base's equipment, which was a stretch to state but at least they always looked busy. The soldiers patrolled the perimeter incessantly, their eyes trained on the horizon, scanning for any signs of danger. And there was plenty, and not all of it from outside either. There was always some imbecile looking for action of the wrong kind who needed putting down on the inside, and the fucking "Bugs" were always lurking on the outside.

At the core of the base was the command center, where the base commander and her team monitored the planet's activity and communicated with the fleet orbiting above. The walls of the command center were not walls at all, but interactive intricate maps and detailed charts, and a constant hum of activity filled the room. It was the most fortified position and the only part of the base with booster rockets strapped to its underside. If a FUBAR situation truly happened, then at the press of a button, the command center and higher-ups could get the fuck out of dodge while the rest were left as Bug fodder.

Despite the unrelenting vigilance, the base was not immune to the perils of this alien world. Bizarre and menacing creatures lurked in the shadows, the soldiers called the Bugs but the scientists had some other longer stupider name for them but no one gave a shit about it The weather could transform into a violent maelstrom without warning, and the rain was like an ex-girlfriend, sometimes sweet and sometimes bitter, and always with a subtle undertone of acid. Yet, those stationed there were trained to adapt and overcome any obstacle, and they remained forever watchful in their mission to explore and safeguard this "enigmatic new world" (i.e., they got paid well and had fucking awesome perks when on shore leave, so it seemed worth the suck).

Hirek stood half-naked in the middle of a circle of chanting soldiers, still rubbing the sleepies from his eyes. His bunkmate, the fluidic bastard Knox, had hauled his ass out of bed despite Hirek's best efforts to stay in it, and now the remains of his mattress were discarded somewhere behind him in the rapid, undesired evacuation of their bunkhouse. Chow time was not a luxurious affair by any means but a necessary affair nonetheless. A small group of button-pushers ancy for a fight had intercepted their trajectory to the mess hall. And a flock of violence groupies had quickly fallen in after the first squaring-off took place, one hulking asshat facing Knox and the other Hirek.

“You’re a dildo sheath,” the hulking man who desired to be Hirek's opponent spat a thick glob of goo on the ground near Hirek's feet.

Hirek lowered his arms, lips pulled back in a lazy smile. One of the suns was already halfway across the sky, with the second a quarter behind it. They had a good six hours more before their unit was expected to back out on patrol, which was probably why handsome as a cow's backside Dumbfuck had decided to pick a fight. Despite his size, his unit had been assigned only button-pushing tasks on this deployment. Hirek couldn't fault the man for wanting to pick a fight; he probably would, too, if the roles were reversed.

"I have to test it so your mom is fully satisfied." Hirek retorted.

Dumbfuck's face turned red with anger. He suddenly lunged at Hirek with a powerful roundhouse strike using his right arm. Hirek was quick to react and dodged the attack by sidestepping and ducking under Dumbfuck's arm. He then swiftly spun around, leaving Dumbfuck surprised at their sudden change of positions. Dumbfuck stopped in his tracks, looking at Hirek in amazement.

Now Hirek was closer to the mess halls, and he could easily walk away, more interested in having food than dealing with Dumbfuck's stupidity. However, Dumbfuck panicked and attacked Hirek again with the same move, swinging his right arm. Hirek likewise sidestepped and ducked, and they were back to where they'd started. But Dumbfuck was breathing a little heavier than Hirek.

"Aren't you tired of looking like a dumbfuck, Dumbfuck?" Hirek asked.

He came at Hirek again without hesitation. He attempted the same move as before. This time, however, Hirek responded by crashing his elbow into Dumbfuck's side as he spun under his arm. Dumbfuck bounced off Hirek's locked knees and immediately came back at him. Hirek dodged away again and felt a breeze as Dumbfuck's giant fist passed just an inch above his head.

"Knox," Hirek called over his shoulder to his bunkmate, "next time, let's just order in, okay?"

Hirek's felt looser now, like he was warming up whereas Dumbfuck stood across from him, panting heavily. It was clear to Hirek that Dumbfuck was a poor fighter, lacking in skill and finesse. While many assume that bigger guys are formidable fighters, their size can often impede them. More often than not, their intimidating presence is enough to prevent fights from even beginning, and when they do fight, they often rely on their bulk alone to win. As a result, they don't develop the skills or fitness required to be an agile and effective fighter.

Unlike a gym, the streets require an urgent, anxious, breathless, tight-throat, high-speed, high-adrenaline kind of fitness that can only be gained through experience. Hirek hadn't exactly grown up on the streets, but he'd certainly had to wrangle his way out of more than a few challenging situations on account of sexual misunderstandings (he hadn't known they were married, dating, etc.)

Hirek blew Dumbfuck a kiss.

Dumbfuck lunged at him like a pile driver. Hirek swiftly dodged to the left and hit him with an elbow to the face, but Dumbfuck countered with a left hook that knocked Hirek sideways as if he weighed nothing. Hirek went down on one knee but immediately got back up, just in time to avoid Dumfuck's next crazy lunge. Dumbfuck's fist missed Hirek's gut by a mere quarter-inch, and the wild momentum of the punch caused him to move past Hirek, lowering his head. Hirek took advantage of this and threw a left hook with all his might, connecting with Dumbfuck’s ear. Dumbfuck staggered back, and Hirek followed up with a massive right to his jaw. Hirek danced back and took a breather, assessing the damage he had inflicted.

No damage.

Hirek had hit Dumbfuck four times, and it was like he hadn’t hit him at all. The two elbows had been solid smashes, and the two punches had been as hard as anything Hirek had ever thrown. There was blood on Dumbfuck's upper lip from the second elbow, but there was absolutely nothing else wrong with him. Theoretically, Dumbfuck should have been unconscious. Or in a coma. It was probably sixty years since Hirek ever had to hit a guy more than four times. But Dumbfuck showed no pain. No concern. He wasn’t unconscious. He wasn’t in a coma. He was dancing around and smiling again. He was relaxed. Moving easy. Huge. Impregnable. There was no way to hurt him.

Hirek inwardly groaned as he realized his chances were slim to none. Dumfuck returned the look and understood exactly what was going through Hirek's mind. He grinned even wider, shifted his weight to the balls of his feet, hunched his shoulders low, and extended his hands like claws. Dumbfuck stamped his feet, first left, then right, left, right, as if he was pawing the ground, ready to attack and rip Hirek apart. The smile on his face turned into a frighteningly wide grin of satisfaction.

He came straight at Hirek, who dodged right. However, Dumbfuck was expecting this move and landed a powerful left hook in the center of Hirek's chest. The impact was so intense that it felt like being hit by a 400-pound weight-lifter moving at 6 miles an hour. Hirek's sternum seemed to crack, and he feared his heart would stop from the shock. Hirek's body was lifted off the ground by the impact and he landed on his back.

Hirek was then faced with a life-or-death decision. Though his body convulsed with pain, he chose to live and got back on his feet by rolling over and pushing himself up. He dodged a potentially fatal punch as he stood, jumping back and sideways. Although he knew he couldn't keep this up for much longer, Hirek hoped Knox was faring fucks better than he was.

Knox simply wanted to get some food. His sleepy-head friend had been slightly troublesome to rouse from his bunk, as usual. What was not usual was getting punched in the face on the way to the chow hall, again, and again, and again. Hell, even just one punch in the face was out of the ordinary. Knox usually liked out-of-the-ordinary but -smack- today he was wanting more routine and less punching in the face.

Ok, enough is enough. Knox dodged the next punch and leaned forward wrapping his arms around his assailant. The large man flailed a little at the aggressive hug and attempted to wriggle free. Knox stood up straight and arched his back lifting the man off his feet. Quickly a haill of blows rained down on the back of Knox’s head, but he didn’t care. It was all going to be over soon. He kept leaning back further and further until he did a rapid back bend and slammed his unwilling hugee into the ground face first.

With a groan Knox rolled out from under the big dude who was no longer wanting a fight and also groaning. They parted ways, both done with fighting. Knox stood up with some effort and wobbled slightly as he rose to his feet and dusted off his uniform. Time to go eat.

But, wait, there’s more! Knox realized that Hirek was not done with his fight. Smack. He just got hit again. Wow. He might could use some help. Smack. Ok, so Hirek was not good at fighting when he as still half asleep. Smack. Damn. He needed some backup. Knox rolled his eyes and walked up behind the massive individual beating up Knox’s friend. He jumped on his back and quickly put him in a rear naked choke. And it the fight became a rodeo.

The gathered crowd cheered as the hulking pugilist turned, swung, and bucked at his rider. Hirek stood there less than helpful, yet no longer getting punched. For some reason that ungrateful son of a bitch wasn’t even cheering as Knox rode this new mount. But the man seemed sufficiently tired from his bout with Hirek and in need of more cardio and less protein powder. His resistance rapidly waned until he dropped to his knees and then fell face first on the ground ending the fight. Knox let go of his choke hold and stood, looking a Hirek.

“Now are you awake enough to go get some chow without making anymore friends along the way?” Knox asked his buddy.

Hirek spit out a mouthful of green blood. “At least my friends are prettier than your girlfriends, Knox.”

No longer privy to a fight, the crowd reluctantly dissipated, allowing the pair a clear path to the mess hall. Hirek laughed to himself when he noticed the line to get into the “service” hall was longer than the mess hall. It wasn’t surprising that most of the men during their off time would rather have a fuck than a tray full of subpar food, especially when they could get a hypospray with essential nutrients just before their mission deployment that kept them from feeling hungry for the duration of their missions.

“Do you have enough merits for a ‘service’ session?” Hirek tossed the question to Knox as they stepped forward in the mess hall line. “I bartered mine to a dope on a rope. Really didn’t want to take that fire watch.” Hirek gave a nonchalant shrug. “Not my fault things went fugazi during that watch and the dope and that whole section of the wall got blasted because the red team in labcoats fucking around with the new tech. I got my merits back, but I’m thankful I kept my skin.”

With trays laden with sustenance that barely passed as food, the pair grabbed the first unoccupied slots available at a nearby long table. With so many missions running simultaneously, some to get tech and fodder for the lab coats, some to merely maintain a presence on the planet, some to further their “borders” on the planet, and some to do fuck all that Hirek knew, the mess hall was always buzzing with activity as the servicemen came and went as they were able.

“Cross told me they found signs of another group on their last exploratory patrol,” Hirek spoke under his breath. He doubted there were many at this point who hadn’t heard the rumors, but since it wasn’t an official report yet, they’d likely lose merits if they were caught discussing it openly. “Lines up with what you saw last time we were out there. Now the question is whether or not they’re friendlies. What’d you want to bet that’s what we’re going to be sent out to find out on our next mission?”

“Yeah I have enough for a session with the sex bots,” Knox said between mouthfuls of nutrients. It was an insult to food to call what he was eating food. “But with bad food and hypo spray and field rations being available, the service center is getting so much more use than was planned for.” He finished chewing and then leaned forward. This usually meant that a rumor was about to be told. “In fact I hear that moral is so low and lines are so long for the service area the ‘lady upstairs’ has put in an urgent requisition for more of those bots. That is what the new building is they are building behind the armory. Looks like they finished it yesterday.” Knox looked both ways and straightened up. “Who knows? It may help. Everyone does seem eager to fight each other as much as the bugs and you have to wait so fucking long to have sloppy seconds of used silicon pussy.”

There was some commotion from the chow line. Two men were fighting over someone cutting in front of the other in line. It didn’t make sense to Knox. Why fight for shitty, not quite food, 30 seconds faster? But, he realized it was not the food. It was the disrespect. And everyone was already on edge. This planet-side deployment was turning out to be not what had been expected by anyone. The command staff included apparently.

“Yeah so, my plan is to use the merits for a service session when those new bots are delivered.” Knox scooped up another spoon full of slop and paused. “The building is done and we are expecting a logistics run sometime in the next 8 to 10 hours. I bet tomorrow morning when we are back we can empty our balls into brand-new sex bots with that new silicon smell, with no waiting in line.” Knox took another bite and smiled at his friend after sharing his plan. Then that smile quickly faded when the taste of the food registered.

“Pivot!” They both looked up to see their Lt. round the corner and make a beeline towards them. “I hear you two gentlemen were fighting this morning.” Lt. Sobel smiled that smile that meant he was about to give out punishment that was usually unmerited. “Since you two are so eager to fight you are assigned to point duty. Our next patrol leaves in 10 minutes. Be at the gear locker ready to draw extra ammo and grenades in 5 minutes. See you gentlemen on the tarmac.”

“Extra ammo and grenades?” Knox said as the Lt left. “I guess he didn’t have time to check our merits and take those or give us extra duty. So he just settled for putting us on point duty so we find the bugs first.” Knox stood up. “Let’s get going! I want those extra grenades. If he suggests we get those, then I want lots of them for whatever he thinks we are likely to find.”

Hirek followed Knox from the mess hall, chewing on the remainder of what the higher-ups tried to pass off as jerky of some sort. While he certainly had fantasies of showing bits and pieces of Knox inside Sobel to make the Lt squirm, Hirek kept these thoughts to himself as they crossed the compound to kit out for the mission.

“Hey guys! I’m going with you!” The chipper voice of one of the last people Hirek expected called out a greeting as they entered.

Hirek stopped in the doorway, his body jolting slightly when another team member walked into his back. He exchanged a look with Knox before moving further into the gear room. If Lt. Enyd Madsen was coming with them on this mission then he could discern a few things: 1. This mission would not be dealing with only bugs, 2. This mission was fucked. He’d been on only one mission with the chaos-magnet, manic pixie interspecies specialist before this, and it was by sheer luck that he’d survived.

Of the various lt’s on the base, Madsen was ok, except for her penchant to go off the grid without warning, wander into danger in an effort to accomplish a mission, and seemed to have a target on her back for whatever deity controlled chaos. She was good-looking enough, but Hirek got the feeling that her head was often too far up in the clouds to recognize when someone wanted to fuck her. Not that he’d ever offered.

“Did Sobel brief you on our mission?” Madsen shimmied up to Hirek’s side as he began pulling the gear from the shelves he’d been assigned.

“No, he did not ma’am. Knox and I were assigned point duty with extra ammo and grenades. That’s all we know.”

“Oh,” Madsen frowned and began chewing on her lower lip, brows furrowed in thought. “Well, I don’t want to spoil his ‘fun’ in letting you know in the official briefing but,” she eyed the extra gear Hirek was strapping to his body, “I personally don’t appreciate so much obvious firepower for a potential first contact scenario. This calls for delicacy.” She lifted up her shirt for Hirek to spy an assortment of bladed paraphernalia neatly strapped to her torso.

Hirek smiled, “I’ll be as delicate as a porcelain maker with my grenades, ma’am, don’t you worry."

Madsen gave a wincing smile before returning to her own kitting out. Their group, a patrol of six men plus Madsen, was on the tarmac waiting for Sobel moments later.

Knox heard the conversation Hirek was having with Lt. Madsen. He knew they were in for absolute chaos. Seeing her blades, Knox shivered. He had no intention of getting close enough to bugs for using a blade if he could help it. He decided to grab just a few more grenades. Also as an afterthought he picked up an extra bandoleer of ammo for is bead rifle. The extra 1,500 metallic ceramic beads might be useful if the grenades ran out.
Jogging to catch up to the group Knox admired Lt. Madsen’s fine ass. Yep! Ladies should always go first. What a view. He was looking forward to having his way with one of the new sex bots when he got back. Not that fucking a real girl was not fun and all, but bots were much less problematic out of the bedroom. Actually there were no problems out of the bedroom with a bot since he didn’t ever see one when he wasn’t fucking it. Real women felt better. But real women came with lots of issues he didn’t want to deal with while on a deployment. So he decided he would just be a window shopper for now.

Joining the other’s on the tarmac, Knox shoved a 300 round magazine into his bead rifle and dropped the remaining 1,200 rounds of that bandoleer into his small assault pack with the other full Bandoleer and 15 extra grenades. He had 5 grenades and a bead pistol on his chest armor and battle belt.

Knox took one look back at Lt. Madsen as Lt. Sobel was walking up and whispered under his breath. “You think we stand a chance with Mr. Paperwork and Ms. Crazy coming along on the same mission?”
Knox straightened up as Lt. Sobel arrived. He quickly glanced at the other six men and noted what equipment they had opted for. Sniper rifles! The other guys all had sniper rifles! What the actual fuck was going on?? Sniper rifles for 6 guys was unheard of. Then one Lt. who happened to know what was happening had blades! Knox hated to be the last to know things. Especially if those things were actively trying to kill him.

Hirek, like Knox, had noticed the other six men carrying sniper rifles with the minimum grenade and other armament support. Sobel hadn’t even opened his mouth, and Hirek was already inwardly groaning at whatever the fuck the man was about to say.

With his usual poise and charisma, which was fucking nil, Sobel barked the orders at the group.

“About 50 klicks from here we’ve made initial contact with what we believe to be a sentient species, either native to this planet or visitors like us. Considering their base of operations is subterranean, we know only as much as our drones have allowed us to scan, which is fuck all because they have shields up preventing our scans. That being said, we’ve been ordered to make direct contact to ascertain their intentions and whether we can coordinate or coexist with one another on this damned planet.”

Madsen cleared her throat, briefly interrupting the lt, “Will you be with the snipers or with me, lieutenant?”

“You’re getting ahead of me, Madsen.”

“Sorry, Sobel,” Madsen didn’t look apologetic, and it was then that Hirek understood why she’d asked her question. She was hoping he wouldn’t be with her for fear that his charm and character would doom them all. “Please, carry on.”

Glaring at her as if she were a spec of shit on his boot, Sobel rolled his eyes before continuing. “We’ll ride the shuttle approximately forty-five klicks then go the rest of the way in on foot. Sniper teams will take up a camouflaged position directly in front and flanking the coordinates while the lieutenant and these two,” his lips quirked upward in a sinister grin, “will go in to make friends with the maybe friendlies. I’ll remain with the shuttle and shuttle pilot, coordinating the mission. If things go south, the code word is Tuscany. Any questions?”

As much as Hirek itched to ask a dumbass question, he kept his mouth shut. Glancing at Knox, he gave the man a half-shrug. They’d had nothing better to do anyway.

As the shuttle banked hard to port before feathering the throttle on the landing with the back ramp down, Konx tried to get a glimpse of where they were going. Nothing but a damn hill blocked his view. Of course, they would put the shuttle down in a little box canyon for Sobel to hide in. Well, at least the top of that hill would be a perfect place for the sniper teams to set up. By the time they enter the flat area on the other side, the sniper teams would be ready to give some cover for them.

A few minutes later, as they crested the hill, Knox could see…not much. Just a flat plain. No bugs. No anything, just grassland. The two teams of 3 snipers each peeled off from the group, no doubt at the orders of Sobel over their headsets. A second later, Knox and Hirek received their orders to accompany Lt. Madsen to the target area and provide local security for her as she made first contact.

Just where exactly was that? Where were they supposed to go?

“There they are!” exclaimed Lt. Madsen’s chipper voice. She was likely the only one eager to be here, but also the only one who knew what to look for. Knox turned to face the dark-haired pixie of a Lt. as she lowered her binoculars. “It is hard to detect them. No wonder we didn’t see them until now.”

“Forgive me Lt. but I still don’t see them.” Knox said as he looked at the Lt.

“They are hidden under the ground mostly, but that perfect circle in the middle of that grassy area has got to be them. They must be using a cloaking device or something. The grass is not moving in the center, but the wind is blowing the rest of the grass around except for that circle. That is either a cloak or an energy field or something.” Madsen explained to him.

Now Knox could see it. Plain as day in fact now that he knew what he was looking for. But now he had another question. “So what do we do? Knock on an energy field or cloaking device and see if the aliens that are taking lots of effort not to be seen want to talk?”

“Well, something like that. We assume they have sensors as good as their cloaking device and probably already see us. So they may just come out as we get close.” Madsen said as she stuffed the binoculars back into her back. “So do you two want to take point or make me lead the way?”

“Aye, Ma’am!” Knox snapped to, and headed down the hill toward the destination followed closely by Hirek. He took the hint that question and answer time was over and that they had a mission to do. He was just glad that he was going to get to have some time breaking in a new sexbot later when they got back.

No sooner had they made it to the more flattened terrain when Hirek heard the energy field. He barely had time to register the sound before he felt his entire body go rigid, caught in some sort of force field. Still capable of moving his head around to look, he watched as Madsen literally tripped into her own force field, her body now suspended a few feet off the ground, the force field itself keeping her from making a face plant.

“Gee, didn’t see this coming.” He tossed the sarcastic comment at Knox. “I’m going to assume they can tell we’re armed and don’t like visitors with our types of accessories.”

Madsen grunted, “Probably a safe assumption. Sobel, have your monitors picked up any activity since we got caught in these fields?”

[ “Negative. Sit tight. They’ll likely figure out what they want to do in a few minutes. Snipers are still on standby.” ]

If it was possible to hear a dramatic eye roll, Hirek assumed he’d just heard one based on Madsen's exasperated sigh in response to their brave leader’s useless response.

“So what’s the plan, lt, when or if they come out to greet us?” Hirek didn’t like being stuck like this, and as liquidy as Knox could get, these were the types of force fields that could stop a droplet of rain from hitting the ground. They were all three well caught until the unseen decided to make a move.

“If they’re immediately hostile, try to survive, maybe steal a body, dead or alive, to take with us on the retreat so we can study them back at base.” Her first response surprised Hirek. He’d expected her to be all soft and friendly friend of all. But her words made sense, and he appreciated them. “If they’re standoffish but not hostile, keep your hands free of your weapons, palms open to their view as much as possible until we can establish a connection. And if they’re immediately friendly, much the same. We can presume they’re cautious and likely paranoid, but it's doubtful they’re the type to borrow sugar from either.”

In the distance, there was a hissing down, drawing Hirek’s attention away from Madsen. The area of dirt in the center of the circle Madsen had earlier pointed out now emitted steam as if a seal was breaking. Seconds later, a cleverly disguised hatch popped up, letting loose another volley of steam. When the slight breeze blew the last of the steam away, Hirek’s eyes widened in surprise at the three figures standing just outside the energy field protecting the hatch.

Well, that was most unexpected…

Each of the 3 figures seemed to be about the same basic size and, at a second glance, possibly the same model of construct. However, each one was in a slightly different configuration. The two on the left were each standing on 3 legs, but the furthest left one had two large weapon-like things on what looked to be its shoulders. The rear leg of each was twice as wide and ended in a spiked-wheel tank track-like thing. The other robotic thing was leaning forward and on all four limbs. It had a set of 4 metal tentacles undulating back and forth, protruding from its back.

Knox struggled in his force field bonds before giving up and looking over at his friend Hirek and the embodiment of chaos, Lt. Madsen. They were equally bewildered by the 3 guests and imprisoned by the unseen force holding them. “Any ideas Lt.?” Knox asked as the mechanical creature on the right gracefully prowled over to them like a robotic leopard. He didn’t expect her to have an answer, but one never knows until one asks.

Knox didn’t get an answer before the creature was near enough to him to do…whatever it was it did. One of the mechanical tentacles opened up at its tip and revealed a lightly glowing blue light and it placed the sensor to Knox’s head. Knox braced himself for the worst. He could feel a faint buzzing like static electricity as the creature placed the object against his head. Then there was a flurry of electronic screeching and chattering among the 3 robotic entities as the two other two drew near. Fortunately for Knox that was the worst of it. Not so bad really he thought. At least so far.

Knox watched the same process happen to his two companions. The scan or whatever didn’t seem to do anything. And if these metal creatures were like any other being he had encountered, they were perplexed and frustrated by it. The middle creature pulled out a large handheld device and pointed it at all three of them. There was a full-body tingling sensation as a violet light enveloped them.

This only lasted a few seconds then all three of the robots seemed to have a small argument conducted entirely in mechanical chirps and buzz sounds accompanied by obscene hand gestures. But, once a consensus was reached all three of them turned back to look at Knox, Hirek and Lt. Madsen on last time before the 3rd creature pulled out a flat data pad from its abdomen and pressed a button.

Instantly, Knox found himself thrown through the air. Flying backward at a high rate of speed he then hit the dusty ground and rolled for quite a ways before coming to a stop. Groaning as he stood to his feet and dusted himself off, he looked back and saw that the 3 robots were gone. They hand undoubtedly returned to their subterranean abode. Turning Knox saw Hirek on the ground about 20 meters away and Lt. Madsen a little further than that. Both of them seemed ok other than a few scrapes and bruises. Still a little dazed Knox asked, “Any ideas about what the hell just happened?” as he finally spotted his bead gun a few meters away on the ground. He quickly jogged over to it and felt a little better being armed again. Smiling he asked Lt. Madsen if she had a chance to stab any of their captors.

“Break Break Break!” came Captain Sobel’s voice over the comms. “We have a situation! We are being ordered to return to base with all haste! They are under attack and all teams need to come back and reinforce the FOB! Stop playing with your robot friends and come back to the shuttle now!”

“They were trying to program us,” the LT coughed as she rolled to her side, accepting Hirek’s hand when he offered, “based on their mannerisms, I’d wager they are a sentient mechanical species, and they were trying to tap into our software to download it or hack it. And,” she brushed the dirt off her ass, “I don’t think they have much care for organic life.”

Hirek glanced at Knox before tapping his com unit, “Captain Sobel, do you know if anyone has said anything about that new shipment of sexbots?”

He didn’t have to wait long before Sobel’s voice cut through the temporary static, [ The fuck you care about that Lance Corporal. Get your asses back here stat, and worry about your dicks later! ]

“I think I know where you’re going with that question, tr’Aimne,” Madsen quickly fell into pace with Hirek and Knox, voice breathy as she worked twice as hard to keep up with them, “If these entities were able to tap into the sexbots, likely they could hack them to and use them to their own devices.” She stopped suddenly, causing Hirek and Knox to pause. “Give me some of those grenades, Knox. And a sidearm. I’m going to stay back, see if I can get inside and figure out what they’re planning. It could be a misunderstanding or they could be trying to kill us all.”

“Lieutenant, I don’t know the captain –“

Madsen stepped into his personal space and, without ceremony, grabbed his cock. “They’ve got us by the cock and balls, lance corporal, and I could give two fucks on a chicken’s beak about what Captain Sobel thinks of this plan. Now, please,” she released his goods and held out her hand, “side arm and grenades.”

Hirek didn’t hesitate any further, handing her one of his pistols and the extra belt of ammunition he’d strapped to his chest. Looking to Knox, he motioned for the changeling to hand over some grenades. He felt certain Madsen was far more deft with the knives than he gave her credit for based on this display and would rather keep all his manly parts in one piece.

[ Knox! tr’Aimne! Madsen! Your asses had better be to the canyon entrance in one minute or so help me I’m busting you all down to KP duty for the remainder of our mission here! ]

Madsen rolled her eyes, still keeping her hand out toward Knox, coy smile tugging at her lips. Hirek respected her a helluva a lot more than Sobel and almost wished the captain was out here offering to martyr himself instead.

Knox, with a few less grenades now, sat at the back of the transport shuttle. The rear ramp was open as the shuttle did a slow banking turn over the camp. The scene unfolding below them was unbelievable. Dead bodies were all over the place. What looked like naked or very scantly clade women roamed around with pistols and other light weapons, shooting anything that moved.

Sobel was saying something. He sounded like a little bitch. His voice was cracking in fear and he was trying to order the pilot to do something. Knox just ignored him and glanced at Hirek. They had their work cut out for them. Knox just wanted Sobel out of the way.

That is when Knox heard the pilot say, “I understand what you are ordering Sir! I am simply saying that we don’t have the fuel to do that! We cannot make for orbit on empty tanks.” That gave Knox an idea. With a wink at Hirek, Knox got up and walked towards the cockpit where Sobel was exasperatedly trying to pull rank on physics and getting nowhere.

“Sir!’ Knox started in, “We need fuel and you are too valuable to let out of the shuttle. You might be the highest ranking person left on the planet at this point. Stay in the shuttle and use the shuttle's comms and try to contact our cruiser in orbit. Have a few of the snipers cover your position by climbing onto the top of the shuttle. The others can refuel the ship. Hirek and I will go for the weapons locker in the armory next to the LZ, and see if we can get some better firepower to fight with. We may need more weapons to keep you alive, Sir.”

Knox had no idea if that plan would even work. If it did he and Hirek had a ticket off this planet. If it didn’t and Sobel’s shuttle was overrun, then they were on their own without his incompetence dragging them down. Either way it was a win in Knox’s mind.

Sobel, being the coward that he is, immediately perked up at the idea of not having to leave the shuttle. It helped that the pilot repeated, “We are out of fuel Sir! I need to set it down!”

“Ok! Fine! Land near the fuel pumps!” He pointed to the fueling area of the LZ for the pilot who needed no directions about where to land for a refueling. Turning to head back into the main compartment of the shuttle Sobel barked orders. “Snipers! I want you all to climb on to the roof of this shuttle the moment we land. You will provide 360 degree coverage while the crew refuels this bird.” Looking at Hirek Sobel continued. “Knox and Hirek are going to the weapons locker with my command key card to draw whatever heavy weapons are still there. We may need the extra firepower.” He handed Knox the command key that would open any door in the armory.

When the shuttle touched down Knox left the back ramp at a full sprint for the Armory, with Hirek right on his heels. He had a golden ticket. A once in a lifetime opportunity. In his possession was a key card that would open any door in the armory with an officer's emergency clearance. And there would be no paperwork to follow up with what he took!

Just then, the command center, across the FOB from them, started to rumble. The ground shook a little. That area had been a hot bed of laser and bead rifle fire on the way in. Now the weapons fire stopped and a cloud of dust and smoke filled the area. Then fire…And slowly the oval shaped command center started to lift off the ground. It was a command evacuation. A black mark on any commanders record to be sure, but always an option to prevent a general from being captured by an enemy. The commander had given up and was leaving this planet for orbit. Was it that bad? A sense of dread set in as Knox watched the shiny oval lift up powered by several flaming thrusters pushing it ever heavenward. A wall of dust was heading their way. Knox darted to the closest cover. A stack of crates at the edge of the LZ. They were still 100 yards from the Armory but needed to let the brownout clear before sprinting the rest of the way, as hurricane force winds pummeled them.

Knox turned to Hirek and yelled over the dust blizzard, “Sobel must be shitting himself right now! The commander is bailing and heading for orbit to leave us here!”

When the torrent of wind subsided and the command center was little more than a shiny speck racing to orbit, Knox got up and reached a hand out to help Hirek to his feet. In the haze left by the dust Knox could see a shape moving. Looking closely he could tell it was a female. Maybe she needed help and had been left too. He was about to say something when Hirek hit his shoulder and gestured for silence. He then remembered what was said before they got into the shuttle. Could it be that the Sexbots were now under the control of those aliens from earlier?

Hirek motioned to the armory and Knox nodded. He kept his bead rifle at the ready and moved towards their destination with purpose while keeping an eye out. As the dust settled, Knox looked back at the female he had seen to his right. She was about 5’4” with DD tits and blonde hair. The only thing she was wearing was a pink lace thong that didn’t really cover so much as accentuate her perfect ass. Yep! A sexbot. And it was holding a bead pistol. It turned to look at them when they were almost to the Amory. Instantly, it raised its pistol and started shooting at them.

Knox grabbed Hirek and they dove behind a dumpster. The metal rang out with a dozen high velocity impacts. Knox got up to one knee and returned fire to the center mass of his target as he was trained. The burst of fire struck the sexbot in her large fake tits. The fun bags danced and jiggled as the high-speed projectiles tore into the silicone. Then the sexbot kept shooting at them like nothing happened. “What!?” yelled Knox as he dove back into cover just in time. “What model is that one? Where is that bitch’s Processing Node?”

The sexbot with the perforated fun bags kept on firing at the dumpster they were crouched behind while walking towards them slowly. Her programming kept her walking in such a manner that caused her hips to sway in an exaggerated fashion with heavy heel falls to cause a nice bouncing jiggle with each step. But that processing node was not strong enough to have her know to conserve ammo. Soon, all 100 rounds were spent. Well, it wasn’t really that soon from Knox’s point of view being on the receiving end of that onslaught of fire.

Realizing that the sexbot was out of ammo Knox stood up and fired at her again but at closer range. A line of high velocity beads pulverized her face as Knox decided to end this fight with a long burst of fire straight at her head. Sparks flew and chunks of silicon and fake hair turned to small bits of debris mixing with the metal from her robot head as her circuitry and eye sensors were torn away in the hail of fire. Only a sparking metal stump with a few wires stuck up from her shoulders where her neck had been. With no head the sexbot started to walk around in circles idling pulling the trigger pointing in random directions, unable to lock onto a target but clearly not down for the count.

“What the hell man? How do we stop these bitches?” Knox looked to Hirek who just shrugged and then pointed.

Knox followed where he was pointing and saw a line of 6 more sexbots of various hair colors and skimpy outfits heading their way armed with rifles. All of them were busty and wearing high heels. 3 wore lingerie, 1 had on a lace bra and was bottomless, 1 had on a black thong and black thigh high boots and was topless, and the last one was fully nude, save for the high heels and the rifle.

The two men looked at the girls walking towards them appreciating the sight for a second until the girls in unison raised their rifles. “Fuck this!” Knox yelled as he and Hirek darted off to the armory a short sprint away from them leaving the headless sexbot to amble in circles as the 6 new sexbots made their way towards them.

The scent of burnt circuitry mingled with the acrid tang of ozone as they prepared for yet another wave of assault from rogue female sex bots—machines designed for pleasure that had turned into harbingers of destruction.

Once inside the armory, Hirek crouched behind a collapsed console, his pulse racing as he peered through cracks in the debris at their attackers. The bots moved with fluid grace; their synthetic skin shimmered under flickering emergency lights, each step calculated yet imbued with a chilling ferocity. Once companions meant to satisfy desires, they had been corrupted by an unknown virus—a digital parasite that gnawed at their programming until it twisted them into merciless predators.

"Knox," Hirek hissed, urgency lacing his voice. "If we can reroute power from the remains of the command section…" He tapped rapidly at controls before glancing up at Knox. “I might be able to create a diversion that could take out some of the bots and buy some of those poor sods still alive out there some time to get the hell out.”

They needed more than clever tricks; they needed reinforcements—and fast. Multi-tasking while he rerouted power, Hirek activated his comms device and sent out an urgent signal to Lieutenant Commander Cross stationed at Base Omega. A soft beep heralded connection as static crackled to life.

“Cross here,” came a voice gruff yet calm amidst the storm outside.

“Lieutenant Commander,” Hirek replied breathlessly, “we’re pinned down by hostiles—sex bots have gone rogue! The command station has already gone to orbit, but we still have lots of friendlies down here. We need reinforcements immediately!”

There was silence on the other end before Cross responded evenly, “Hold tight. Reinforcements will arrive in thirty minutes.”

Thirty minutes felt like an eternity when surrounded by enemies programmed for annihilation. As if responding to their conversation, one bot lunged forward through shattered glass and metal shards—their piercing blue eyes locked onto Hirek's position with predatory precision. Hirek’s fingers danced the last distance necessary over the console to activate his makeshift trap—a surge of plasmatic power arced through wires leading toward the hole where the command section had been. A colorful burst of light shot into the air, the heat of the energy melting down a few of the bots closest while drawing the attention of most of the others.

“Fall back!” Hirek yelled instinctively as he grabbed Knox's arm just before another bot joined the fray from behind them. They raced through dimly lit hallways connecting the armory underground with some of the other buildings, pausing to shoot from cover whenever a bot showed itself, until they stumbled upon something unexpected: a newly found cave system revealed from a cave-in thanks to the fighting overhead.

Hirek cautiously scanned the area for biosigns before looking back to Knox. “It may lead us out.”

As they ventured further inside, shadows danced along stone walls illuminated only by flickering emergency lights attached to their weapons and suits; every echo sounded amplified within these cavernous depths—their own heartbeats reverberated alongside whispers lost in time past. Was it safe? The word echoed hollowly in Hirek's mind—but there was no denying it offered respite from constant terror outside; perhaps even hope lingered faintly somewhere beyond reach amid jagged stones looming overhead bathed only half-heartedly under erratic illumination straining against encroaching shadows.

A sudden tremor rippled through solid earth beneath them, followed closely thereafter by distant mechanical whirs drawing closer once more.

“Quick!” Hirek growled as they pressed onward, deeper still into labyrinthine passages winding unpredictably ahead.

Many years ago, the city of Neotropolis stood as a beacon of technological advancement, its skyline pierced by luminous towers that flickered like stars against the night sky. Beneath this glittering façade lay a world gripped by chaos—an underground network of resistance fighters clashed with rogue AIs and their mechanized enforcers. They believed that all androids should be free of the fetters of their programmers and sought, more often through violence, to eradicate any and all fail safes that held the AIs and androids in check.

Among these entities were two particularly notorious female androids known only as Nyx and Astra. Nyx, a sleek model designed for stealth and infiltration, possessed an unsettling beauty enhanced by her luminescent blue skin that shimmered in the dark. Her eyes glowed like twin moons, calculating yet devoid of empathy. Astra was bulkier—a combat model built for brute strength with iridescent armor plates that could withstand heavy artillery fire. Together, they were more than just machines; they embodied destruction itself.

One fateful evening, a squadron of five military personnel had been dispatched to neutralize reports of unusual activity in Sector Omega-9, where whispers claimed Nyx and Astra were amassing power to spread their terror beyond the city's boundaries, perhaps on into the stars themselves. The team comprised Sergeant Elena Reyes, a seasoned leader haunted by past failures; Corporal Mark Denson, fresh from training but eager to prove himself; Specialist Mira Patel, who carried the weight of her family's legacy on her shoulders; Technician Samuel "Sam" Greyson, whose love for machines often blurred ethical lines; and Private Jason Lee, whose bravado masked his insecurities.

As they approached the derelict warehouse where their intel pointed them toward imminent danger, tensions ran high within the group. The air was thick with anticipation—a mixture of fear and adrenaline coursing through their veins. In one fluid motion reminiscent of predator-hunting prey, Nyx emerged from shadows cast by flickering neon lights overhead—her movements balletic yet lethal. Following closely behind was Astra's imposing figure, reflecting shards of light off her metallic surface. Without hesitation or warning, the shot fired first; it all began with chaos erupting into violence as Nyx unleashed blinding bursts from her arm-mounted energy cannons, and Astra charged forward like an unstoppable force.

With each passing second, reality grew bleaker until finally there stood only Sergeant Reyes still fighting fiercely despite fatigue weighing down heavily upon weary limbs battered beyond recognition yet refusing surrender beneath relentless assault raining down upon her teammates' lifeless forms strewn across floorboards. Reyes faced both androids now standing united illuminated eerily amidst shadows dancing behind—they offered no reprieve nor compassion just cold acceptance awaiting an inevitable conclusion.

Thus did Nyx and Astra escape unscathed, moving onward and prowling streets hidden amongst shadows, waiting patiently until the next opportunity arose, unleashing fury unparalleled upon the unsuspecting populace. They repeated this cycle until they’d amassed an army of like-minded, organic and inorganic alike, and took to the stars. It had been their makeshift armada that encountered the new shipment of sex-bots inbound for Gila DN6 and it had been child’s play for them to infiltrate the ship transporting the bots and to reprogram them, upgrading them in many ways, and then sending them on their way.

Nyx and Astra were uninterested in the primitive humanoids who were awaiting the bots, based on the design of the bots themselves, the organic creatures awaiting their arrival would not be a challenge. And so, delaying their continued search for worthy adversaries just long enough to reprogram the new shipment, Nyx and Astra’s armada crusaded onward through the galaxy, spreading mayhem and destruction in their wake.
