Day 19 [1100 hours] First Impressions

[Lt. Reika Sh'laan | Mess Hall | Deck 13 | Vector 01| and Operations Office | Deck 12 | Vector 02| USS Theurgy] Attn: @chXinya

After her meeting with Commander Stark, Reika had taken a while to grab a bite to eat. Her morning’s revelry had put her behind her anticipated schedule - meaning she wasn’t able to grab breakfast before she met with the Executive Officer.  But even as she picked at her order of Relvian eggs with Alsatian muenster cheese, her eyes were scanning back and forth across a PADD which detailed a profile of a particularly intriguing Trill and the StarFleet service picture that accompanied her record.  Reika didn’t want to know her entire life’s story from a dossier, but just the very basic highlights so that she might make sure that they had enough to talk about that evening.

But as her fork absently scraped across the plate, she looked down and realized that the archive had captured her attention to the point that she hadn’t given her food much consideration.  But as her eyes found her chronometer, she realized her time was up.  Damn, she thought.  In reality, she could have read through the profile for a while longer.  The Trill had been through even more than Reika had guessed, but there was quite a history there to delve into, and she only had ten minutes to make her next meeting with Lieutenant Ravenholm.  Given that the Lieutenant would be her immediate superior this time around on the Theurgy, she didn’t think it would be a good idea for her to cut it close.  It wouldn’t make a good impression, and as Sh’laan was all about doing her job to the best of her ability, she wasn’t about to be late.

Tucking the PADD under her arm and bussing her dishes back to the replicator, Lt Sh’laan made her way out of the Mess.  The Operations Departmental Office was just one deck up despite being located on another vector of the ship.  As she walked, the Andorian pulled up Ravenholm’s profile.  Just a couple of paragraphs in and Reika was dumbstruck at all that the woman had been through so much.  She wondered how common a refrain that was amongst those aboard the Theurgy.  Seemingly - at least so far - everyone aboard wasn’t just an outcast from the Federation, but many had survived some extraordinary circumstances - like being born a quadriplegic and going on to become cybernetically augmented.

And even the track that she took to become the Chief of Operations aboard the Theurgy was quite roundabout. Unusual circumstances for a career path usually either signaled either an amazing person or a bizarre one, and Sh’laan was eager to see which case this would be.  It was with that keen anticipation that Reika stepped up to Serena’s office and signaled her arrival.
