Personal Log:

As the sounds die out, and the victor is decided, I think back on facts, to steel myself against the fallout. I think of how, over the course of Savi research into life sciences, there were several different venues to explore when it came to improving the declining longevity of the Antecendants.

The first, of course, was the anti-aging genetic engineering field. Research began with extensive aging diagnostics and evaluating drug efficiency based on found aging and longevity markers. Then, came the improvement of delivery methods of genetic material to the Ante physiology. Success was moderate, and further studies had to be made of the the Savi genome, as well as years of testing different evolutionary drugs. The farthest progress was made in creating a database of connections between different omics (genomics, proteomics, etc.) of the aging process. After that, the anti-ageing field was stunted in the formulation of a unified mathematical aging model, and a failure to create transgenic creatures that wouldn't age. Because of these failures, an anti-aging medicine was never created.

Another field that was related to anti-aging was regenerative medicine. Early on, the necessity of stasis units for maintaining organ viability outside the body proved indispensable. Further studies revolved around transplanting organs between cloned bodies, and using creatures as bioreactors for growing Ante organs. Later years led to the utilisation of embryogenesis mechanisms, where Ante organs were grown artificially. The research into stem cells, however, proved the most revolutionary. In due time, the researchers could stimulate neurogenesis to restore functions in the Ante nervous systems. Hematopoiesis - the growth of blood cells - could be done outside the body. However, research ended in failed experiments with Ante brain transplantations upon cloned - younger - bodies. Cell degradation in the brain could not be stopped well enough for success in the field. Nanorobots could not treat said kind of brain damage without loss of memory. Therefore, while body integrity could be maintained, it was a moot pursuit when brain degradation could not be treated without memory loss.

Nanotechnology served to treat developing tumours aside from targeted drug delivery. Researchers could cure thrombosis and dialating blood vessels. Eventually nanorobots could be upgraded to bionanocells, programmed to preform specific tasks. To a limited extent, bionanomechanims were capable of integrating into cells, conducting repairs and controlling cell integrity from within. The challenge was clear, in how most of the cells in the Antecendant body had to be either replaced or controlled by nanomechanisms, and this could not be done without programming. While computer connections to neurons were established, the field never successfully transferred all Ante brain functions to a digital database, and even here, a central database hosting multilevel personality backups of the entire Ante population proved unsustainable and also demanded too much resources.

So, what if the storage could be kept individually, without the need for external control? Cybernetics and the development of artificial analogues of internal organs did promise the sustainability of the Ante longevity. Using surgeon robots of the Viginary model's early iterations allowed for fast and safe organ transplantation. It proved difficult, however, to transplant a living brain unto a biomechanical body, the experiments failing for the same reasons as the anti-ageing medicine field. Once more, cell degradation in the brain could not be treated in a way that preserved memory and personality.

In mounting desperation of our decline, these failures led to the unorthodox introduction of a foreign genome to supplement our own, and the Scion Directive was formed. Evidently, even this has proved to be a failure, since creating a superior Savi caste has split the species in two. The words of the Voice, and the Old Code of the Archive have cast our species into a domestic war that will be decided on all individual ships in the Flotilla.

As the sounds of battle fade, I hear it still: the Voice, and how it liberated the Low Class from servitude. Now, I am equal to my Decatria, and I will serve not because of a false reading made on my infant mind, but because I value my freedom as an Ante. Long live the echo of the Voice, and our two leaders, as they carry the call.
