The USS Warspite was commissioned as series production of the Sovereign class reached full speed as Starfleet sought to replenish its inventory, and replace aging vessels following the Dominion War. She was assigned to patrol the Romulan border following the Shinzon incident and was one of the first ships to take offensive action following the confirmation of the Thalaron detonation on Earth.
History
With the fleet's inventory severely depleted following the costly engagements with the Borg and the Dominion, Starfleet began mass production of many newer and more combat oriented designs in order to protect the integrity of the Federation's borders. The USS Warspite launched to fill this mandate on October 3, 2379 from Utopia Planitia on Mars. The Shakedown cruise revealed no major issues and the ship was declared ready a month later. She was immediately assigned to conduct anti piracy operations in the space surrounding Bajor and the frontier along the Cardassian border. She provided aid to many of the areas that were still ravaged by the Dominion War and served as a powerful symbol of peace and security in the post war environment.
Following the Shinzon incident, Warspite was transferred to the Romulan border areas to provide a powerful presence in an area that had become very hostile and volatile. She continued her mission of presence patrols, scientific exploration, and providing aid as needed. With the detonation of the Thalaron device in Paris, USS Warspite quickly went into action upon receipt of the high priority message from Starfleet Command authorizing offensive action against Romulan forces. She quickly crossed the border to destroy a reported Tal Shiar listening post that had been hiding behind a border trade station. Using the havoc created by this action, Captain Chan first ambushed a responding Romulan Science Vessel. The ship was quickly disabled and the crew taken prisoner while all the ships research was seized. The science ship was left intact as bait for a trap which a Valdore class ship stumbled into. The Warspite quickly engaged the Romulan warbird and attempted to disable the vessel. The engagement was short and sharp with the Romulan ship exploding after a freak hit caused its singularity core to implode with the loss of all hands.
Following this action, Warspite crossed back into Federation space and was ordered to investigate intel reports of fighting between Klingon and Romulan forces in the Triangle.
