Day 09 [0900 hrs.] Knight to Wolf-11

[ LTJG Uriah Ahern, callsign Knight | Deck 11, Main Sickbay Recovery Ward | USS Theurgy ] Attn: @Triage

Uriah had been visiting Krystal for the past week, helping her out with her recovery and generally just being there for her as she recovered not only from her injuries but also the loss of her lover James Mariner.  Uriah had never really been fond of Jimmy and he knew that Daniel tolerated him because he was a good security officer, although he was kind heavy handed sometimes.  As much as Uriah didn’t like him he never would have wished him to meet his end the way that he did.  However the more time that he spent with Krystal the more that he found himself really enjoying her company.

There were others in the Recovery Ward with them however Uriah managed to tune all of them out and focus solely on Krystal.  “So I was thinking that once the doctors give you a clean bill of health and release you that maybe you’d like to check out the Klingon station a little?”  He asked her as he sat next to her bed.  He was still a little unsure as to when would be a good time for him to actually ask her out, he didn’t have Daniel’s luck with women and the last major relationship he had, had been with A’vura and while that had luckily ended on mutual terms he hadn’t really thought of being with anyone else until he started spending the past few days with Krystal.

Although Meony had been allowed to leave as early as the second day after her initial self-appointed discharge during the Borg boarding and assault, she found herself having to come back so often, she found herself in the sickbay more than her own quarters this past week, and even though she was cleared for flight duty, the state of the ship and the standing down of active duty for the most part meant the doctors frowned on any strenuous activity on her part. Modern medicine, technology or advanced acceleration of healing aside, one did not walk away from a severe brain surgery without potential hiccups, and the doctors wanted to be intensely thorough in their observations of her progress and development post-operation.

Throughout that time, she had an unexpected volume of visitors, though unusually, none more frequent than one Uriah "Knight" Ahern.

While Meony had formed a strong bond of friendship with virtually everyone of the Resolve save for one or two particular individuals, going so far as to consider them family, she still maintained a unspoken distance with some, mostly because she'd never been sure of herself or them or both. But she would have been a fool not to notice the growing interest he had been showing her, and she found she wasn't utterly opposed to it, though it was too soon to tell whether it'd go anywhere. Still, she valued the attention, the interest, and also the companionship in light of the losses. More Resolvers had been lost, how much longer before it would be her, or Uriah, or Sinead? They were dropping like flies, and she for one didn't feel like dancing around shyly especially with a fellow Wolf.

Plus he piqued her interest, aside from her unusual friendship with Khorin, Meony had an affinity of sorts with Klingons, having been mentored by Jedediah, once a ambassador to Klingons, so she smiled and nodded her acceptance, “Ah would love ta,” she said and added, “ya think they have some quality gagh?”

Uriah smiled as she responded that she would love to, as for her next question he grinned. “I should hope so, it is a Klingon station after all and I’ve been waiting to try some live gagh, not the replicated kind.”  He said as he stood up and motioned for a nurse to come over.  A brunette Petty Officer walked over.  “Can I help you?”  She asked quietly so as not to disturb the other patients.  Uriah immediately recognized her now that she was closer, this was the woman that Daniel had been hooking up with, Riley Patterson was her name if he remembered right.  “Yes, I was wondering if it was alright if I took Meony here out for some time on the station?”  He asked her softly.

She walked over to Meony and took the Medical PADD which displayed all of her current medical information and skimmed it over.  ”Everything looks alright for you to take her out, just keep an eye on her if she collapses or if she has any sort of problems bring her back to sickbay immediately.”  Riley said to the pilot as she put the Medical PADD back and returned to her duties in the ward.  Uriah nodded, the last thing he wanted was for Krystal to have more medical complications, he knew that Daniel missed having her in the flight.

“Would you like to stop by your quarters first to put on something else to wear?”  He asked her.

An idea popped into her head as Uriah commented on living gagh, “Remahnd me t' introduce ya to Krada,” the little redhead commented to herself under her breath, “that'll be some fun.”

it struck her then how little she actually knew about the man. Three years together in a place called Hell Sector, and she knew everyone by name, and at least a little bit about everything in their histories, just like they knew hers (plus a little more whenever she got drunk as a skunk), she glanced up hopefully when the nurse came by. They were more stern with her and kept a hawk's eye on her after her stunt just an hour after a taxing surgery, where she'd left and joined the fight against the Borg boarding parties. She had, predictably, suffered some neurological stress and disorders due to her putting a strain on herself not to mention watching James and F'Rell's deaths.

As soon as they managed to bring her out of her catatonia, she checked herself out without a doctor or nurse knowing and held a little impromptu party to celebrate the lives of those lost. This time, under threat of bondage and tying her down to a bed, the girl finally complied and settled into an extended stay so that they can undo whatever damage she'd applied to herself and make sure there were no lasting damages. After the death stare by a nurse when Meony pretended to still hear voices telling her to kill everyone, the girl settled for lots and lots of pouting and sulking, until the visitors. And now, Uriah just got her her freedom. She'd kiss him, but sudden movements made her dizzy still, and the last thing she needed was more bedrest.

“Much obliged, sugah!” said Meony, grasping a lock of her hair in place of her hat since they wouldn't let her keep it while here. The nurse gave the redhead a longsuffering smile, then left, and she turned to look at Uriah with bright eyes and a small smile.

“Yeah, Ah sure as hell need ta change, cain't see mahself showin' up t' some Klingon do in these digs. Back in a few.”

She moved as quickly as was possible without pushing her limits. The trip to her quarters was relatively short. She just needed her hat, some civilian leggings, a plain white peasant blouse, and as many knives, sporks and sharp objects as she could reasonably carry on her person without getting too uncomfortable. Old habits died hard.

She made Uriah wait outside while she changed, promising to holler if anything happened. Fortunately, nothing did happen and the doors hissed open and she looked up at the man, “Think this is okay? Ah dang-it, hang on.” She went back in and came back with some nice boots on. “Thought Ah was fergettin' somethin'. Now how do Ah look?”

Krada? Uriah thought to himself, he wasn’t quite sure what that was but he was looking forward to finding out.  The trip to her quarters had been almost a mad rush, but then he too remembered what it was like to be stuck in sickbay with nothing to do so he understood her desire to get to her quarters and get into clothes she actually wanted to wear.  As for him he was content in his uniform for now, he might change into something else the next time he visited the Klingon station.  He didn’t have Daniel’s aversion to civilian clothing.

As she came out in the civilian clothing Uriah let out a low whistle.  “You look stunningly beautiful Meony.”  He said.  He took a moment or two to just admire her beauty before he spoke again.  “We should get going.  They might run out of live gagh.” He said with a chuckle, he was fairly sure that the station had an ample supply of live food.  He smiled at her and then led the way towards the nearest transporter room, that was currently the quickest way to get to and from the Klingon Station at the moment since the ship was separated into its Vectors.

Meony was surprised to feel heat in her cheeks at the mere compliment. A rebelious desire to disagree welled up quickly though. How could she possibly be beautiful? She was marked a hundred times all over her body and even on her head. The room-brightening smile she wore however betrayed none of this inner insecurities that she truly felt. In time, people who really cared to would be able to read the smiles and tell when she was really happy, and when she was just pretending to be happy for the sake of others.

“Thanks, hon,” said Meony, “but it'd be a cold day in Sto'vo'kor 'fore a Klingon outpost ran out of things t'eat. Especially Gagh. Fact is, if they did miraculously run out, they'd just eat each other...or us.”

It wasn't a lie, all things considered. Klingons could eat anything, including people. She casually slipped her hand into the crook of his elbow as he led them to the transporter, and a short trip later, they were no longer on the ship. She took a breath to steady herself when the nauseating sensation held on a bit longer than she was used to, and then smiled up at Uriah, “Ya got a specific place 'n mahnd? Or we wanna go for th' victory road and take a gander where we fancy?”

Uriah chuckled at her comment of the Klingons eating each other, or them.  “Well let’s hope that it never comes to that.”  He said with a smile.  Unlike his friend Daniel, Uriah liked Klingons, he liked most alien species with the exception of a few.  He’d grown up on Earth and had experienced hundreds of species and their cuisines.  He hadn’t really experienced Klingon cuisine but he knew that it was almost always live food with rare exception.

As they stood on one of the Klingon promenade transporter pads, Uriah was amazed at the sight of the station before him, there were dozens of vendors and restaurants and even bars.  “I don’t have a specific place in mind, I was thinking that we could walk and talk until we found a place that looked inviting.”  Uriah said, though to be honest he wasn’t sure what an inviting Klingon place would look like, everything was so militarily drab with them, though he was sure that Daniel would love the station, it did suit his style after all.

“I’m looking forward to exploring the station with you.  Shall we?”  He asked as he motioned for them to step down from the platform and into the station proper.

“By all means,” said Meony, and took his arm by the crook of his elbow, “When it comes ta Klingons, follow th' worst smell, th' sounda violence, and th' sight o' blood. Oh, and some piss too. Tha's the best place t' be for true Klingons.”

Pursing her lips, the redhead looked around, and saw and heard plenty of places that could match her description, only, that was perhaps too dangerous for either of them at this point in time. The alternative was she put up the best bluff ever seen and impress some Klingons enough that they don't harass her or Uriah, but not too much to make them infuriated enough to just call the bluff. That sounded like a lot of hard work right then, and she wasn't sure if Uriah was up for it. In fact, she didn't know much about what he was up for. She was a little wistful for Khorin's company. While Meony learnt all about Klingon culture from Old Man Jed and Heather Douglas, it wasn't the same as having someone who lived with the culture.

“Buuuuut if that's a li'l too much, mebbe we can hit one'a da less jumpin' corners an' risk th' quality with wha' passes fer a nice Klingon 'round 'ere. How much d'ya know 'bout dealin' with these fellers?”

She lifted her big brown eyes up to look at the RIO wonderingly. She had a d'k tahg from the Klingon she killed by landing her fighter right on him some days back sheathed into her boot.

“That’s definitely an interesting way to find a good Klingon restaurant.”  Uriah said as she explained how to find a good place for them to go to.  He honestly didn’t care where they went just so long as it had some good food.  His only real experiences with Klingons had been sorties during the war and the skirmishes that took place with his time on the Theurgy.  He had to admit that the Klingons had good pilots, which considering that since they are a warrior culture wasn’t really that impressive.

“I can take whatever they dish out, be it food or fighting.”  He said with a smile.  “Although I’ll let you decide since you have more experience with them than I do.”  He kind of hoped that she’d pick somewhere a little nicer just so that she gave her wounds time to heal, the last thing that he needed was to get an earful from the medical staff about that.  He was enjoying the walk through the station though with her arm interlocked with his, it almost felt like things could probably pass for normal, at least for a little bit.

They passed another restaurant that seemed to meet the conditions she had mentioned, maybe she’d choose this place, either way he was fine with whatever choice she made.

There was a shout in Klingon, and suddenly a huge burly Klingon was flying out the doors with debris belonging to either a table or chair. The man was back on his feet almost as soon as he landed and was charging back in. Meony and Uriah had paused for personal safety, to avoid collision with the big lug. There was a violent crash and the same Klingon was flying out a second time, followed this round by a squat, rotund female, and she was wielding an actual rolling pin the length and nearly the shape of a bat'leth.

< AND STAY OUT YOU SON OF A TARG!!! >” she shouted fiercely in Klingon at the man.

Though dazed and slightly battered the Klingon male certainly looked more than well enough to go a few more rounds, but he froze, stricken, then he scowled, and stalked a few steps towards the plump Klingon woman, “< SON OF A TARG?!? SON OF A TARG?!! WE'RE BROTHER AND SISTER! >

< I KNOW THAT, YOU IDIOT! AM I WRONG?!? >

After a moment, both of them burst out laughing, throwing their heads back and baring their teeth as they roared with laughter. The male leaned forward, slapping his palms against his knees, tears were streaming down his eyes. “< FINE, I'LL LEAVE. FOR NOW! >” he bellowed.

< GOOD! DON'T COME BACK UNTIL YOU'VE CLEANED YOURSELF UP! >” replied the woman with a jab in his direction with that ridiculous rolling pin of hers, but the big fellow was already stalking away. She was about to turn to go back in when she did a double take and looked Meony and Uriah up and down, then threw her hands out wide, “< VISITORS!!! >” she roared, and Meony actually took a step back, reeling from the force of her volume, and she had to subconsciously resist sticking a finger into her ear to check if it was bleeding. “< IF YOU'VE COME LOOKING FOR GOOD TIMES, FOOD, DRINK AND MORE, THIS IS WHERE YOU WANT TO BE!!! >

“M-much obliged...” said Meony with a squeak, “...livin' food's what we're after.”

She glanced up at Uriah and winked at him, then looked back at the woman.

< OF COURSE YOU ARE! KRAVA'S IS WHERE YOU COME FOR THE FRESHEST LIVING FOOD! COME! >

She practically grabbed them both and led them into the steaming red-lit room. Krava shouted something in Klingon that her translator didn't pick up, but every patron in the room, most of them Klingon, turned as one to look at the newcomers, and then they raised tankards or daggers and shouted in unison. The deafening welcoming roar made Meony shiver and wince at its potency, and this time she did check her ears to make sure they weren't bleeding. There was laughter, mirth, and roughness, but none of it aimed at them directly. “< COME, HONOURED GUESTS! KRAVA HAS TABLE FOR YOU! YOU WILL EAT THE FINEST KLINGON MEALS ONLY! >

Uriah watched a one of the largest Klingons he’d ever seen crashed through the doors and landed in front of them, he got right back up and went back into the restaurant and was tossed out a second time.  This was definitely one of the more stubborn Klingons Uriah thought to himself.  The a moment later a squat Klingon woman that was almost as tall as she was wide walked out yelling at the man she just kicked out.  After a few moments of yelling, although that was commonly how Klingons spoke to each other the Klingon male agreed to leave.

The small squat Klingon woman then turned her attention to them she yelled at them in Klingon but thankfully their communicators translated what she said.  Krystal managed to inform her that they were looking for live food and then the Klingon woman glanced up and winked at him, he was a little taken back by that but he brushed it from his thoughts as the woman grabbed them both and practically dragged them into her restaurant.  As the women shouted again in Klingon, the translator not being able to figure out what she said, he suddenly became a little nervous when every Klingon turned to face them.

As the Klingon woman guided them to a table and called them her honored guests he could only think back to a few days ago when they were fighting against the Klingons, oh how things had changed so quickly.  As they sat down Uriah looked at Krystal.  “Are you feeling okay Meony?”  He asked her, if she wasn’t he was ready to call for an emergency beam out back to sickbay, where he was sure to get an earful from the medical staff.  Once she confirmed that she was alright he nodded.  "So what is the finest live food that you have?"  he asked Krava.

"I don't know," she replied eventually, rubbing her forehead. The sounds, they were far too overwhelming. More so than they should have been.

Is this the same as I've felt in the cockpit lately, she wondered, and an unsettling feeling came unto her mind, remembering what had been removed from her skull just before the battle with the Borg in the Azure Nebula.

Another loud shout was heard, and it pierced her like a nail. The lights, they were also too bright, far brighter than they had any right to be.

"Daniel, I..." she said and ground her teeth together. "I...  I think I need to return to the ship. Something is wrong. It's not just now, but lately. It's become worse."

Little did she know that what had begun to affect her would lead to her leaving the Theurgy, no longer able to fly a Valkyrie. After all she'd been through, she'd never thought it would be a long-lasting medical issue that would clip her wings. But nonetheless, the last patrol she'd been on would have been the last. She'd never wear an exosuit again, and after having lost so much already, there was nothing left for her on the Theurgy.

Something had already died when the Resolve was destroyed, and Captain Kendrick had met his end.

For in accepting that he was actually dead, she realised... that some part of her was too.
