Title: CH02: S [D02|0110] Saving the Daqchov
Post by: JediMaster on August 08, 2020, 12:23:35 AM
Lt. Jg Akel Izavid | Upper Shuttlebay / Shuttle Tesla  | Deck 11 | Vector 1 | USS Theurgy ] @Pierce   @Argyros

Akel sat at the operations console proceeding through the standard pre-flight checklist for the shuttle they would be using.  He had already removed the surface vehicle from the back of the craft replacing it with power transfer banks, and emergency stasis units just in case some of the Klingon officers needed more advanced medical care then a standard Starfleet medical kit could provide.  Akel also was in the process of replicating approximately thirty emergency transporter tags.

While running through these processes Akel was also downloading the schematics of the Vor’cha-class Daqchov to his Padd. He had several different options in order to rescue the ship.  His first option was something he and his classmates at the academy had theorized and attempted several times during their operations coursework. It was true that both the craft he would be using and then one being rescued where different than anything they had used but the physics of the situation was the same.

Several of the tasks he was running were processing on their own and so he took a moment to run a simulation of his intended plan.  Assuming the Daqchov was completely out of power; he simulated connecting four transfer backs to the ship’s structural integrity field, rerouting the Tesla’s warp and shield power to the crafts tractor emitter, and varying modes he began the simulation.  The first two attempts failed, however after changing several settings and adding another transfer bank the simulated Daqchov performed a successful slingshot around the star.  It would take some fancy flying on the Tesla and the Daqhov but it would work "I knew it would work." Akel said to no one but himself and the shuttles computer.

[ Lt. JG Tessa May Lance, callsign "GoldenEye" (https://uss-theurgy.com/w/index.php?title=Tessa_May_Lance,_callsign_%22Goldeneye%22) | Tessa's Quarters | Deck 8 | Vector 2 | USS Theurgy ] Attn: @JediMaster @Argyros

[Show/Hide]

Tessa was prepared to go on this mission. Spending a few hours battling Klingons in the Holodeck in hand to hand combat had caused a few trips to the infirmary, despite them being not totally real. But she was as ready as she could be in the situation. The mission would take some quick thinking on various points. Akel had mentioned getting Derik Veradin, the Theurgy's Chief CONN officer on this mission. Although she didn't know much about him, he had a reputation of being quite good in a pinch and was a damn fine pilot to boot.

It was debatable if this was truly a sanctioned or official mission but it did have the blessing of a few higher-ups to proceed. So it couldn't be all that bad Tessa thought. She sat in her quarters preparing as no doubt Akel was doing in the shuttle-bay. She gathered up some tools she might need on the go, stood up, put on her uniform, and before leaving, she looked around as if she wasn't sure she would be back in this spot again. Taking a mental picture of her belongings, her journey so far, and where she would be in the future. Either way, hope-filled Tessa for the first time in a while as she was heading off to her first mission in since Aldea.

The corridors were full of normal traffic as Tessa rounded the corner before stepping into the turbolift. "Upper Shuttlebay, Deck 11, Vector 1" she said while maintaining her stance in the turbolift. Her thoughts were racing with excitement but not just from the mission. She was secretly looking forward to a mission with Akel since their time was cut short days ago.

The turbolift jostled around in different directions. To the untrained, it'd just feel like an elevator but to an engineer or a pilot, she could tell that the doors were getting close to opening at their destination. Standing at attention, Tessa stepped forward as the doors opened and she was across the hall from the shuttlebay. Although she was unsure if it was her or Derik flying the shuttle, she knew she had an integral part in this mission, along with Akel's technology expertise and attention to detail, they might just get back alive with some bonus points for the Theurgy with Martok.

The doors swooshed open and Tessa saw Akel running diagnostics and upgrades to the Tesla as she approached him in delight.

[ General Chu’vok | Wardroom | Deck 16 | Vector 03 | USS Theurgy ] Attn: @JediMaster @Pierce
”BLOODWINE!” The General called to a waiter. He was furious and needed something to dull the edge of his anger. DISHONORABLE! SHAMEFUL! How could they just leave their brother’s and sisters to such an undeserved fate?!? He drank greedily from the goblet that was brought to him, finishing it in a single go before demanding another. He’d been arguing with another General, Vor’Kel in the lounge their “hosts” had provided to them.

”HOW COULD GORKA LEAVE THEM?!? A HIGH COUNCIL MEMBER! A LEADER OF A GREAT HOUSE! SOTUGH DESERVES BETTER!” The General’s fury knew no bounds. He is an ally of Martok; of us all! A great warrior we are lucky to have and one that was trusted enough to be made a member of the high council! Without him, we lose a valuable voice!

”I know,” Vor’Kel responded, ”But what can we do? We have no ships in the area, and by the time we found one to dispatch, it would be too late. We can only hope Sotugh manages to get his ship operational again.”

”Yes. Either that, or Sto’Vo’Kor best be readying itself for the arrival of an honorable warrior.”

Little did the good General Chu’vok know, the plight of the IKS Daqchov’s crew had not gone unheard. A Trill made a hasty exit shortly thereafter, having been lurking along the edges of the room.

[ Lt JG Derik Veradin (https://uss-theurgy.com/w/index.php?title=Derik_Veradin)| Upper Shuttlebay/Shuttle Tesla | Deck 11 | Vector 01 | USS Theurgy ]
[Show/Hide]
The doors hissed loudly right after the turbolift arrived at the upper shuttlebay. Derik made his way to across the deck, pouring over the PADD he’d been supplied with. There wasn’t too much information as to what might be specifically wrong with the Daqchov, only that it had been damaged and left adrift to be pulled in by a star. He’d called for volunteers, of which two brave crewmembers responded: Assistant Chief Operations Officer Lieutenant Junior Grade Akel Isavid and Fighter Pilot Lieutenant Junior Grade Tessa “Goldeneye” May Lance.

He’d hailed the officers, instructing them to make their way to the Shuttlebay as fast as they could. The’d use the Tesla as it’s multi-mission functionality would serve them well. Argo class shuttles had space to spare, as well as being more powerful standard. When he walked up, Mr. Isavid was already aboard, making modifications to the ship. Good. That would save them time. Power Modules and stasis pods lined the space the rover had once occupied. Another smart decision. It might be cramped back there, but they’d be able to save as many as they could.

”Excellent work Mr. Isavid. I’m going to run final checks. Anything that is not secured is getting left behind. We can replicate additional supplies en route.  Dust off in no more than ten minutes. Time is off the essence.” The Trill informed Akel. While they were all of the same rank, Derik’s being a member of the senior staff gave him operational authority. He had no intention of using it as a crutch, but given the nature of the trouble the IKS Daqchov was in, ever moment was going to count. He heard the hatch behind him open but didn’t turn to see who else had come aboard. He’d hoped it was GoldenEye.

Tessa felt the cool air of the shuttlebay as she waltzed towards the small ship. Granted, it was not too badly sized but she was excited about the mission. Inside the rear entry of the shuttlecraft, she saw that Derik Veradin was also present. His stature appeared commanding. He must be in charge of the mission which honestly didn't bother her at all. She was just curious how this was going to work during the endeavor.

The feeling of excitement washed over her as she put a smile on her face and extended her hand as in putting up a salute during her fast approach. "Lt. JG Tessa Lance reporting for the mission." Her hand retracted back to her side as she waited to see what was going to happen. She loosened up and inquired about their status. "So are we ready to go yet? I see Akel is busy getting things situated. Anything you need me to do sir?" Her eyes flashed golden-green while she was bursting from adrenaline about heading out for the first time in quite a while.

She paid attention to Derik, but was peering into the shuttle to observe Akel more closely, trying to figure out what he was doing in there in his modifications. She clearly saw stasis pods in there for the sick and wounded as well as other bulkheads that allowed for sitting and storage. With any luck, they would have a relatively easy flight with all the prep work going on at present. Akel in charge of supplies and the technology made her feel at ease.

Derik on the other hand, she knew very little about other than he was a bridge officer but was well qualified in his flight capabilities.

Lt. Jg Akel Izavid | Upper Shuttlebay / Shuttle Tesla  | Deck 11 | Vector 1 | USS Theurgy ] @Pierce   @Argyros

Seeing Tessa appear in the shuttlebay out of the corner of his eye made Akel smile.  She was back in her Starfleet uniform just like Akel, however she looked much better in hers.  He waved somewhat haphazardly and was about to start up a conversation when he noticed another officer wearing command red walking up to the shuttle.  Akel noticed two things almost immediately; first all the officers on the away mission where the same rank, and second from the attitude of the new officer Akel was about to find himself in a very familiar situation of being ordered around by someone who had limited technical knowledge.

It didn’t take Akel long to be proven correct as the first words from the Trills mouth were orders to prepare the Tesla for take-off.  Akel would have to try very hard not follow his usual routine of badmouthing an officer in command of the mission.  “From an operations / engineering perspective we are ready to go Lt.”  He finished programming the tractor sequence into the Tesla’s main computer as he spoke, not looking at the new officer.  He noticed that Tessa was standing closer to him than the other officer which made Akel extremely happy.

Clearing his throat “We are ready to go whenever you are, I have run 3 successful simulations of the gravity sling shot plan.  I can explain it now, or once we are underway.”  He paused for a moment to allow the others to process his words before continuing “I figured Lt Lance would be excited to try this plan, I don’t think any Starfleet officer has ever flown a Klingon cruiser around a star on only battle thrusters.”  Finishing what he needed to do he gave his full attention to the two people near him “How would you like to proceed?” he asked to no one in particular.

[Show/Hide]
”Good to have you aboard GoldenEye. Strap yourself in. We’re heading out momentarily” He responded as Ms. Lance introduced herself. ”You’ll be on weapons and sensors until we reach the Daqchov. We’ll work the rest out then.” Having another pilot along was worth it’s wait in Gold-pressed Latium. The two of them would no doubt work well together. That being said, Tessa being a Wolf Pilot didn’t necessarily mean she could effectively pilot a larger starship. Guess time would tell but Derik had a high opinion of her regardless.

Akel however was going to be a problem. The Trill knew it as soon as the man opened his mouth. He had briefly gone over their personnel files before arriving, an some of the comments about the Assistant Chief Operations Officer’s attitude towards others of higher rank were starting to sound accurate. He wasn’t rude in the way he spoke, nor with what he said. But there was a cockiness to it that very well might cause problems later. He chewed on what to do for a moment before deciding a firm hand was probably going to be the, unfortunately, better choice of how to deal with the potential insubordination before it started.

”As for your idea Mr. Izavid, have you ever heard the phrase ‘The best laid plans only last until the first engagement’? Because if not, familiarize yourself with it. Your idea no doubt has merit, and I’ll be happy to hear all the details as soon as we are underway, but let’s get something straight right now: I understand we are all of the same rank. I respect the fact you are an Assistant Chief Operations Officer. I however am a member of the Senior staff and a department head. There will be a proper chain of command on this mission and I am at the top. Period. However, due to the size of our team, each of us will have to be autonomous to a heavy degree. We will all have to rely on each other. You are both free to do what you think is best to complete our mission, but the big decisions will come through me FIRST.” Derik knew he must come off like an ass but he didn’t care. Lives were at stake, and the more Klingons they saved, the easier the road ahead was going to be.

”Now if there are no more questions, we are heading out.” The Trill turned back around in his chair, powering the engines and requesting immediate clearance for departure. The authorization came back almost immediately, and with a practiced hand, the shuttle rocketed out of the hangar and immediately headed for the IKS Daqchov’s last known location.

Becoming acquainted with the Senior staff officer, Lt. JG Veradin, Tessa could tell he was a no-nonsense type of officer. However, she couldn't fault him for his attitude as mission commanders had to lay down the line and let their staff know what they expected of them. Tessa just felt bad for Akel for the harsh treatment. In the future, she decided that working with him on his manners with higher-ups needed addressing if he ever wanted to be promoted again. Either way, she was excited he was going along and she might get to fly a larger ship. Practice eventually for a bigger task if her future led her in that direction.

"Aye sir," Tessa said in response to the mission commander. Her feet clanged on the deck plates as she approached the cockpit area of the Tesla. There were chairs, much roomier than what her cockpit is usually like. But, she was interested in the slightly different panels available to her. Being assigned to sensors and weapons meant she didn't have to worry about maneuvering the ship but simply protecting it. Something she wouldn't mind doing for once.

She sat down in her chair, running her hands over the controls and getting familiarized with the displays on the ship. Although it was bigger than she was used to, she knew she could handle the task at hand if it came to actually pilot the small vessel. It had just been some time since she'd actually flown one.

The other two officers climbed inside the shuttle too behind Tessa and the cockpit. She closed the doors behind them as they prepared for departure. "We should be good to go Lieutenant. Sensors and weapons on standby and ready for liftoff."

Lt. Jg Akel Izavid | Shuttle Tesla  | Cockpit Cabin | USS Theurgy ] @Pierce   @Argyros

It did not take much effort, just a few tweaks in the power distribution network of the shuttle and the mission commanders console overloaded sending the cocky Lt. flying.  Akel acted horrified at event, although it was his doing.  Tessa and he quickly placed him in one of the status pods, true it was calibrated for Klingon vital signs but the worst it would do to humans is give them more pronounced forehead ridges.

Akel was daydreaming how to handle the cocky Lt, of course he would never really do it but it felt better to dream.  There is nothing Akel hated more than being spoken to in such a derogatory manner.  He was sure of one thing, although he did not know the name of the ‘senior officer,’ the guy was a complete asshole.  The man was a trill, obvious by the spots, but Akel would bet a shuttle full of gold pressed latinum he was not joined.  O if you only knew an ounce of what I do, Akel said in his own mind.  He was going to have to dumb down every little thing he said, at least Tessa was aboard.

“Alright Captain” Akel said trying his best to remove all condescension from his voice.  He actually had three different plans to rescue the Klingon vessel.  Having done the research, Akel knew the type of star the Klingons were falling into and adjusted accordingly.  Wanting to test out the decision-making skills of the ego fueled flyboy he posed a question “When we get there, our transporter will have a few problems breaking through the stars interference.  With your permission, as soon as we arrive, I would like to transport myself over to the cruiser and link their transporter to ours.  I am programming transporter enhancement tags and writing a clever little program so at your command we can start beaming over the tagged Klingons, plan b.” Waiting for the Lt. to respond, Akel started a timer on his PADD just to see how long it would take for the man to reply, only Akel could see it of course.

[ Lt JG Derik Veradin (https://uss-theurgy.com/w/index.php?title=Derik_Veradin)| Shuttle Tesla | Cockpit Cabin | Mid Warp ] @JediMaster @Pierce
[Show/Hide]
Derik sighed quietly to himself as the shuttle jumped to warp. A handful indeed. ”A bold plan. Also foolish as all hell. He set the autopilot and turned around in his chair to face the overconfident officer. First off, Permission denied. You will not beam over to the Klingon vessel as soon as we arrive. They don’t typically take kindly to being boarded, especially since they have no idea we are coming. But hey, If it’s your intention to die before being of real use, by all means. Disobey me. If it’s your intention to survive however, we will wait until we either get permission or they don’t respond. I think both Tessa and I prefer you not get yourself killed over something pointless. That being said we may have to dock first depending on the level of interference.”

”However we make contact, I approve of linking our transporters. It will surely improve pattern cohesion especially since being so close to a star will no doubt cause radiation interference, just as you pointed out. Enhancement tags should prove handy as well, since many parts of the Daqchov will be more heavily shielded. Additionally, it could lessen the strain on the Gravitational Compensator and Molecular Imaging scanner.” Derik had met officers like Akel before. He’d seen more than a few of them die too. A couple of them had even been his friends aboard the USS Resolve. The problem was not with how intelligent they were, it was the fact they often didn’t get a second opinion. The merely relied upon themselves and that lead to mistakes. But after spending three years trapped aboard a ship with a crew you basically rubbed elbows with constantly meant one tended to pick up things from other departments. He was by no means an expert, but he understood the underlying science.

As for rescuing the ship, we should also consider how we might be able to alter the Klingon’s structural integrity field to take them to warp. If we can dock and tie into their power systems with our own, in addition to the power modules you loaded, we might be able to warp them away from the star, even if we were only able to maintain the field for a second or two. The enhanced power systems on the Tesla just might be enough to get us there.” It was just as bold of a plan as Izavid's but at least they could break away if something went wrong.

Any other bright ideas we should go over before we arrive? You’ve got a little over thirty minutes.”

Her hands ran over the controls as she watched the vastness of space going before them. The view from the Tesla was sure different than in her Valkyrie. This was almost majestic and beautiful to behold she thought to herself. It would be even more peaceful if the boys in the back could quit arguing. She turned her head back to the two officers acting like king of the mountain on a playground. Her face showed she was amused by their behavior but didn't say anything else about it other than give a 'look' their way.

The controls ahead of her chirped as it detected a large ship on long-range scanners exactly as they expected to see. "Scanners are detecting the ship as we're getting closer to approach. It is a bit fuzzy on the details but appears to be adrift and running on emergency power." She tapped and ran her slender fingers across more controls and reading the results. "There doesn't appear to be any other vessels in the system."

She turned back around to see what they were up to now but an alert klaxon sounded overhead sending Tessa into a slight panic as she dove back to her chair. Her hands wrestled the controls again and she detected a vessel on an intercept course. "Lieutenant, I think you're needed back here now." She said with a little concern in her voice.

Lt. Jg Akel Izavid | Shuttle Tesla  | Cockpit Cabin | On the way to Die] @Pierce    @Argyros

It was painfully obvious at this point, listening to the Lt that things were going to be painfully slow and painfully mundane of this little away mission.  Akel wondered if he could change time, go back to his date with Tessa, and possibly be enjoying some time with her.  ‘Starfleet attitudes suck, see a problem find a solution’ he thought to himself while listening to the Lt.  He was caught in a little daydream about spending alone time with Tessa, when he was thrown back into reality by the plan presented to him.

The idea of creating a warp field inside the star was ludicrous, it would cause a solar ejection that would kill all of them, vaporize the Klingons, and cause a great deal of damage to the local solar system.  The officer was babbling about risk and yet he was suggesting one of the risky plans possible.  Akel did not expect everyone to understand astrophysics like he did, but was surprised that a Starfleet pilot would be so foolish.  He was tempted to say so to the brash, pain in the ass flyboy but catching the look on Tessa’s face made him calm down.  He may not be on the ships senior staff, but he was a senior officer by age alone.

Taking a moment to calm himself before responding, he thought on the fly how he could possibly make a version of the plan presented to him work.  Had the two males been alone of the Tesla, Akel might have been tempted to do exactly what was suggested.  Only saying ‘I told you so’ right before the craft got vaporized.  Tessa being there, changed his mind as he did not want her to die.

Waiting to complete another set of calculations before responding, Akel wanted to make sure to have enough science to back up his position. “Your plan may work, but we need to make a few changes.  If you will humor me for moment, I will keep it simple.” He paused a moment, looking at Tessa so he could avoid the cocky flyboy. “The Daqchov is too far into the suns gravity well, if we just power up their warp drive system two things will happen.  First, the craft will lose structural integrity and second, creating a warp bubble will create a Solar ejection that will destroy all of us.”

He paused a moment for dramatic effect and to make sure he didn’t miss anything “Also, approximately 10 minutes after we arrive the Daqchov will be far enough into the suns gravity well the Tesla will not be able to escape without being destroyed.  If you don’t want any risk, we can hail the vessel, dock in one of the shuttle bays, drop Tessa and I off, and then you take the Tesla off to a safe distance.  We can link the transporters, power up the Daqchov’s structural integrity field, and hopefully the impulse drive system, move the Daqhov to a higher orbit, and then execute your plan.  As an emergency backup, we can tag all those left of the Daqhov and beam them out through the linked transporters.”

He smiled, trying desperately to be polite, although he didn’t want to, he knew the young Lt. was flexing his command muscle and they had no more time to waste.  He waited for the man to either except his modified plan, or if he was that much of a conceded jackass reject it for an even dumber one.

[ Lt JG Derik Veradin (https://uss-theurgy.com/w/index.php?title=Derik_Veradin)| Shuttle Tesla | Cockpit Cabin | Mid Warp ] @JediMaster @Pierce
[Show/Hide]
Derik pinched the bridge of his nose between the pointer and thumb and closed his eyes in frustration. This was the problem with engineers. Despite his age, Akel was acting as if everything in his simulations was exactly what the situation outside was. “Book smarts over street smarts” as the saying goes. Or that if you set your mind on one assumption, nothing can change it. Perhaps this was the reason he was still the same rank as Derik despite his age and not a member of the senior staff. Whatever the explanation, Veradin took two deep breaths to center himself and remember that shooting fellow officers just for being thick headed was generally frowned upon. Despite how satisfying it might end up being.

Ultimately it didn’t matter. Nothing the Trill really said at this point was going to reach the Betazoid and arguing now wasn’t going to solve anything. Let him stay in his own little world. If he’s right then he’s right. If he’s wrong, then reality will pop that bubble for me. Probably better for me to save my energy for the next conflict anyway. Whatever the man was out to prove, the Trill hoped he'd find it without something terrible happening.

”Look, I get the bravado. I get that you’re smart. I read it in your file on the way here. Maybe you’re right. Maybe you’re wrong. But your one-man army act is going to get people killed. You cannot control the situation on your own. And acting like you can will only get you sent to the bri-“

It was at that moment that Derik’s ears caught Tessa calling out, her tone one of veiled concern. He turned around in his seat, accessing the sensors. A ship of unknown classification had just set off the long-range sensors. ”Red Alert. Weapons hot and deflectors to full. We maintain course. Send a tightbeam to Theurgy informing them of our status change. Other than that, buckle in.” All other concerns at that moment were dropped. The Trill set aside his personal issues and focused on the threat at hand. As if their mission wasn’t hard enough in the first place. Now they had this? Fuck.

If it weren't for the Red Alert klaxons overhead, Tessa thought she could see Akel and Derik coming to blows on the ship, but thankfully Derik humored Akel and let his tone slide. She knew Akel didn't mean any harm but she also knew that he could rub certain people the wrong way. She is pretty flexible and able to handle various personalities.

Her hands scrambled across the console quickly arming weapons, deflectors, and shields while maintaining long-range scanners with the possibly enemy vessel. Tessa was unsure the formation but it wasn't anything large by her estimates. "Lt. Veradin, it appears that the vessel is small in design. We should be able to handle this. Although not as armed as my Valkyrie, this ship is pretty well off."

Tessa's adrenaline was racing as she felt the thrill of battle and the unknown wash over her as it had in the past. Not having to deal with the flight as well meant that she could focus entirely on the defensive and offensive capabilities of the shuttle. She could get used to this some of the time.

Her head leaned over her shoulder and she looked at Akel, giving her a sign of hope before asking . "Lt. Izavid, do we have any other details on long-range scanners that you can decipher on the vessel? It almost appears to be an older styled Bird-of-Prey Klingon ship or that of an Orion scavenger scout. I can't make out any more details but it's following our destination which means they must know what we're up to."

Normally worry would have overtaken her but her mental resolve held strong as she turned back around. Derik was using his bridge officer status to help guide the team to the best possible outcome. Although slightly brash, Tessa could tell he was operating as any well meaning CO would in the line of a threat. He was trying to protect their crew and bring everyone home again safely.

"Weapons and deflectors are online and ready Lt. Veradin. Awaiting your commands." Tessa could be wrong but she felt as if she were a bridge officer in this situation. Although it was a smaller vessel than a starship, the vessel remained along similar controls and capabilities. Maybe this could be something worth looking into in the future she thought to herself stopping her daydream and getting back on task.

As Alessia and her copilot Asav Th'rehrol went over the readouts of the Valravn (https://uss-theurgy.com/w/index.php?title=AC-477_Mk_I_Valravn), their orders rattled off to them over the coms in their exosuit helmets.  Asav Th'rehrol and Alessia were the ones on deck currently at ready when Tactical CONN (https://uss-theurgy.com/w/index.php?title=Tactical_CONN) called for the immediate launch to investigate the signal sent by the shuttle Tesla.  "Are you sure that you are up for this, Lt.?"  Asav asked in a concerned tone.  "Hey the cute Doctor (https://uss-theurgy.com/w/index.php?title=Kate_Foster) said that i was fit for duty and besides there is no better way for a pilot to stretch their wings than this," she responded with a grin.  When the flight deck team gave them the thumbs up Alessia chimed to Tactical CONN, "Wolf 08, Ghost and Whiteout, requesting permission to disembark." Another series of orders rattled to them over the com moments before Wolf 08 lined up to the exit before lifting off the flight deck.  Seconds later they were outside the Theurgy turning about toward their heading as Alessia spoke to Asav, "We do not know if the unknown vessel is friend or foe; however, the Telsa is on a rescue mission and alone out there - there might be more."  Asav smiled as she replied, "All prepped for going in hot, Lt."  "Not sure which I like more - your sexy antenna's or that fact we think alike, Asav."

"Wolf 08, to Tactical CONN Theurgy, heading to assist the Telsa, Warp 8, Range 10.26 Astronomical Units, ETA 1 minute."    The sleek small fighter suddenly streaked forward into a blur as it punched into Warp.  "Asav when we arrive establish a tight beam message to the Telsa for an update of their status and scan for the trouble."
Alessia was worried.  Minutes and seconds are crucial especially in the coldness of space.  Her thoughts go to who went out on this mission as she did not know much about it.  All she knew is what Tactical CONN told her about the Telsa requesting aide, unknown ship on an intercept course to them after they were approaching the Klingon ship they went to rescue.  She knew that Derik and Tessa were on the Telsa, that knowledge eased her tension.  At least the Telsa had a superb pilot, Tessa, and Derik should be in command.  As she eased her fighter out of Warp 8 the stars stopped being a blurred mess, she engaged the impulse engines and increased to 900 Km/s.  As Asav began to scan the readouts of what is out there as we approach.
"Lt.  I am picking up on long range scanners the Telsa.  She is on course to a Vor'cha-class Klingon vessel, the Daqchov that is in a decaying descent to a star.  An unknown small vessel is on an intercept course to the Telsa."
"Open a tight beam to the Telsa,"
"Channel established."
"Telsa this is Wolf 08.  I repeat this is Wolf 08, approaching at 900 Km/s please respond."
"Warn that vessel off, Asav and send an update to the Theurgy."
Alessia increased speed to 1400 Km/s and sets on an intercept course to engage the unknown vessel before it reaches the Telsa.

Tessa was reading a particularly odd indication. Akel was working on something in the back from what she could see, so she answered the control panel. It displayed a narrow beam communication with the Theurgy. "Lt. Veradin, incoming transmission from the Theurgy. They're sending out a Valkyrie fighter, designation....hmm interesting. It's "Angel". She's on an intercept course with the old Bird-Of-Prey vessel that's closing in on us. What are your orders sir?"

Her fingers traced the panel quickly as she adjusted to her new temporary position of tactical. Deflectors now raised to full, and weapons powered up. They were going in for a possible fight. With hope, the Valkyrie would come in time to help mop up the mess or distract the vessel long enough for them to slip by to the Daqchov.

Looking back, she saw Lt. Veradin and Lt. Izavid working on various instruments in the vessel. She glanced back at the controls and sent an update and their coordinates on the narrow-beam channel to the Valkyrie pilot heading their way. With hope, and two good pilots onboard the Tesla, along with Lt. Izavid's technical smarts, they just might make it to their destination in one piece. Tessa was tasting what it was like to be on a different side of the fight being in a shuttle over a Valkyrie and to be honest, it almost seemed easier knowing you had a crew around you working on the other angles over being alone in a vessel and hoping the other Wolves were able to come to your rescue. But in this situation, Tessa was completely at peace and letting the adrenaline flow through her. She was ready for this fight!

Lt. Jg Akel Izavid | Shuttle Tesla  | Cockpit Cabin | Space Nearby the Daqchov ]

The calculations were in on the Daqchov and he had the data before him. It wasn't too late to assist the Klingon vessel in question. However, their time was diminishing the longer they had to deal with the enemy bogey fast approaching them.

Akel was working on the instrument panels attempting to make contact with the Daqchov, but the interference was too great. He tinkered with the controls more as he heard Tessa in the background mentioning that a Valkrie pilot was fast approaching from the Theurgy. That was good news indeed. "Tessa, er, I mean Lt. Lance, I believe that we can send off a deflector pulse, narrow beam to break through the interference, and alert the Klingon vessel Daqchov that we're fast approaching them. Can you calibrate the deflector from up there while I work on the encoded message and narrow beam pulse?"

He tried to stay calm, but thankfully his implant was allowing him to do so at present, avoiding the possible emotions that would be floating about on the shuttle right now. His hands tinkered with the controls as he prepped for the transmission.

Tessa heard Akel from behind her as she finished rattling off the information previously. He mentioned emitting a deflector pulse to send the message to the Daqchov alerting them of their arrival. "I think that's doable. I'll power up the deflector now." She motioned her hands across the various panels and activated the deflector. "I'm routing transmission controls back to you Lt. Izavid. You'll be able to send it off when ready." She stopped and looked at another indicator showing the enemy vessel was now in range and the Valkyrie was nearly on approach as well. "Here goes nothing," she muttered under her breath as the enemy vessel opened fire.

The Tesla shuddered with the weapon fire. "Direct hit! Primary shields down to 88%!" She glanced back at Lt. Veradin, "We could use some of that tactical flying sir." She watched as he headed towards the flight controls. She tapped the weapons and activated the phasers. She targeted the enemy vessel and fired. "Ugh, she's old, but she's fast. Almost too fast for this ship. I missed! Round two...and fire!"

She pressed the keys after locking onto them and managed to brush their topside. "Enemy vessel barely scathed. Indirect hit with their shields at 94%." Her hands swept across the board like a musical symphony, "Valkyrie is almost here to join us. Maybe we can shake them off and pass them on to the fighter pilot so we can proceed. Then Angel can meet up with us ahead."

Although Tessa was unsure what was going to happen, she was enjoying this all too much to be worried.

”Auxiliary power to aft shields. Shut down anything non-essential and divert it to engines. We can use the boost to stay ahead of them, maybe even slip out of weapons range. Signal ‘Angel’ to engage our pursuer. Perhaps she can get them to back down, otherwise she can keep them busy. If we slow to engage now, we might lose the Daqchov entirely. If we are to fight, I’d rather it be at our destination. That being said, continue firing. Maybe we can get in a lucky shot.”

Derik pushed the engines harder using the excess energy being funneled. All and all it wasn’t much and they didn’t gain much speed but every little bit helped. At warp speeds, evasive maneuvers were next to impossible. Faster than light, no left or right as the saying went. The ship rocked again as another hit impacted the shields. Fucking Shit. Could you please fuck off whoever the fuck you are? Whomever they were, they were doing a hell of a job harassing them in the short time since they arrived.

Damnit! Where the hell is Angel?!? Tell them to get these clowns off our ass! They weren’t very far from their destination now, only a few minutes. But if their shields didn’t hold the mission would be a failure. One good shot and the crew of the Daqchov could kiss their chances at a rescue goodbye.

A thought traversed Tessa's mind just now with the command to keep firing. Turning her head, she inquired to Lt. Veradin quickly while maintaining contact with the enemy vessel. "Lieutenant, what if we reconfigure the tractor beam to emit a repulsor beam. We could essentially launch them out of warp, and in theory, we could also propel ourselves faster to the Daqchov. They could get destroyed in the process of being thrown from warp or knocked offline for 'Angel' to finish the job."

Her hands gliding across the panel like a ninja as she locked and hit a few small portions of the enemy vessel. It was a slick cruiser for sure. Much more ammunition and mobility than they were currently capable of. Looking at the instrument panel she could see 'Angel' was nearly on them and the enemy. All they could do now is keep moving.

"'Angel' is closing in fast sir! Requesting permission to configure the tractor beam as a repulsor." She eagerly awaited in hopes that her idea would actually work. She muttered under her breath, "We're almost there guys. Just hold on."

Wolf 08, a Valravn-class Warp Fighter, streaked through space at high impulse.  Her instrument panels had been working to diligently to display the sensor readouts of the enemy vessel on long range scanners - it had zoomed in on a critical flaw the old bird of prey has that Alessia learned well during the Dominion War when she fought alongside the Klingons.  The underside of the ships hull had a critical flaw, it was vulnerable to certain weapons if the ships shields were weakened.  While the pilot worked on their tactical plan and had prepared the Valravn weapons systems, other panels behind her pilot had been working to display the sensor readouts of the Telsa and the Daqchov.

Asav Th'rehrol, the co-pilot, said in a urgent tone, "Lt. the Telsa will not reach her destination before the unknown ship intercepts her.  If we are going to do this we need to do it now."
Alessia Garcia, the pilot, responded in a calm tone of voice, "Relax Asav - it is all about timing.  Prepare to initiate the Hopscotch Jump."
Asav said in dumbfoundedness, "Hopscotch Jump?  You're tactical mind is amazing Lt. but your naming if i may say .... sucks."
Alessia smirked, "Everybody's a critic."
Asav shook his head before he began to stare at the sensors, "The unknown ship has engaged the Telsa.  She has taken a hit but her shields are holding, Lt.  Lt. the Telsa has boosted her engines but it will not be enough against that Bird of Prey for long."
"Just a moment longer - don't worry the Angel's are coming,"  Alessia said low to herself.  She had known that her Valravn this entire time has been seen by both the Telsa and whoever is in that Bird of Prey streaking across subspace toward them and wouldn't reach them in time.  Seconds count. "Time for our que Asav - open a channel to that ship."
"Channel open, Lt."
"This is Wolf 08 to the Bird of Prey attacking the shuttle craft - you will break off immediately and adjust your course away from her."  After Asav had closed the channel and their expected part in this play had been initiated, they both braced themselves.  "Punch it Asav."

In a blink of an eye the Valravn had vanished on the sensors as it went into warp, the small warp fighter had surpassed it safety parameters, consoles flared red when systems reached dangerous levels of stress.  In the span of a short moment when the Valravn reappeared it had been to late for the Bird of Prey to react.  While Asav worked hard to compensate for the stress the ship had been under, Alessia eyed the underside of the Bird of Prey as it came into view through her cockpit window.  The sudden maneuver had brought them on a course vector coming up from underneath the Telsa and the Bird of Prey and Alessia did not hesitate as she fired.  Two beams blasted from the Valravn as the Type VIII Phaser Arrays came to life in a sustained burst to weaken the shields to the underside of the Bird of Prey just moments before two RF Mk II Micro Torpedo Launcher Arms shot out and hit the belly of the beast.  The first 70-round 30cm Micro Torpedo weakened the rest of the enemies shields enough for the second one to cause severe damage past it's shields and knock the Bird of Prey off the Telsa and forced it to slow down.

"Open a channel to the Telsa, Asav."  "Channel open, Lt."  "I think i will dance with our friend out here, Telsa.  One of you owes me a box of genuine cigars!"

"Damnit Asav what is the problem," Alessia said.  The Valrayn had slowed down in its combat subspace speed from a drop in power.
"The stress caused severe systems to malfunction I am attempting to reroute power, Lt." Asav said as he had already began working on the issue.
Whilst the Telsa had continued ahead after the surprise maneuver they managed to pull off the small fighter known as Wolf 08 was left to contend with the Bird of Prey.  Both of which were all ready turning about in a wide vector toward one another, each ship assessed their damage and scanning the other.  Alessia said to Asav and herself, "Great, the beast is old but I have seen these Birds in the War.  We are in for a fight, Asav."
"She is cloaki-,"  Asav had stopped mild word when the Bird of Prey blurred out of sight only to reappear.  "Her cloaking system must be damaged, Lt."
"Fortune favors the bold, Asav!  Hopefully the Telsa knows what they are doing on rescuing those people," Alessia had said just before Wolf 08 gets hammered by a disrupter blast.  Both of the forward Phaser arrays flare to life at the enemy ship as Alessia engaged in evasive maneuvers.  "Shields at 90 percent, holding .... Phasers had minimal effect, their shields holding at 96 percent,"  Asav had spoken in a calm tone even though he was nervous but they had flown together and been in two many scraps for nerves to cut through the edge.  "At least we got their attention!  Now get the power rerouted are we are going to become space dust."

The scene of Wolf08 being closed in on by the Bird of Prey which fired its disruptors at the smaller fighter pulled back from view.  As the angle of view got further away it showed keen combat skills of the Valrayn evading the fire but not as successful as she normally might be able to getting hit a few times.  Even though with the drop in power the Valrayn was far from helpless and did fire its two rear mounted Phasers at the enemy ship weakening it shields.  As the camera view of the battle turns away toward the Telsa, the Bird of Prey launches two proton torpedoes at Wolf08.

”Negative.” The Trill replied as Tessa requested to modify their tractor to a repulsor. ”In order to use it, we would have to close to near point blank range. We risk too much letting them get that close. They are already hammering our shields. If they damage the tractor as well, we lose a valuable tool to save the Daqchov.” It might have been a good plan had they not been on a rescue mission and instead only running from their pursuer. In this instance though, it was too dangerous of a gamble.

Just then the fire on their aft shields ceased. ‘Angel’ communicated their intent to hold the Bird of Prey off. And then something about cigars. Odd form of payment given you are doing your job. He thought to himself. But thanks anyway. Strange pilot. ”Thanks Angel. Tesla continuing to mission objective.”

Derik throttled back on engines, returning to within normal operating parameters. The strain on the systems reduced, Veradn breathed a little easier. They were only a few moments away from their target now and the adrenaline rush wasn’t helping. He took several deep breaths to calm his racing heart. Slowly, like a giant turbine winding down, the jitters slipped from his body. One unexpected hurdle over. Now for the real mission.

”Arrival in 5…4…3..2..1…” The Tesla dropped out of warp, the blaring light of a sun filling the screen. Derik tapped the controls, polarizing the screen against the harsh view. A few hundred meters off their starboard bow, the IKS Daqchov drifted closer and closer to it’s impending doom.

Tessa listened to Lt. Veradin's explanation and nodded in understanding before manning the controls again. "Aye sir."

She was having fun persistently keeping away from the old classed Bird of Prey. Seeing 'Angel' coming in and taking shots at them was making her day even more excitable as she noticed they could no longer activate their cloak. Another one for the Lone Wolves! The sense of humor for their lot was also a bit different. She noted the look of confusion and acceptance from Derik as he was piloting the Tesla and replying to her quips.

Watching the sensors and the screen, Tessa could see they were on approach as she heard Lt. Veradin countdown to their arrival of the IKS Daqchov. The blaring sun was very bright, but Derik polarized the screen to prevent their eyes from being burned out of their retinas.

"What do we do next sir? I recommend we put on our environmental suits to prevent any radiation poisoning. I suspect their crew will have a similar issue and we won't be much help to them unless we tackle that first."

Standing up as they were on approach and Derik was doing the piloting, Tessa walked over to the chamber where her Valkyrie pilot exosuit was hanging. She brought it along as it would prove more useful in the field than a traditional environmental suit. Sitting on a bench, she carefully began assembling the suit over her uniform. Typically she'd just strip down to her undergarments and the suit, but that was extra time they didn't need to waste at present. Plus if she needed to get it off quickly, this was easier to be duty ready.

She looked around and saw that Akel was a little jarred from the fight but was still standing firm in the back configuring the pods for the radiation and the new tenets they were about to onboard as soon as they could get over there.

"What are your orders on how we should proceed to the ship?" she said to no one in particular hoping to elicit a response of what their plan of attack was for rescuing Martok's men. If this worked, they and the Klingons and Martok would be indebted to them and the Theurgy. It would be a great peace offering and show of support as well. Hopefully, they succeed.

The two torpedo's streaked across space at the Valravn which showed signs of power fluctuations and the Captain of the Klingon Bird of Prey hoped for a quick victory as the sudden strike made earlier did significant damage to various subsystems on the old ship along with it's cloaking device.  Alessia did her best to evade the disruptor fire; however, those torpedoes had a lock on them.  "Um, Asav ... Asav!"  "Not helping Lt," Asav retorted in a calm tone of voice as he finished rerouting main power.  When all the panels went green and Asav had been shouting out in excitement, Alessia hit the  ECM (Electric Countermeasures) and banked hard to Port pitching the ships Centreline to rotate at a 45 degree angle whilst she pulled the ship's Bow upward hard to come about toward the Bird of Prey.  The two micro torpedos full of shrapnel and debris with the ships transponder signature and sensor reading shoot from the Valravn confused the enemy ordinance and caused it to think the cloud of debris was the target.  The detention of the two photon torpedoes was a site to see; however, it was clear to everyone that it was not the small fighter that exploded as Alessia had punched their velocity to reach it's combat speed of 1400 Km/s.

"All right Asav I know that all we need to do is keep these bastards busy so the Telsa can complete her mission but these assholes were letting Martok's people die in a dirty way. "  her blood was pumped as she was pissed off.  "I would say then Lt.  that we teach them a lesson."  Asav commented rather upset himself.  Martok and his loyalist were allies of theirs and although Alessia and Asav were not involved much with that coming about this pink skinned human and blue skinned andorian were both firm believers defending their allies.  More to the point it was Martok that rose in renown and honor during the Dominion War which they both fought in.  "Open a channel to those bastards, Asav." "Channel Open, Lt."  The Valravn swifty on an attack run to the Bird of Prey evaded a flurry of disruptor fire and Alessia's message to the old bird was heard as Wolf08 fired both of her forward Type VIII Phaser Arrays at the enemy ships forward shields.  "yuDHa' Martok soltaH DawI' Daqchov!" which translated in Terran to 'For the honor of Martok and the Daqchov!'  Two things happened immediately after Alessia's battle cry.  First she released a Mk I Hellhound Cluster Bomb.  Second the old Bird managed to hit the Valravn with a disruptor blast.

Wolf08 lost her attack run vector to swiftly pass the old Bird and instead she spun about out of control.  "Shields at 55 percent and Ablative Hull Armor 85 percent, Lt"  Asav managed to get out frantically working behind Alessia.  The threat the old Bird posed had been known to them all ready as most of the KDF ships had been upgraded during the Dominion War.  Alessia in the forward cockpit relied on her new exosuit to keep her body well while she had been counting in her head ..... '3 2 1'.  The Cluster Bomb was a photon torpedo filled with several micro torpedoes. Once the torpedo came in contact with an enemy, it detonated and fragmented into smaller torpedoes, which spread from the point of impact, also exploding on impact, resulting in a large pattern of torpedo detonations. Alessia deployed one set to manual deployment of the scatter.  The panel altered as the spread changed to her knowledge of this class of ship which she was familiar with and she hit the trigger.  The result was the Cluster Bomb pounded the Birds forward shields, weakened by the Phaser fire, and the spread spring out into a cluster to cause maximum damage to the Bird.

"bInajtaHvIS bIhuvchugh, vaj qeylIS!" was the cry that came from the old Bird which in Terran means "You will die like the honorless dogs you are!"
"Ooh huh we made them mad, Asav - let's add insult to injury shall we?"  Alessia pushed a button on her exosuit then another.  "It must have been your charming personality, Lt."  Asav said laughing.  The first button changed her bio readout to that of a Tribble and the second played Tribble cute wobbly sounds on an open channel.  Both the Valravn and the Bird of Prey had keep a respectful distance after their previous engagement.  Alessia knew that her insulting joke to the crew of that ship was discovered when the Bird of Prey turned hard about firing it disruptors in a brazen attack run which is what she wanted.  While Alessia performed evasive maneuvers keeping the Bird of Prey on them and leaving the Telsa free to do their rescue mission, Asav, noticed on one of his panels a flashing red warning as something serious was happening after the Cluster Bomb had been released from the underside of the Valravn left wing, possible sabotage as he was certain no damage had accorded there beforehand.   "Lt. we have a big problem.  Do not fire anymore of the mounted torpedoes!"  "What the hell, Asav?"  "Possible sabotage, Lt."  "Shit!  Contact the Telsa and let them know to look out for that."  Asav had are ready begun to send a coded tight beam to the Telsa to warn them.

Tessa noted as they were on arrival that 'Angel's signal was incoming to their systems. Fingers that of lightning strummed across the board as she read the encoded message. "Possible sabotage. Be on the lookout for that. Our mounted torpedoes compromised."

Head cocked to the side, Tessa relayed the message to Lt. Veradin. "Sir! 'Angel' just checked in and while she's handling the Bird of Prey, she did advise that their mounted torpedoes are compromised due to sabotage. Said be on the ready for it here. There is a possibility that the same issue resides here on board."

Checking over the instrument cluster, she didn't detect any issues with the sensors, nor the controls she'd been using. However, if there was a problem, it's likely too late to rectify on this end of things. It'll either be a delayed destructive force like the Spearhead Lounge or be something that shows itself in due time. Whoever was behind all of this certainly doesn't want Martok or anyone in favor of him to succeed.

"I recommend we power down unnecessary systems and prepare for boarding the IKS Daqchov. Although our shuttle could be compromised, theirs might be able to be repaired and pulled out of there yet. Unless they too had been sabotaged and then we're sorta screwed." Her face held a dumbstruck look as she tried to piece together who it might be behind this.

Derik ignored the human for a minute, focusing on the ship before him. The Klingon cruiser had obvious damage, plasma leaking from it’s port nacelle. Serious scoring marks dotted the hull, and even from the outside, the Trill could tell that several sections had depressurized. No bodies though floating around thankfully. They would have been disintegrated by the intense heat already. Small mercy. Small condolence. How many had been lost already? How many were left? No time to speculate. They needed to find out for sure and rescue as many as they could.

A few moments later, the questions and information began registers in his minds. ”You will have to think for yourself GoldenEye. Like I said earlier: each of us will need to be acting with heavy independence. Please begin initiating said autonomy. Only the big decisions need to come through me. Other than that, do what you do best: tackle the situation. As for the torpedos….” Why the hell would we need torpedoes for a rescue mission around a star? ”….shut down kinetic weapons. Our phasers seem fine given the use they just got. We’ll run a full diagnostic check on the torpedoes when we get back.”

Veradin swung the Tesla around to the front of the cruiser, directly outside the bridge’s viewport. A couple of quick taps opened a channel for anyone onboard to hear. ”This is Derik Veradin of the USS Theurgy to anyone onboard. We are hear to provide any and all assistance to the honorable officers of the Klingon Empire. Out here, away from battle is no honorable way for warriors to die. Please respond.” Laying it on a bit thick, but the less they had to fight the crew the better. Time was of the essence. No response. Nothing. Not even a pulse on the com channel.

”IKS Daqchov please respond.” Still nothing. He waited a full 60 seconds. ”Alright screw it. I’m bringing us around. Let’s get suited up and over there.”

A little flustered at the response she received from Derik but she knew he meant well overall. He was right though. She did need to think autonomously in this situation. Here fingers strummed the colored digital buttons gently as she deactivated the torpedoes and diverted the power to the deflectors and radiation at hand. Derik was right too that we can run a diagnostic later and the phasers did work when they were used. So not much to go on so far.

"No problem." She replied to Lt. Veradin. She was wondering if Akel was faring very well. He'd been in the back tinkering for some time but figured he had what he needed to keep things handled. Tessa already suited up for the venture to the Klingon ship grabbed a medkit and a phaser rifle from the armory compartment in the sidewall of the Tesla. Mounting it to her hip and throwing the medkit over her shoulder, she prepared for departure as Derik brought them about.

It was alarming to her not to hear a response. Either they were all unconscious, hostage, or dead. It didn't look good but she was prepared. Stepping closer to the back of the ship, she prepared to board the Klingon ship.

"As soon as we're in range, I'm good to go. We can leave Lt. Izavid manning the shuttle as we go off on the search and rescue. Hopefully, we find some of Martok's men on board alive to bring back with us."

Reaching over, Tessa picked up the helmet, observing her visage on the glass before placing it over her head and securing it to her suit.

The Trill brought the ship around, positioning the shuttle at the starboard docking port. He extended the docking collar and clamps, which had difficulty locking onto the Klingon ship for few moments before finally attaching themselves. He checked the seal. Not pressurized. Damn the damage was extensive. Through the docking collar, the helmsman transferred a little energy, trying to get the emergency forcefields to activate.

But the damn things refused to kick on and eventually he just gave up. Instead he attenuated the internal forcefields to make a sort of airlock. By using the fields, they could open the hatch without depressurizing the inside of the shuttle. He set them to only open when the other fields were up and a few moments later everything was set.

A few short steps later he joined Tessa, grabbing his gear. Methodically he donned it, checking each connection twice before moving on. When he was finally dressed for this little jaunt, he grabbed a phaser, holstering it on his hip. ”We have no idea the state of the crew. Given the damage to the outer hull, it’s possible they might be experiencing hypoxia from lack of air. They may be suffering from hallucinations which could in turn cause them to be violent. Keep a weapon at your side just in case.”

Picking up a repair kit, he stepped inside the makeshift airlock and waited for Tessa to join him.

Tessa stood at the ready as she watched Lt Veradin put his suit on. She watched him checking the instruments before he approached her with some words of what to be ready for. "We have no idea the state of the crew. Given the damage to the outer hull, it's possible they might be experiencing hypoxia from lack of air. They may be suffering from hallucinations which could in turn cause them to be violent. Keep a weapon at your side just in case."

She nodded, "I agree, the crew could be suffering from any number of issues. I'll be ready." Tessa saw that Derik was waiting for her on the platform to the cobbled-together airlock, and she proceeded to walk onto it, joining his side.

"Akel, watch the ship and if Ghost or Whiteout arrive, have them keep watch around the Tesla and the Daqchov. Never know what to expect anymore. Be prepared for injured." She watched him give a nod and turn back to the control panel he was working at before she walked through the airlock to the Daqchov.

She grabbed her tricorder to scan for the crew. Strange... her tricorder was picking up Klingon and human life signs. That shouldn't be possible she thought to herself. Fortunately, that conundrum could wait as a Klingon officer came staggering over to her before falling to the deck plates of the dark ship. She pulled from her medical bag a hypo to innoculate the soldier on the ground. For a Klingon to die of lack of air didn't seem to be an honorable way for him to go out she thought to herself.

The lights were flickering in the midst of the corridors as the two officers stepped around the fallen Klingon officers. "We need to find environmental controls to help these crewmen get on their feet. I have no idea where it would be in this place though."

As she proceeded to scan, a Klingon soldier came barreling down the hallway. SoH 'Iv? Heghlu'meH QaQ jajvam! He dashed, large arms outward and grabbed tightly around her waist, attempting to pry the phaser from her side as he squeezed to crush the are out of her. Her chest felt tight as her lungs were having difficulty breathing. Despite having the air supply in the suit, and he didn't, he was doing his best to crush the life out of her. She barely managed to squeak out the words, "...Help me..."

A hand came out of the shadows with a metal beam and clobbered the hefty Klingon over his head. His body slunk to the floor releasing Tessa so she could breathe again. The woman turned and saw a slender shape in the shadows step out wearing a breathing mask and a slightly charred Starfleet uniform. The individual was a redheaded female who stood with her hair pulled back, still holding the beam before tossing it on the ground.

"You wouldn't believe how handsy some of these Klingons can get when they're oxygen-deprived. You just have to show them who's boss." She winked at Tessa in a friendly but no-nonsense manner. She glanced at Tessa and sized her up and down, as well as Lt. Veradin. "Starfleet, good. We have some work to do here. Most of the crew is unconscious but there are a few stragglers." She stepped back towards the shadows and stepped further out of view heading in another direction seeing if they'd follow her.

Boarding the Klingon ship was nerve wracking. The halls were laced with scorch marks from internal explosions. Bulkheads were ripped asunder like wet paper in a child’s hands. Ship internals lay exposed like a book for anyone to examine. In a weird way it seemed kind of what one might find if the ship had been an actual Klingon in a hand to hand fight. Wounds everywhere, blood leaking, entrails spread, etc.

So finding crew laid out on the floor was not surprising. A few of them were dead but one was still breathing, if only shallowly. Tessa moved to assist, pulling out the first aid kit and treating the warrior. While she worked, Derik stepped off to the side to a nearby terminal, trying to access internal systems. The console displayed so much confused information, much of it scrambled in unintelligible nonsense. The main computer core must’ve taken a hit sometime during the battle.

Attempting to put the pieces back together blinded the Trill to the approaching crazed Klingon, whom rushed his crewmate in a fit of confused rage. He wrapped his arms around the smaller woman, attempting to crush her with brute strength. As soon as she cried out, Derik spun, unholstering his sidearm. ”LET HER GO WARRIOR! SHE IS NOT THE ENEMY!” He pointed the phaser at the two of them but in their struggle could not get a clean shot. He had to get the damn brute off her before she suffered any sort of meaningful injury.

Out of the dark came the answer, as a metal beam struck the Klingon over the back of the head. His body instantly went limp as he lost consciousness, releasing the pilot and collapsing on the floor like a sack of potatoes. But instead of lowering his weapon, Derik instead adjusted his aim as a woman emerged from the shadows. She didn’t seem immediately threatening as she indicated for them to follow. Derik looked at Tessa and merely shrugged. ”Follow her I guess. But keep your weapon ready. Likely to see more cuddly Klingons.”

She looked back at the redheaded woman as she waltzed off. Tessa looked back at Lt. Veradin and chuckled as she pulled out her phaser to the ready. "Well... I guess we follow her then. These Klingons sure are strong. Still not quite sure how she managed to subdue that one back there." she said shifting her head back as if to nod backward at the unconscious form behind them.

The bulkheads were sparking with multiple damaged points, and the lights flickered in the dark. Tessa activated a handheld flashlight to see ahead. "Hey you! How many of the Klingons are alive on this ship?" She waited for a response as she continued walking with Veradin nearby. Her head glanced in either direction as she scouted around her waving the flashlight into the shadows. Each step made her wonder if another slightly oxygen-deprived Klingon would come barreling out at her again on the attack.

A few corridors later, they made it near a room that somewhat resembled an environmental controls station. Of course, it was all in Klingon, and Tessa didn't know how to read that. "Well, it looks like we've found the environmental controls, but I don't read Klingon. Do you miss...?" Her spoken words lingered as she awaited the reply from the pretty redheaded woman. Secretly she wondered how the other female looked when not covered in ash from the ship's damage, and also because the lighting was so messed up on this ship. The flickering lights continued, but it was a reddish hue that enveloped the scenery.

She muttered to herself and phrase of encouragement not realizing that the others could hear her still in this quiet and barely functioning vessel. "The darkest hours are just before dawn." She shook her head and looked back at the officer in front of her. "So what are you doing here?"

[Show/Hide]

After the scene clubbing the Klingon officer and her abruptly walking off, Pierce was ready to leave this dump of a ship. Her mission to the Theurgy was already severely delayed as is and this tattered ship wasn't helping matters any. She looked around, her ponytail swinging behind her neck as she turned her head, but she didn't see what she was looking for. "Damn..." she said under her breath.

Thankfully, she had practice surviving on Klingon vessels in the past, albeit of an older specification. Quickly she approached a console, her feet moving softly but swiftly. She tapped a few commands as the sound of footsteps belonging to Tessa and Derik rang behind her. She didn't need to turn around to confirm it was the Starfleet officers as she was familiar with their stealth tactics. Not to mention that Starfleet officers are quieter, and lighter on their feet compared to the Klingons.

Her hands tapped a few controls as Tessa was behind her. The voice asked for her to halt, but she hadn't found everything yet and chose to ignore the junior officer. She chose however to respond to the inquiry on surviving Klingons. "Honestly, I really don't know. I would estimate somewhere around 20 to 30 remain. Many were blown out of the hull when we were fired upon and disabled. Others died of asphyxiation. I'd suggest tagging them for transport since I can assume you brought a small ship of some kind to rescue them."

Pierce discovered the console she was seeking and tapped a few controls into her tricorder and laid it on the keypad as she proceeded to key in a sequence and begin a data transfer. Again the blonde spoke to her, although slightly annoyed, she decided to answer the quirky individual's request. "I actually do read Klingon. And the name is Pierce. Lieutenant Jessica Alana Pierce. You can call me Alana or Al for short."

Next to the blonde, Pierce saw Lt. Veradin and was still somewhat unfamiliar with the Trill species. Something she'd have to learn later. "You!" she pointed at Derik. "Are you the officer in charge here?" She waited for a response from Derik as she was forced to answer another of the cheeky blonde's questions. "If you must know, I am on an important mission, of which I cannot divulge at this time." Turning her head back to Derik. "What ship are you with?"

Walking down the corridors, looking at all the damage gave Veradin a pretty good idea of just how fucked the ship was. Ruptured conduits leaked the lifeblood of the vessel and everywhere he looked, something was sparking. A display, half dead, was throwing warning signs in Klingon. The symbols flashing violently as they passed.

When they finally reached what appeared to be the environmental control room, Derik stepped off to one side, checking one of the few still functioning consoles. His understanding of Klingon was limited but he could get a rudimentary understanding of what was going on. The engines, for lack of a better way of describing it, were gone. Non-salvageable by the looks of how much of them were actually missing. The hull had been cracked like an egg and basic life sign readings were far fewer than there should have been. Most of the crew was already dead. Shields were functioning at their lowest settings, only just keeping the heat below tolerances which was probably why they had no trouble boarding. This ship was lost. The crew just didn’t know it yet.

So when their “guide” started spouting off answers to the various questions that had been asked like bullets from a old earth machine gun, the Trill had to focus just to keep up. She revealed here “name” which may or may not have been true and was hurriedly interfacing the ship’s data system with her tricorder. Was she trying to get something? A question for another time. She already was being very shady with the details of her “mission”.

”Yes I am.” He answered matter-of-factly. ”Lieutenant Junior Grade Derik Veradin. Chief CONN officer of the USS Theurgy.” He turned to Tessa and spoke in a softer voice. ”She’s right. This ship probably only has minutes before it’s gone. We should get started on the crew.”

The ship was falling apart. Hearing the wise words of Pierce and Derik, she was inclined to agree. The ruins were surrounding them as well as various Klingon bodies. Her tricorder in hand, she scanned many of them, where some were still barely alive. "Lt. Izavid, prepare to receive Klingon refugees in the stasis pods."

"Aye, I'll be ready for them Tessa. Begin when ready."

She turned back to the task at hand and began placing beacons on the fallen soldiers of Martok. Little by little, blue waves of energy enveloped the individuals off the ship. Her mind was still a bit off from hearing the familiar last name of this mysterious human officer. She remembered her academy days when she met someone with the last name of Pierce. It was a bit jarring being she watched the other young Cadet blown outta the sky when they were navigating the Sol system.

Snapping back, Tessa gathered a few more Klingons, among them she saw General Sotugh also unconscious with some light burns on his flesh and uniform. Martok should be pleased with his General being alive. She tagged them with the transponder beacons before bumping into Lt. Veradin again. He mentioned that the ship likely had minutes left before they could get free with what crew they could muster. "That sounds like a good idea, sir. I've tagged the Klingons in this area and will head back to the ship to prepare for departure. Might not be a bad idea to check in on our mysterious help here and see what she knows as you prep to leave. See you soon!"

Tessa waltzed off, her space suit was still intact and she re-pressurized her suit as she traversed the corridors back to the temporary junction between vessels. She crossed the chamber and stepped back on the deck plates of the Tesla before taking her suit off. Taking stock of the filled pods, this would hopefully bode well in their alliance with Martok and the Empire. Hopefully, the Theurgy made some friends today in this act of duty for a fellow lifeform.

The Klingon vessel was getting close to a warp core breach or being pulled into the star. Either way, Pierce knew it was time to depart and fast. The panel she was staring at, although entirely in Klingon, was indeed giving her the information she required. These unfortunate soldiers were dealt with this hand of death for their loyalty to Martok and for discovering some intel on the various instigations between factions. Poor bastards she thought to herself.

Her download finally completed to her tricorder. These devices were most impressive still to her for how different, compact, and quick they worked compared to their 23rd-century counterparts. Evolution in technology was a beautiful thing until it inadvertently malfunctions. She punched in a few keys to encrypt the device before she shrugged, her hand closed the tricorder, and finally holstered it.

She turned, seeing Tessa heading back towards the ship and Lt. Veradin tagging some soldiers before he too headed back. Her hair grasped into a pony-tail flipped behind her as she turned back to the controls again. From her pocket, she pulled a small device to detonate the central computer core for when she'd gotten far enough away. "Alright, time to get the hell out of dodge."

Beginning a fast run and dash towards the Tesla Pierce had what she came for and the rescue she wasn't fully expecting to get. But she'd gotten it and it was time to go. Jogging faster, she climbed in over at the shuttle and left that Klingon ship behind as she admired Starfleet's modern motif in design. Never ceased to amaze her. Nevertheless, it was time to go. She strapped herself into one of the chairs near a console and attempted to transmit the data to no avail.

"Let's get this show on the road and back to the Theurgy. You don't want to be near that thing when it blows." Her face beholding a somewhat cold star, which was hard to display on the face of such beauty.

Trailing blue and gold lights flashed as more and more officer were beamed off the dying Klingon ship. Even as he walked down the corridors saving those he could, Derik was finding just as many dead. His path took him the long way around back to the airlock, but he couldn’t dally. The ship was actively groaning louder and louder under the stress. No doubt the outer hull would begin buckling and melting in a few minutes from being so close to the sun.

He only arrived back onboard the Tesla a few moments before the women did. Their forcefield airlock cycled and without bothering to take his gear off, the Trill took the helm again. From his chair he could see that they had a number of Klingons now aboard, in cryo-pods or otherwise. He hoped the small ship could handle the oxygen needs long enough for them to reach Theurgy. Alarms began sounding as his console lit up. The Klingon ship was nearing it’s final moment’s and the ship’s sensors were actively warning them to escape. ”Strap in! This is gonna be close!”

Checking quickly to make sure everyone was onboard, Veradin disengaged the docking clamps and swung the ship around. He pushed the impulse engines to full, rocketing away from the warship mere moments before it exploded into another, short lived, sun. Shrapnel impacted their rear shields with considerable force, pushing the protective field to the very limit to keep all the debris off their hull. With a few quick taps they jumped to warp, heading for the rendezvous.

Tessa watched as Lt. Veradin climbed on board and not a moment too soon as she saw the makeshift forcefield airlock breakdown and disintegrate. Without missing a beat, he and a few Klingons climbed into their respective seating arrangements. She watched Derik skip the removal of his flight suit and ran his hands across the controls no doubt to get the Tesla out of harm's way in a hurry.

Hearing his yell about strapping in for a close ride, she strapped in accordingly as did the others. Akel had to remind himself to actually sit down since he was busily running scans of all the individuals in his makeshift stasis pods in the back of the ship. The feeling of the ship thrusting away from the Daqchov was not a moment too soon as the shockwave and debris hit the small ship before going to warp with an added burst of speed.

Her hands scanned and moved in a volley of arrangements on her instrument panels as well. Carefully helping Derik and ensuring that they would avoid any unwanted attention. From the looks of things, the shot was clear and they would finally be back on the Theurgy. The icon for Wolf 08, Alessia Garcia "Angel" was en route back to the ship as well. She must have taken out whoever was piloting the ancient Klingon Birds-of-Prey that attacked them at the start of their mission. That at least was a good sign to her that not only had she succeeded but would be coming home too. They'd lost too many Valkyries from the Wolves as of late and it was refreshing to see them return home.

"The route appears to be all clear sir." She said still looking things over.

On the other side of the Tesla Akel Izavid was busily computing trajectories and maintaining the power supply of the Klingons in stasis, ensuring that when they returned to the Theurgy that medical could bring them out and help Martok's men achieve an honorable death rather than a being sabotaged and dying without honor. He was a little sorry he couldn't have gone on board but he was needed here.

[ Lt. Alana Pierce (https://uss-theurgy.com/w/index.php?title=Alana_Pierce) | Shuttle Tesla | Cockpit Cabin | Mid-Warp ] [Show/Hide]

Pierce was strapped in reviewing the data and discovered there were several plots ongoing between the creatures that implanted themselves in their respective species to wreak havoc as well as some in the Klingon Empire among other places. She knew these rescued men would help the cause for Martok's Chancellorship to succeed. Especially seeing as how the attack was done by members of their own species of another regime. The morale boost would be great for Martok and hopefully, reveal the Theurgy's and Starfleet's intentions for Martok to remain an ally.

As she sat back, she felt a little apprehension of reporting to another commanding officer aboard the Theurgy and the fact the ship was a large place to be in the first place. She'd read reports to be familiar with the ship and crew as well as the interesting capabilities of the renegade Starfleet vessel. Now she would experience it first hand and become one of those renegades to restore Starfleet to its once former status of exploration.

Time passed on the ship and soon Warp disengaged thanks to their very capable pilot, Lt. Veradin. Alana watched the viewscreen as Derik and the others from the Theurgy worked the controls, guiding the Tesla which was surprisingly a very capable vessel, into the shuttlebay. She peered at the giant ship which was a far cry from anything she'd ever seen in the 23rd century. This made the magnificent Excelsior look like a small frigate by comparison. It was a truly impressive sight to behind with its vast technical engineering.

As the ship landed on the deck plates, she could hear the Theurgy shuttle bay repressurize from the docking maneuver. She unlatched her safety restraints as did the rest of the crew and each stood up awaiting Lt. Izavid's opening of the rear hatch. Bright lights lit up the small ship as it opened and revealed the Theurgy in a small part. Klingon officers each taking their queue to leave, Pierce saw Lieutenants Izavid, Veradin, and Lance step off the ship before she did as well. Looking over her shoulder, she saw Tessa wave and Pierce nodded back to her acknowledging that she would catch up later. Right now, there was much to be done and little time to do it. But first, she had to speak with the Klingon called, Sotugh, who happened to survive but wouldn't have if it weren't for the Theurgy's intervention.

Sotugh stepped up next to Lt. Pierce and looked down at her. He admired the human female who currently wore an all black mission suit, in addition to some Klingon chest and hand armor to better protect herself while among them. He was impressed that this human was reported to have not only read Klingonese but that she had subdued several of his officers on board the IKS Daqchov. Surprising, but not unexpected.

"tlham QI'tu' tangqa' mIw vIwuq." (Greetings human. I am Sotugh. Leader of the House of DachoH.)

"ghIlab Sotugh. "

"pay' ghumtaH HIq vIghaj. bIDuy' 'e' vIpIHchugh, bIDalchugh." (I am Lieutenant Alana Pierce. I've been sent to assist you in discovering the traitor that left you adrift.)

You may speak your native tongue human. You have impressed me this day.

Alana was surprised as typically Klingons preferred not to talk in Terran languages but this worked too.

"Sotugh, I'm sorry for the deception aboard your vessel in my official name and title but I had to have certainty you were who you said you were in these troubling times. I have reason to believe a coup is in progress against Chancellor Martok whom you know well. I was placed on your vessel to assist in intelligence gathering, and while I cannot divulge what at this time until we have more information, I believe you, and an ally of Martok is in grave danger. No doubt you realize that from the sabotage on your vessel. We saved as many as we could, but none of us were meant to leave that ship alive. These people here are allies as well. They sought out after hearing your ship was adrift to search and rescue you and your crew. At present, some of your crew are being treated in our main sickbay."

Sotugh pondered this information and furrowed his brow while Alana stood firm in place, protruding an arrogance of knowing what she reported to be true. He looked her over again noting that although she'd likely seen some serious shit, she was honorable based on her actions on board his ship both before and after the attack. Very well Lieutenant. You have earned honor with this crew on this day and have earned an ally of the Klingon Empire and my house. Now, I must go speak with the Chancellor. We have much to discuss. Qapla! He said as he turned to attention and beat his chest with one fist to which Alana mirrored him, to honor the great house leader.

Pierce watched as the man turned away and disappeared into the corridors of the ship and she headed to the nearest deck officer to report in. This was going to be an interesting flight indeed.
