EPI S: [Day 03 | 0415] Bubble-suit Bitchassness

As the hours passed since her return to the ship, Shadow hadn’t stopped moving; the FAB was still a hive of activity – work had begun to clear the launch lanes and restore critical systems without pause. The repairs were still ongoing, the same as nearly everywhere she looked: everyone pushed through the exhaustion, if only by sheer inertia. In her mind, Talia knew she should be sleeping; if hostilities broke out again, they’d need every pilot up and ready to fight again – but she couldn’t rest in good conscience with so much work to do.

Chief Lok had put a stop to her attempted assistance (which had mostly consisted of removing debris and the like) by informing Talia (in blunt but not unkind words) that there was a reason pilots flew the ships and the crews worked on them. In short – although the help was appreciated – there were better efforts spent elsewhere: namely, checking in on her fellow pilots confined to Sickbay. Shadow wasn’t so tired not to understand that the Chief was essentially kicking her out of the FAB so his people could work without her fumbling around in the way, but she took the hint well enough.

The main entrance to sickbay opened a short time later to reveal the reception area. The desk was vacant, covered with stacks of open bandage packaging, PADDS, and various devices she couldn’t easily identify. The place looked like it had been through hell, compared to what she remembered from a few weeks ago; stains covered the carpet, scorch marks dotted the walls – the air itself smelled of burnt wire and desperation.

A solitary nurse shuffled into view, burdened with a huge bundle of what appeared to be balled up uniforms. He looked ragged, but alert, blinking at her in confusion. “Do you need help?”

Talia shook her head quickly, moving to assist him. “No, no – I’m okay,” she explained, taking some of the load from his arms. “I’m just here to look in on some people?”

The nurse nodded, thankful. “To recycle. There wasn’t time during…y’know,” he explained with a shrug. “Anyway, if they’re here, I doubt you’ll be able to see them. Folks in here are pretty tore up, and its way past visiting hours.” The pair deposited the piles of clothes into the recycler while the nurse talked, then he turned to Talia with a weary expression of sympathy. “What are their names?”

Shadow sighed quietly but understood the situation. “Valin, Wix, and Wellington?”

The nurse frowned in recognition but moved to the terminal at reception, his hands opening in a gesture of let me see what I can do. Talia waited patiently, feeling awkwardly out of place. The place seemed eerily quiet and devoid of activity; the lights were dimmed, like someone had forced the place into a state of calm after a calamity.

“Valin is in the Ward, recovering from surgery – out cold by the looks of it – uhm…Wix and Wellington, are…,” the man’s brows rose as he made an odd face, like a silent expression of unfortunate revelation.

“What is it,” Talia frowned at the man, concern mixed with impatience. “Are they okay?”

“Well, yes – but also no. I mean,” he shook his head, “you see, we lost the decon suite in the fight, so they’re in iso-suits. Stable but, y’know, in suits.”

Talia blinked and shook her head at him. “I don’t know – what are you saying?”

The nurse stood, worked the kink out of his neck, then gestured to his right where a large, blackened mess of what looked like two melted rooms used to be. “That is the decontamination suite – it’s used to isolate and treat all manner of contaminants before they spread to the rest of the ship.”

Talia nodded.

“Without it, Wix and Wellington – due to the nature of some contaminant, which in this case appears to be a viral infection, have been treated and placed into isolation suits. We’re having them stay in one of the storage closets.”

Wait, what, Talia frowned, eyes narrowed. “If they’re in suits, why keep them in a closet?”

“Because they’re loud and obnoxious and Dr. Leux told us to sedate them and throw them in a closet,” the nurse mumbled under his breath rapidly without pause or breath.

Yeah, that tracks, Shadow snorted. “Where are they?”

The nurse hooked a thumb over his shoulder. “I’ll give you ten minutes.”

[“Temporary Iso Ward” – Storage Closet | Main Sickbay]

Talia opened the door, which revealed her fellow Wolves, each of them sealed into what looked like a bubble-suit of clear plastic. She wasn’t sure how long they’d been stuck in there, but as soon as the door entered, the nurse pushed her in and closed the door – which prompted a grunt of disapproval before giving the pair of them a once over in the tight confines of the storage room.

“Hello then,” Shadow greeted, managing to keep the amusement from her face and voice, “you two alright?”

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHWAAAAHHHHHHAGH...WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING TO ME"!! Via whined loudly into the void, hoping someone would hear her cries for help...while Charles, exhausted, painfully endured those same cries, propped up against a stack of medical crates filled with hypo sprays and other medical equipment. They were both wrapped up in plastic like bubble suits in their underwear, looking rather fatigued from a combination of the previous battle and the injuries they sustained, and having not slept properly in the last 24 hours. In short, they were both on a short fuse.

"Perhaps, ma'am, you shouldn't've called that nurse a 'bitchass' then, and got us shoved in the supply closet." There was a heavy sense of weariness in his voice.

"Well, his ass was! I ain't gonna lie to him." Via snapped back. "He was rude and buttin' his in on our discussion."

"It wasn't a discussion, ma'am; it was you saying something outlandishly wrong, and me trying to correct you. I don't know why I tr-"

"My ass is right! If Humans already are already like 90% water, then there is no reason to drink more. Your ass will explode. I told you I learned this in school." From a certain point of view, Via was correct in the context of her home planet. Pure, clean Water was a luxury, and it was common practice to avoid consuming it due to the toxicity of public sources. Many would exploit that need for water.

Charles gave an audible, exasperated sigh.

"I can drink as many energy drinks as I want! Bein' 'dehydrated' is a Ferengi scam to sell you fake disgustin' sewage."

Charles spoke up "Things you learn at school can be wrong!"

"Nuh-uh! That makes no sense. Why would teachers lie, huh? Thinkin' our professors at the academy can be wrong?"

"Wha- no-... I mean-" Charles stammered

Via started at Charles with a growing smugness on her face

"Ye-...I mean-

"Hmhmm..."

"It is so much more complicated-

"Uh-huh..."

"You are wrong, it's not the same."
Charles affirmed.

"No one's ass likes a sore loser Beachhead..."

"I wonder if there is an exposed power conduit I can chew on in here..."

Then suddenly, the door opened, revealing a very familiar face, which gave both of the wolves a sense of hope that they were going to leave this makeshift jail cell sometime soon.

"SHADOW!! You are alive!!!" She said with genuine glee, but quickly switched priorities, realizing her escape was in sight. "Get us out of here!"

"Ma'am, bloody hell, we are so glad to see you. Could you possibly explain to the medical staff that this is all a giant misunderstanding -"

"Ain't nothin' misunderstandin' about it they are-"

"PLEASE, MA'AM, JUST TELL THEM WE ARE SORRY AND THAT WE WILL BEHAVE"!!

"LISTEN! All them nuses are pushovers. Between the two of us, our asses can take em'. Just get us out of these dumbass suits!" Via tried to break out of her plastic "restraints" to no avail.

They spoke to their hero in question quickly, overlapping each other with franticness in their voices

“I'm glad you two made it,” Talia smiled while Via and Charles talked over each other, a shoulder leaned to the side of the door as she enjoyed the show. Both of them were so animated and their voices so muffled, it was hard for her to keep up. Neither of them seemed to realize how ridiculous they looked and sounded.

That only added to Shadow’s amusement.

“Throttle back,” Talia laughed, hands in the air. “The nurse out front said they put you in those because of some kind of contagion – but neither one of you sound sick, so what’s the deal,” she asked, eyeing Via suspiciously. A brow arched to add effect. “Who’d you piss off this time?”

A voice cut in then, slightly raspy with mechanical distortion. “That would be me, the resident nurse “bitchass”. Be advised – well, let me be clear – be warned: any attempt at physical altercation with any medical staff will have severe consequences. And yes, we’ve been monitoring you two the entire time – if you’ll direct your attention to the corner over the door? Your left. No, your other left.”

Talia turned her head with them, at what appeared to be an audio/visual node tucked into the corner of the room.

“Yahtzee. For the record, Mr. Wellington – its pronounced “dee-ruh-juh-bl”, dirigible – and Ms. Wix, please refrain from further attempts at dancing, you could depressurize your suit and suffocate.”

“Whoa, wait a minute now,” Talia spoke up, somewhat alarmed and outraged. “Look, all jokes aside - they’ve been in here long enough – when was the last time they got checked out? Neither one seems sick.”

The voice fell silent.

Talia cocked her head at Via, brow raised again. “Nurse Bitchass,” she asked through a smile, then shook her head. “Ya hamar, I don’t want to know. Lets look for a tricorder – maybe I can scan you two and prove your healthy, then we can all get out of here. Yallah.”

OOC - Sorry its short 😅
*Ya hamar = you donkey
*Yallah = quick/hurry up
*This thread is now a drinking game - everytime you use the word bitchass, the reader takes a shot.

"Oh yeah. Why don't you come in here and suffocate on these-" Via's response was cut short by Shadow's interjection. While she wasn't suprised she was happy her savior was actually trying to save her and Charles. The young pilot smirked as Shadow brought up a great point but them looking healthy but then glared at her RIO when he was about to speak up about having been sick for the last couple days.

Via nearly jumped up with glee when Shadow went ahead and called the doctor a 'bitchass' too. "HA! See, you can't keep our asses in here forever! I got badass friends everywhere!" She spoke up to the dismbodied voice.

"Ma'am". Charles spoke up and attemped to shuffle to the right revealing a sealed crate labeled 'spare tricorders' behind him.  "There is a crate behind me. Alas I cannot open it." He demonsitrated the problem to Shadow by trying to move his fingers. No matter how much he tried to manupliate them they remained fastly in place. "Look? No dexterity. And it looks like the crate is looked with a passcode-"

"Hey, Nurse bitchass, give our asses the passcode for these tricorders!"

"I would've asked nicely ma'am". Charles sighed

"Why do our asses gotta be nice? He's been a bitchass this entire time". Via chimed back

"Because he holds the keys to our freedom possibly"

"Ugh, well now HE knows that! Great job Beachhead. Now our asses are goin to be stuck here." Via rolled her eyes.

"You will be the death of me..." Charles shook his head and sighed

"Wait a sec'- Shadow you can just hack it! Its easy, I do it all the time."

"Your hologames don't count ma'am."

"Shut your dumbass up. You are just jealous you ain't a master hacker like me." Via said proudly

Unable to keep herself from snorting at Wellington’s bubble-suit encased hand, Talia managed a nod then tried to maneuver herself into position to check out the crate. Unfortunately, the two of them were so animated (and much larger now that they both had those ridiculous suits on), Shadow soon found herself sandwiched between them while both carried on their back-and-forth bickering.

Every time she tried to twist or move one of them out of the way, the sound of skin sliding across rubber filled the closet, while her skin itched and hair tingled from the build-up of static discharge. This went on while the pair talked over each other, until Talia’s relatively short patience finally snapped, mostly due to lack of air and space: her arms shot out from her sides, stiff arming both in a shove that was deliberately aimed to grant her space and get their attention.

Talia took a deep breath in the silence that followed. “Be. Quiet,” she sighed, then jerked her head to the side in a prompt for Charles to move. He did so, squeaking with every movement like an inflated balloon. Once he was out of the way, Talia crouched in front of the crate to take a look. “This is a standard supply crate. Shouldn’t have to hack anything,” she shrugged and tapped in the standard code she was assigned.

It bleeped negatively.

“Hm,” Shadow frowned at it. “Okay, maybe I’ll have to hack it,” she admitted, then arched a brow up over her shoulder at Wix. “You’ll have to walk me through it, because I’ve never hacked anything in my life.”

A static-laced chuckle filled the room suddenly, followed by the return of Nurse Bitchass’ voice. “You three are certainly entertaining, I’ll give you that. I’ve checked in with Vi-Nine and I’m happy to report that your isolation period is nearing an end. However, there’s still the small detail of an apology I believe is owed to myself and the medical staff as a whole; sooner I hear it, the sooner I let you out.”

Talia groaned and rolled her eyes.

“Oh, and all three of you are overdue for a dental exam, by the way.”

"Just let me know when your done so we can hack the damn crate," Shadow covered her ears in preparation for the yelling to come.

Via looked at Shadow and chuckled. "Your ass never hacked anythin'? Tellin' me you paid for your holovids?" The pilot's train of thought was interupted with the Nurse spoke up again

"Ha! My ass got your apology right her-" just about to put up her favorite bird until...

"Via!" Charles looked at his counterpart with strikingly and spoke directly with no sense of hesitation. It seemed like he just about had it. Being sick on top of being in a cumbersome bubble suit, in addition to having zero time to get any rest whatsoever after one of the most trying he had ever been a part of- all amounted to the WSO essentially breaking.

"Bloody hell, JUST STOP! Please! I WANT TO GO HOME!" Charles pleaded then sniffled.

"I will do any-"

"Give me your holodeck time for the month". Via promptly replied, which slightly caught Charles off guard

"Huh?!"

"Tick-tock, my ass didn't hear a yes."

Charles took a second, looked at Shadow, then looked at Via, pondering if surrendering his holodeck time was truly worth- of course it was.

"Fine." Charles begrudgingly conceded, prompting Via to let out a mischievous smile. "Hey, Nurse bitc...I mean. Nurse uh...I don't 'member your name. Look, my ass is sorry for bein' a meanie towards you all. I super promise I'll be nice next time, and I'll do my dental exam and stuff..." Via did her best 'I really mean it' routine, even though she was skeptical at best.

"Can we leave now?" She said, dropping the act altogether.

In truth, the reason why she switched up so fast on apologizing to the med crew was the magnitude of what Charles just offered. Via could now binge-watch the holovid of "Speed and Angry D(500)", which she hadn't had time to do since her holodeck hours had been heavily restricted due to a voyeurism incident right outside the doors on top of her trying to mess with the holodeck's settings, but to her, that was neither here nor there.
