Day 03 [0600 hrs.] A Day in the Life of Albert Tiran

As the optical sensors come fully online, the blue glow around Albert's eyes begin to brighten as he comes online fully after processing the simplified coding of Blue Tiran.  Each small mechanical joint on the small chassis of Albert Tiran shifted row by row.  Feathers lifting to expose hidden ports and small tools that were hidden beautifully underneath the outer layer.  Each row lay back down the way they had been before.  The wings swiveled forward and backward.  His head shifted to the left, right, up, and then around before settling back in its inert state.

The room around him was the same as always.  Perhaps a little cleaner which would pertain to two things. 

1. Miss Blue Tiran had actually cleaned, not likely.
2. Miss Blue Tiran was not in residence at the moment and therefore had not yet had the chance to mess up the cleaning Mister Ducote did the previous night.  Likely.

[Miss Blue, I am fully aware that my power banks are currently showing at 21%.]

“Then why the fuck aren't you taking care of yourself?”  Miss Blue was sitting, currently, in her chair behind the desk where his charging port was station, and had always been stationed.  Her hair was piled on top of her head, damp from a recent shower, and she was dressed in what could loosely be described as pajamas.  Though why she bothered dressing when later they would be found on the floor right before the noises of fornication began made little sense to the logistical owl.

[You have covered my port with your array of rubbish.]

“Did you just call my shit, junk?”



“Same fucking thing!”

[Junk is a barbaric term.]

“You don't even know what the fuck a barbarian is.”

[Shall I access the information I downloaded about Earth?]

The infamous Blue Tiran eye roll commences.  “Fuckin' know-it-all”



“Don't forget, shit head, Ducote and I are leaving in the morning and we won't be here.  You aren't invited on our little trip, so you get to stay here and hold the fort.”

[To call the Theurgy a fort, seems, incorrect.] the clicking of Albert's feathers shifting around him.  [However, I have your trip stored within my internal calendar so I cannot forget your outing with Mister Ranaan.  Whatever shall I do without the sounds of your fornication to shut down to.]

Blue rose her brow.  “Was that a fucking joke?” she asked curiously.



Blue let out a long sigh and leaned forward putting her prototype of a prosthetic hand down on the desk before clearing off his charging pad.  Albert had moved forward and lowered himself down on the port easily enough, the cables snaking from his under carriage and plugging themselves into the port.

[Safe travels, Miss Blue.]

“Goodnight, Albert.”

Albert sat himself, perched on the back of one of the chairs.  The console work was just about finished, and he was glad to have been of help.  It had been a fine job, together, he and the officer had been able to actually repair the console.  Albert was little more than a tool-lackey at times, but it worked out well enough.  He did not know the use of every tool that was available to the engineering crew but those he did were picked up easily and PO3 Lange seemed to get past his earlier stigma of working with the owl and instead began to teach small things.  Albert, unlike many, would never forget something that was taught.  He was fully programmed to absorb, learn, and grow.  New protocols being created as his optical, auditory, and tactile sensors took in all the information that was given.

“So this mean you're going to be my assistant now?”  Asked Lange, he had been working with the young man for a while now and could tell that he was trying to be jovial by reading the facial expressions and by interpreting the intonation of his voice.

[I assist when in need.]

“Well I didn't really need you.” he said with a sigh as he finished laying the special top on the console and securing the last of the screws into the console to hold the touch screen in place.  Going the extra mile, he sprayed it down with some cleaning solution and wiped all his fingerprints off of it so it looked sparkling and brand new.

[I would differ in my opinion.  I carried the new top over to you, that was less leg work and allowed you instead to work on dismantling.  I also supplied your tools to your hands so that you did not have to dig for them.  I improved your efficiency by exactly 32%.]

“Thirty two percent, you think pretty highly of yourself, there Tin Can.”

[It is not that I believe myself highly educated.  However, unlike the human mind that is quick to emote, forget, and need of frequent reminders, I will not.]

“You know, this is exactly why they call you an asshole.”

[I do not understand the human fascination with equating people to your excrement export system.]

“The people that are assholes never see themselves as one.”

[Your point is moot.]

Lange grinned and shook his head.  “All right, all right, come on it's break time.”

[Do you require an interruption to your daily required work hours?]

Lange gave a smirk.  “No, but see, you do a little work, then you go replicate yourself some coffee and a snack and you enjoy those, then you find job number two and after that you take another break.  Feed the body, feed the mind.  You know, that kind of thing.”

[I require non sustenance for my continued work ethic.]

“It's not about need.  It's about can.  And, a break gives your mind and body a chance to relax.”

[I am starting to assess more clearly why the Theurgy is in such a weakened state.]

“Hold on there buddy, are you stating that we don't work hard?”

[I am stating you could work more efficiently.  I believe that a consistent work schedule would allow for more completed tasks.]

“Well you can come and take a break or go find someone else to pester.  I'm ready for the elixir of life.”  Lange collected his tools and headed off towards the break room.  Leaving Albert to watch him leaving while pontificating what he should do next.

Albert currently perched on a small platform that Miss Blue had built into one of the bulk head walls shortly after her discussion, outrage, and understanding in the meeting with Ives.  It intrigued Albert, just how the woman could swing from one heightened emotion to another without seeming to take a breath or make any visible change in her direction.  She seemed to be a fluid beast, for the lack of a better terminology, not that he would state thus to her face.  It was something that he was finding himself fascinated to continue watching.  The varying degrees of Miss Blue Tiran and her emotions.  Though he had been told that he would need to start calling her by her actual rank.  As she had earned it and he as a lowly civilian he would need to make sure rank was paramount.  Though he was difficulty changing from Miss Blue and Mister Ducote, to Commanders. 

Perhaps with time.

The charging station was rather acceptable in it's position to allow him to see a large swath of the deck without having to leave it.  She had of course, installed more than one, but this one was becoming his favorite.  It had a small cord that snaked into the walls that he could use to charge when his batteries were getting low, however, that was not necessary.  Power banks still showed themselves at 92% and he did not like to top off unless he was about to go out with Miss Blue on a long working trip or if she was to leave the ship for some reason. 

Though, now he was not guaranteed a trip, as proven now, by Miss Blue being absent from the deck.

He knew, as she had informed him as such, that she would be putting at least a few of these small perches in spots on the various decks once she covered it with Ives.  Just because it would be beneficial to him.  She was in the process of upgrading his charging ports to only needing to be perched and not having to plug in.  But ultimately, they were both hoping that at some point he could just pull the power to himself by proximity to other electronics.

It was something they would be working on together, at any rate.

Albert's eyes shifted across the deck.  Many engineers doing their current tasks.  Blue had left a list that was at the very least impressive of things (shit, in her words), that she wanted done as quickly as possible.  She would only likely be gone a night, possibly two, it depending on her and Mister Ranaan.  He hoped, honestly, they would heal some of Miss Blue's wounds while they were gone.  Miss Blue had been going to therapy and Albert found himself rather proud of her.  Because, when he had access to her Medical records, it proved that she had always gone and yet never made progress.  The one that Albert had been able to see, had proven she was willing to try at least.  Perhaps the Versant was the chrysalis. 

<Help requested.  Engisn zh'Ron.>

He information came through his programming because he had been able to patch into input request that were tossed about the deck.  He pulled up the information so that she could find the Ensign. 

<Andorian, Ensign, Dilithium Specialist.  This will be most educational.>

He moved himself to the edge of the platform and penned a quick message to Miss Blue.

I would like to put in a couple requests in the upgrading of this current chassis.  Per our recent discussions on the upgrades to the power absorption I would like to request more tacticle under wing appendages to assist in my duties here on the Deck.  I would also like to be issued my own PADD, even if it is minature, or just the software uploaded into my personal matrix to make it easier.  I would also request more onboard tools.

As he sent the message to Miss Blue, he landed on the back of a chair as he looked at Ensign zh'Ron.

[Greetings, Miss zh'Ron.  I am Albert, and I have answered your request for assistance.  What may I do to help you in your duties?]

The blue woman looked up, her antenae up in irritation for the moment, as her eyes shifted to look at the bird and she sighed.  “You aren't who I wanted.” she said as she looked back down at the project she was working on.  It looked to Albert, having studied the schematics of the ship to better assist in his job, like it was the dilithium regulation conduits. 

[I am the person that answered.] he responded tilting his head slightly.

“You aren't a person.” she grumbled.

[Correction, my new awareness and sapience allows me the nomenclature of being a person.]

“I don't care what Ives and your little Human thinks. You're a robot.. a computer with advanced features.”

[I believe you are mistaken, or you are prejudice.  Which is it?]

“Look, I don't want your help. You can go.  I'll wait for a real person to come help me.  You know the kind who has a beating heart, pumping blood, brain matter, all of that.”

[I lack biological components, however, my mental processes are.. dare I say, more profound than all the knowledge in your own brain matter.]

“What?”  she looked up and sighed.  “I don't want you here, okay?  You're a damn toy, for the new Chief that likely slept her way to that position.”

[I can assure you that Miss Blue has not fornicated with the Captain.]  Albert stated deadpan.

“Ugh, fuc- just.. go.  Okay?  I don't need your help.  Go.. clean or something.  You can do that right?  Clean, do maintenance?  Look there's a Lewis' old ramen cup on the console over there.  How about you go fetch it and put it in the replicator like a good little cleaning lady.”

If Albert could have blinked, he would have.  <Perhaps eyelids?>  [I believe you are being prejudice against my personage because I lack biological matter.  I behoove you to change your opinion of myself and allow me to help you.  Starfleet Code of Conduct mandates th-]

“You're going to quote that shit at me.  Should I wall paper your boss' fucking office with all the regulations that she doesn't fucking follow.”

[Miss Blue is your boss as well, if you have forgotten.  Furthermore, I should like to inform you of the sheer amount of optical sensors that are implanted in my chassis.]

The blue skinned woman furrowed her brow in confusion.  “I don't-”

[Ah, well let the less biologically inclined enlighten.  I have recorded our entire conversation and it is currently stored in my memory databanks.  Only myself and Miss Blue can wipe or view them, good day Ensign zh'Ron.]

Albert used his anti-grav booster to get off the chair and head off to find himself another place to work companionably.

“Great jumpin’ Jesus!” a masculine voice hollered with a drawling twang.  “What the Hell is this?  What the Hell is this!  WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?” Master Chief Petty Officer William Robert ‘Billy Bob’ O’Connell roared in his best ‘drill instructor voice' as he marched clear across main engineering in the direction the mechanical owl.  “Who’s the twinkle-toed scumsucker who jest signed his own death warrant?  Is this some kind of joke?  Is some kind of toy?  What th’ hell is this thang doin’ in main engineerin’ anyhow?  Cain’t you idjits keep yer toys in yer quarters?”

“Master Chief!” Ensign zh’Ron shouted.  “Keep your voice down!  I can’t hear myself think!”

The tall burly human turned to growl at the Andorian ensign but caught himself in time.  He wasn’t the acting chief engineer anymore.  Captain Ives had got him/herself a qualified officer and at least two spares should something untoward happen to her.  He shuddered and wobbled somewhat comically as he forced the belligerent glower off his face and changed frequencies in order to address someone who technically outranked him despite having less than a quarter of his years in Starfleet.  “Beggin’ yer pardon ma’am,” he said in a quieter tone that was nowhere near quiet.  “Do you know whut this thing is?”

“It’s Commander Tiran’s toy,” Ensign zh’Ron muttered.  “I don’t know what it’s doing in main engineering.  Get it out of here.”

“Commander, Ah say Commander Tiran’s doo-dah did yuh say?” O’Connell repeated uneasily.  “Is she usin’ it tuh keep an eye on us ma’am?”

“I don’t know, I don’t care,” Ensign zh’Ron huffed.  “Just get rid of it, will you?  I don’t need a distraction while trying to get some work done.”

“Aye-aye ma’am,” Billy Bob gulped.  This looked like a lose-lose proposition.  He walked over to the mechanical owl and surveyed it with a professional eye.  “This thing gotta box it goes in?” he asked offhandedly.

There was a loud auditory input coming from a direction in which Albert had not been focusing his processing power.  His head swiveled and the person, Master Chief, by the tell of his collar began charging across the deck screaming infinitely louder with every time he repeated the question.  Either, he believed that the oddity of his syllable usage would be misunderstood or he perhaps believed the larger volume he used the more people would pay attention to his incompetent screaming.

Now that the auditory input had been taken care of Albert focused his sensors on the fact that the man in front of him, recognition software labeled him as Bill Bob O'Connell, was currently using his loudest possible verbal volume to ask just what it was that Albert could be.  The terminology that was thrown out in the most verbal of ways made little actual sense to a AI that had spent it's limited enlightened experience using actual language and not some sort of slang that he could only impress did not actually get any valid points across.

However, it seemed that zh'Ron was going to take this moment to try to get back at Albert.  Stating that he was a toy.  Well now, Albert was rather incensed that someone would think he was available to play with as he had no entertainment value and there was no need for anything other than accomplishing his job well and in a timely manner.  The man decided to come over and assess whether he could find a box that would fit Albert.

[I assure you, Master O'Connell should you lay your hands upon my chassis and decide to manhandle my person into a box you will live to regret it.  Not because I believe in revenge, mind you, my creator, on the other hand takes it very personally.]

Albert shifted a moment and tilted his head to the side just at a 15 degree axis.  It was something that Miss Blue had programmed within him allowing him to be more owl-like.  [If you would like to take up my actual duties you will have to belay that until Commander Tiran comes back from her foray on the planet.  Until then, you will kindly treat me as the person I am.  I have a job to do, I am doing it, even if some are more prejudiced against me than others.]

His head swiveled to take in the form of zh'Ron who sat there trying to keep that innocent look on her face.  [If you require any assistance please let me know.  There is a specialized location on each PADD on Engineering, and the console, Miss Blue programmed herself to request my specific help however all requests for help are funneled through me incase I may be of assistance.  However, it is enjoyable to meet a new face.  I am Albert Tiran.]

“So do I Mister O’Connell,” Ensign zh’Ron retorted dryly without looking up from her work.

Billy Bob rolled his eyes and glanced behind him before returning his gaze to Albert.  “Okay li’l feller.  Whut do Ah do with yuh?”

[ If you would like to take up my actual duties you will have to belay that until Commander Tiran comes back from her foray on the planet.  Until then, you will kindly treat me as the person I am.  I have a job to do; I am doing it, even if some are more prejudiced against me than others. ]

“Well bless yer heart,” the master chief drawled.  “Uppity li’l  varmint ain’t yuh?  Yuh claim tuh be uh real person do yuh?  Tarnation!  That’s amazin’!  Are you seriously tellin’ me thet somehow uh Starfleet engineer in her twenties managed tuh dew somethin’ thet took Doctor Soong his entire life tuh accomplish an’ whut th’ Daystrom Institute still ain’t managed tuh duplicate?  Well now!  Jest butter mah butt an’ call me uh biscuit!  Ah reckon we’re maighty fortunate tuh have someone aboard with her technological expertise then aren’t we?”

There was almost no way this robot bird could be truly sentient.  Heck these days you could program a holodeck character that would seem more like a real person than this contraption.  But it wouldn’t do to simply judge it on appearances since he already knew of one honest to goodness sentient artificial intelligence aboard the Theurgy, Miss Thea herself, and she was everywhere.  To spare Miss Thea’s feelings he decided to take the owl-shaped doohickey at its word and give it his version of the Turing Test.

“Pay, Ah say, pay attention when Ah’m talkin’ to yuh birdy.  So tell me li’l feller, whut do Ah call you an’ whut iz this ‘job’ yer so worked up about anyways?”

[I do not possess a heart in which to bless.]

It seemed, this oddly speaking creature in front of him, had little knowledge of how a creation such as himself came to be.  He supposed it could be a turn of phrase, and upon looking into it through his computing capacity, he found it was an old Southern term.  <Odd, Miss Blue is from the South (capitol S) and yet she has never used the term.  I shall inquire with her about this at a later date.>  Albert shifted as the man began to equate him to a Varmint.  Again, Albert wished for eyebrows to properly convey his thoughts without the necessity of words.  And yet, he supposed, there was something to be said about not having faical expressions.  All his mental processes remained his own and secret. 

He began to speak about how someone in her twenties could create a life like him and yet the Federation itself had not yet recreated Doctor Soongs work no matter how hard they tried.  The there was discussion of butter and a biscuit.  <Perhaps he and Miss Blue share a common ground for unhealthy food contents.> 

[You are quite lucky to have someone as talented as Commander Tiran on board the Theurgy, her work is paramount, ahead of her time, and while on paper she is not a perfect officer, she goes beyond her necessities.]  He shifted again.  [My entire chassis, my most basic matrix, and the capacity of my being all came from the hands, mind, and imagination of Blue Tiran.  We were held hostage upon the ship known as the Versant, where, I was paired with Thea which changed my capacity and allowed for a positronic matrix such as she has.  So I am a mixed creation, if you will.]

Albert's eyes shifted to zh'Ron who was taking everything in but glaring at him as though she was trying to embrace her inner Blue Tiran.  Though, Miss Blue was unprecedented in her ability to use her eyes as actual words and weapons without opening her mouth.  That said, it was actually more terrifying when she was quiet and watching than when she was loud and cursing.

When the man began spouting his nonsensical terminology again mixed with some actual Starfleet standard in that odd accent of his, Albert's gaze returned to him.  [I am Albert, not birdy.  Thank you.]  he said shortly, almost clipped, as he found himself getting a bit irritated at the whole situation.  Time was wasting and he had a great deal more tasks on his plate for today.  He wanted to complete his list before he powered down for the evening so that Miss Blue would be unconcerned when she came back from her much needed respite with the Commander.

[Master O'Connell, I see that you do not remember the required and urgent memo that was sent our courtesy of our Chief Engineer when I was elected to my duties.  I am currently in the capacity to be an Engineering assistant.  Earning my way through hours of time put onto the deck.  Now that I have achieved sentience I must use my years of knowledge and working beside Miss Blue, to attain my full position as her assistant.  While she is away I am endeavoring to prove myself.  I will forward you the communication from Miss Blue herself.]

[If you have any questions, I have received a request for assistance by the officer working on the Primary Commentator in the Dilithium area.]

With that said, he used his anti-grav pad located underneath his chassis and headed off towards the direction of the dilithium chamber so that he could be of assistance.  Being that he was not a living and breathing person he could actually be more help than some officers, when necessary and actually trusted.

“No hold… Ah say [/i]hold on[/i] there li’l fella.  Did you say thet yer name wuz Albert?” the master chief said as he made a halting and dismissive gesture with his right arm.  “Koizumi!” he bawled as he turned stiffly to a young Japanese petty officer watching from a workstation along the inner wall of the chamber.  “Ah thought yew said thet Albert wuz uh floatin’ silver sphere thet looked lahk an eye?”

“Um, no sir master chief, I said that for all we know Albert could look like a floating silvery sphere that looks like an eye!” the young man yelped.

“Uh huh Ah see, mm-hm,” William Robert “Billy Bob” O’Connell mused suspiciously and a tough melodramatically as he turned to direct his gaze in Ensign zh'Ron’s direction. 

When he had been acting chief engineering officer he had been respectful around any lieutenants he had inadvertently found himself leading but he had been merciless with over seventy percent of the ensigns under his command.  Most of those ensigns were fresh out of the academy and weren’t as ready to make decisions as some of them believed.  Indeed, so intimidating had he been around them that a number of them were still cowed, even though he was no longer their superior.  Ensign zh’Ron was not one of them.  Whether due to growing up in a society that had grown out of a warrior culture or just plain cussedness, Ensign zh’Ron was quickly to remind Billy Bob who outranked who now that the Theurgy once again had a chief engineering officer rather than a master chief engineer.

“Ensign zh’Ron ma’am,” Billy Bob drawled as he sauntered over to the young Andorian, “Did li’l Albert here tell yuh his name when he entered main engineerin’, identify himself that is?”

[My designation, given by Commander Tiran, is Albert Tiran.  When I gained sapience, I accepted it as my moniker because it was already familiar to myself.]

Albert shifted himself from the flight path that he had been on to go help another officer, and instead perched himself on the back of one of the chairs which was assigned to a console.  No one was currently assigned to the spot and so the seat was all his for the time being.  His optical sensors took in the Chief as he asked a nearby officer what he had thought Albert would look like.  Something that resembled an optical sensors in it's own right but flying.  Apparently, this other officer had said that he could look like that but it didn't mean that he did.

[Commander Tiran, created my visage in the likeness of an Earth owl.]

The Master Chief turned over towards zh'Ron and asked if she had been introduced to Albert when he entered Main Engineering.  The eyes on the Andorian woman got quite large for the moment as she looked over at him.  “Well.... I mean.. I .. he.. he might not have..”

[To belay further misunderstandings, I can pull up the audio and video feed of my conversation with the Ensign if you wish.]  he stated calmly.

Zh'Ron looked up and shook her head.  “He... introduced himself but I don't see why the fuck I should have to work for some toy that our new Chief created.  And furthermore, how does she get the job you were fucking doing just fine before she just showed up with her bitchy attitude and took it over?  I don't like the changes here, we were just fine we didn't need new leadership or anything like that.”

To his credit, the master chief did the best to diffuse the situation.  It was obvious that Ensign zh'Ron’s issues went far beyond a mechanical owl offering its assistance in engineering.  Between their recent run in with the Borg, the Savi, the Asurians, and their own Starfleet it was a pleasant surprise that everybody on the ship hadn’t been declared psychologically unfit for duty right now. 

The Borg.  Of course.  An encounter with the Borg could instill robophobia faster than the thirty year old holonovel, Killer Androids from Outer Space.  He just hoped that zh’Ron got the shore leave and psychiatric counseling she needed soon.
 
“Now say, Ah say, say no more ma’am,” William O’Connell drawled as he raised his hands in a conciliatory gesture.  “Yuh don’t hafta convince me no nevermind.  Ah wholeheartedly agree with yuh there Ensign.  Ain’t nobody expectin’ yew too be takin’ no orders from no machine, at least until that moe-sheen gits through Starfleet Boot Camp or graduates from Starfleet Academy that is.  Until then dependin’ on whether or not the li’l guy has taken a Turing Test and gotten his Rossam Evaluation, he’s either a user friendly tool or he’s a civilian consultant.  Either way he’s jest a resource, an’ if anybody here kin find uh better way nothin’ says you gotta use ‘im.  Ah’m sure thet th’ reason Commander Tiran thought he’d be so handy ‘round here is because he don’t need sleep or suffer from fatigue lahk th’ rest of us organic engineers do.  But if you don’t wanna talk to him unless he’s conveying a message you don’t gotta.”

Even though blue skin didn’t blush like Billy Bob’s pinkish white skin could, it was obvious that Ensign zh’Ron was embarrassed at her outburst and searching for a way to save face.  Just as she opened her mouth to speak O’Connell cut her off.  “Now Ah’m sure thet after facin’ down th’ Borg most of us would prefer assistance from someone with a pulse, an’ if yew seen enough robots tuh last yuh ‘til yer dyin’ day, Ah more then unnerstand.  Iffin yuh don’t want tuh talk tuh li’l Albert here, Ah kin spare a few minutes.  Whut do yuh need ma’am? ”

The Andorian opened her mouth and closed it before fuming for a brief moment.  “I need help recalibrating the dilithium regulation conduits,” she finally grumbled. 
 
“Well Ah’m all ears Ensign,” O’Connell drawled as he planted his six foot two inch (187 centimeter) two hundred pound (90.7 kilo) mass in a chair next to the Andorian’s.  “Whut exactly seems tuh be th’ problem Ma’am?”

“If we don’t recalibrate the dilithium regulation conduits to the proper frequency it might severely limit the life of the crystals,” Ensign zh’Ron explained as she went out of her way not to look in Albert’s direction.  “The Klingon ships have their dilithium crystals on different tolerances than we do and I’m trying to recalibrate our regulation conduits so we don’t end up shattering any dilithium at the worst possible moment.”

“All righty then, lemme think,” the master chief nodded before turning to face the mechanical owl.  “Albert whut kind of tolerances are the Klingon grade dilithium rated at?”

[ Between .0134 and .4833 increments between our standard and the Klingon usable Dilithium, ] the mechanical owl replied.

O’Connell nodded at the bird shaped robot.  “Why thank yew son,” he drawled.  “And how do we make sure uh thet, check our work thet is?”

[ Your best solution is to calibrate the conduits to the middle-grade of the difference, thus, allowing for it to compensate when the Theurgy pulls it from the power, ]  Albert suggested.  [ You may also need to install a specific sensor assembly to watch for pressure, heat, and any kind of irregular fluctuations. ]

“Yup, that’s whut Ah figgered,” Billy Bob nodded before turning to face the Andorian.  “Ma’am Ah reckon thet there’s some thin lahk  .0134 n’ .4833 increments between whut our dilithium an’ th’ Klingon crystals are rated at but ah calculate thet we kin cover our sixes by calibratin’ th’ conduits tuh th’ somewheres in th’ middle uh th’ difference…”

“Master Chief, I said I didn’t want to talk to that thing,” Ensign zh’Ron interrupted. 

“Now hold, Ah say, hold on there Ma’am,” the master chief protested as he held his hands before him palms out in a halting gesture.  “Ain’t nobody never made yew talk li’l ol’ Albert here.  Yew asked fur mah assistance an’ Ah gave it to yuh usin’ all uh th’ resources et mah disposal.”  When zh’Ron attempted to retort, O’Connell cut her off.  “Now Ah know, Ah say, Ah jest know whut yer a gonna say!  Yer thinkin’ ew don’t need tuh ask thet li’l guy nothin’, an’ that’s raight, yuh don’t.  But since yew seemed tuh be in a bit of uh hurry an’ Ah got me some work on the port ventral pylon tuh do, Ah thought Ah’d use the resources we have available tuh expedite yer request there.  Is that okay with yew Ensign?”

Albert was quite satisfied with being able to help with the project as he had initially intended.  It was exactly what his job parameters were.  Set forth by Miss Blue when she created his initial protocol and then again when he attained the current state of being.  Blue had sat with him in her office and began to label all the things he could do and could not do.  If he wanted to attain his true citizenship and be able to earn the place at her side that they both desired.  He did not really know a life without Miss Blue, as she had been the person that not only created him, but also, was the only person he had known.  He also knew a great deal of Engineering having been programmed initially by someone as intelligent as Miss Blue.  Now though he could attain more knowledge, at least, once he was allowed to access it.

With the job having been assisted, even if forced by MC O'Connell, he was glad for the fact that he had achieved yet another helpful moment.  His internal programming put a little check in the box next to the fact that he had, once more, helped another Engineer in their jobs.  He did not deign to believe that he was more intelligent than they, though, he likely was in many aspects.  He was there to assist, and until a time that he felt it was time to put his efforts into something else, he would do so.

Miss Blue called him her family, he had at once looked up the meaning of this word, and found that he was not sure how he felt about it.  Family were those that were close, and likely born in the same genetic line.  However, he was not born, he was created.  He supposed that was, in a way, a birth of sorts.  In the loosest of sense.  He was not uncomfortable with being Blue's family, more instead, he was just surprised that considering the lack of actual use he had once been, that she had labeled him as this.

Perhaps there were deeper and more human reasons hidden behind it but he did not have the capacity to understand it.  His job was now to assist where he could and when it was necessary.  As with zh'Ron.

“With my work here done, I shall leave you to it.  Should you require further assistance you know how to reach me.”

“I think I can manage it.” zh'Ron said quickly with a bit of a glare in her eyes.

“As you wish, Master Chief, I appreciate your assistance.  I require a slight charge, so I will retire for a small time to the Chief's office.” he stated calmly.

Albert lifted off, and his wings pulled out the metal sliding themselves into their small sockets so that they were ready for directional assistance.  He began to head over to Blue's office where she had placed a charging station there for him.  He could go a long time without running out of his power, however, he felt that it was wise to take a break after the hostility from zh'Ron and he liked to 'top off' when he had the time so that if the needs of the ship arose he would not be low on his power systems.

Settling on his port the wireless charging capabilities that Miss Blue had installed began their work and lights that created his 'eyes' around his ocular sensors began to swirl around as the charging took place.
