EP2: S [Day 2 | 2300 hrs] A Blast From The Past...

After arriving from the Apache/Theurgy Fleet...

Coming fresh off the Allegiant, Alana was restless. Beaming onto a derelict Constitution Refit wasn't on her Bingo card today, though, with all the massive things that had transpired. Part of her was giddy at the situation as she wondered why and how it ended up in Romulan space. Thankfully, the other crew managed to salvage her on the way to the Theurgy on their own mission. And even more thankful, she was the only one that had actually served on one, let alone was an executive officer on one.

She beamed internally as this was a dream come true with the multitude of madness going on around them, she had the opportunity to serve on one again, albeit for a short sting. Pierce secretly hoped it would survive this battle, but that was unlikely with its antiquated systems. However, the Ferengi, before selling on the black market the Profit's Claw to the Takarans, managed to upgrade her weapons with disruptors instead of phasers, allowing for a more potent shot.

After materializing on the transporter, it looked as she expected it to. Old, but not unlike some mid-24th-century transporter bays. Although it had the older LCARS green and black screens. Passing the transporter, she walked into the nearest turbolift and called out the deck location. Tapping her combadge, she signaled the allied ships. "Anyone looking to help a lost cause create frustration out there, feel free to beam over to the Profit's Claw. She's old, but I happen to know a thing or two about these old girls." She said with a warm smile, reminiscing.

"Bridge" she commanded.

It took a little less time than the Theurgy, mostly due to the fact that it was tiny by comparison. "She's a nice ship, sir."

Pierce smiled and looked at Ashley. "That she is. Not as clean as I'd like, but it's stolen goods. If only we knew what ship she was..." She pondered it, but something felt eerily familiar about the Profit's Claw. Something she felt like was a ghost from her past.

The lift eventually made it to the bridge, and it was exactly as she'd expected it to. Touch dials, a dark interior with a carpet, and a railing around the perimeter. She walked to the chair and touched it, and as she did, a familiar thought hit her. Some ding she thought she recognized on the edge of the seat.

Ashley filed in and ran to the science station to scan the area for hostiles and cloaking signatures. "Well, 'Captain', we're definitely not alone. The Wolves, 3 Vectors, Apache, Allegiant, and a slew of other friendlies and unfriendlier vessels are flying about. It's definitely not going to be smooth sailing." She said in an almost Vulcan calm.

Tapping her combadge. "Pierce to Battle Bridge. Theurgy, stay tuned. We may need emergency beam-outs in the near future. Stay locked in on our signals and be ready if I give the call. For now, we're heading in as another reinforcement for target practice to distract them."

Pressing the badge, she cut comms. "Lt. Kerina, can you tell me what ship we're officially on?"

Scanning the computer as she had other priorities ongoing, she found the data file. "It appears to be the..." She paused. "This can't be right, she's supposed to be at the Fleet Museum. Sir, she's the USS Eagle." A quizzical glance shot at her CO.

Alana took a grander look around, issues aside from the mission, this was a shock. This wasn't just any ship, it was her ship. The one lost to time. She was home. How fitting it was to be with her at such a pivotal moment. If she died, she'd be home, and if she lived, even if the USS Eagle didn't survive this, well, she'd be remembered with a Pierce in command finally. A chance to be born again from the ashes of the Eagle.

The USS Eagle shuddered lightly as the space around her began to shake from the battle nearing them. Pierce could see on the viewscreen the Wolves, more specifically, Tessa, doing barrel rolls out there among Romulan ships. "Computer, transfer command authorization, Pierce-Zero-Five-Nine-Omega."

Command verification accepted. USS Eagle is now under the command of Commander Pierce.

She smiled. "Would you look at that? She remembered me..."

Ashley turned around in confusion, not understanding the reference Pierce seemingly muttered under her breath before resuming her station.

Alana got up from the Captain's chair after giving it a brief touch to the armrest and was about to sit at her old station of tactical at the CONN when out of the turbolift, Ensign William Lewis arrived from the Theurgy Intel department to take over at the CONN. Before sitting down, a communique from engineering chirped to the Captain's chair. Leaning over, she tapped the controls. "Pierce here."

"Petty Officer First Class ‘Scruffy’ Leblanc reporting in at engineering, sir."

"Keep an eye on the engines and make sure you watch the EPS conduits. I have an idea that I'm sure is going to tax them as we get more involved. Stay tuned, Pierce out." She punched the close channel tab on the command chair and gracefully took her chair.

And now she waited for any additional help before heading out.

When the call came for officers and crew to staff a deviled refit constitution class starship, Hathev immediately jumped at the chance.

Yes, her decision was logically sound. Although she had not served on board a constitution class vessel before, she had served during their time in active service and knew much about their operation. She had no direct role on board ship, but neither did she aboard Theurgy at the moment and have her knowledge would do the most good. More importantly, she realized, she had wanted to go. While logic agreed with her conclusion, the Vulcan also understood that she was going no matte-what logic had told her.

Perhaps that is what Cross was trying to say when we vacationed, she mused.

The Vulcan did not, however, expect to see a Trill aboard ship who looked exactly like Lt. Reggiene Suder. They crossed paths in the transporter boy and the lookalike almost immediately crossed to her, her tactical gear gleaming in the lights of the corridor.

“Let me guess, I look like someone you know.”

“Indeed, you do.”

“Yeah, I'm getting that a lot right now.” She extended a hand. “Lieutenant Kestra Pren. I’m newly assigned to Theurgy. Lieutenant. Suder doesn't yet know I’m coming aboard and suffice to say, she and I will have much to discuss. I would appreciate your discretion on this topic?”

Hathev nodded her silent agreement and made a mental note that she might need to clear her schedule for the pilot.

“Thank you Commander...” her voice trailed off.

“Hathev,” she replied.

The turbolift came to a stop and the two of them stepped out onto the bridge. Larger than that of the Theseus, the layout was much the same.. Yes, she had made the correct decision. She surveyed the officers or station before turning her attention to Alana Pierce in the captain's chair.

“Lieutenant Commander Hathev reporting, Captain.”

For for part Kestra was taken aback. She had studied those old birds, but beyond a holodeck simulation, never thought she would actually be on board one. But desperate times called for desperate measures, and desperate measures were right up her alley.

“Lieutenant Kestra Pren, reporting as well, Captain.” She allowed only the briefest of pauses before adding, “Where do you need us?”

As the remaining crew came about, albeit a skeleton crew, she knew this mission had little chance of success. But with her familiarity with the ship and with intelligence reports, she had a trick up her sleeve yet. Hearing the turbolift doors open with the familiar swish that she remembered only in her dreams now, two officers walked in. One from their mission on Romulus, Commander Hathev. And the second...Reggie? She wondered with a quizzical look on her face as the woman looked familiar, and yet not, with the markings of a Trill, and a different color collar around her neck. She shook her head and figured now wasn't the time to get this question answered, with everything around the vicinity going to hell in a handbasket.

"Welcome aboard, Commander. I suspect based on reports that you've served on one of these old gals before...." She paused with a smirk in Hathev's direction, figuring now was as good a time as any to spill some of the beans of her past. "...Well...so have I. In fact, this very ship which somehow fate decided to bring home to me." Her hand caressed the

Ashley turned around in confusion, not knowing what Alana was even remotely talking about, as she wasn't Romulan, Vulcan, Trill, or El Aurien. So how could she be alive and still young? She'd have to ask later. She turned back to her console at the Science station as Alana welcomed another to the bridge.

"Welcome about, and you are...?" Alana said to the woman with the striking resemblance to Reggie, whom she greatly admired. But was it her? Pierce didn't know what was going on, but she carried herself differently. The recognition is there, but not understanding.

"I need someone on tactical in the event we need to fire. It looks like whoever commandeered the USS Eagle from the Fleet Museum and received it from the Ferengi gave us disruptor upgrades, and we still have photon torpedoes in the bay. Any takers?" Pierce fished with the crew remaining.

Turning to face the viewer in her chair, Pierce waved for Hathev to come forward. "What's the status out there? I know this old girl won't stand up much to the likes of the modern ships, but this old girl knows how to see ghosts. You just have to remember where to look—and where not to flinch." She, of course, was referring to the cataloging of gaseous anomalies tech these ships typically carried. Something Kirk and Spock once used against a Bird of Prey.

"I beg your pardon, sir? What's that?" The green woman spoke to the crimson-haired commander.

"Romulans emit a flutter in the 4.2 terahertz band. Creating a distortion in subspace..." She played with her hair as she tapped the armrest.

Turning in her chair, she looked at Hathev and then Lt. Kerina. "Lieutenant. Is it possible to decipher the Romulan fleet's whereabouts? In my day, we used photon torpedoes, repurposing them with add-on scanners that honed in on cloaked vessels' plasma ion trails. Essentially, making a big blast to re-target. My guess is that it won't work with these modern Romulan vessels, that is unless there is enough of their gravity wells detonating to cause a flux in their cloaks. I need options people. If there are cloaked ships out there, I want to find them before they find us. Ideas?"

Perking up, Ashley knew of another method from her time with the Enterprise crew. Having read up on Commander Data and his career, she noted of a situation Data detected an invasion fleet of Romulans. "One of the more famous cases was back in 2368—USS Sutherland, under Data's command. They ran a tachyon detection grid during a standoff with the Romulans."

"Right, the blockade during the Klingon civil war. But I need more than a history lesson—what did they actually do?"

"It got interesting. When the grid was disrupted, Data suspected the interference might’ve left behind residual tachyon signatures—basically a faint breadcrumb trail from a cloaked ship. Problem was, the area was already saturated with tachyons, so isolating any specific trace was nearly impossible."

"Thankfully, we lack that particular problem since we've not flooded the area with tachyons. So he couldn’t track them?"

"Not directly. But he pivoted—ordered a halt, reconfigured the sensors for ionized particle traces. It was a gamble. His XO, Hobson, thought it was reckless… even dangerous. Re-initializing the phasers for detection flooded three decks with radiation."

"A big risk. Sounds like a fun day in engineering." She said with a smirk on her face.

"It wasn’t popular. Hobson nearly refused the order. But Data stuck to his gut. He fired a high-energy level-six torpedo burst—wouldn’t do damage, but enough to force a cloaked ship’s systems to react. They caught a Romulan vessel red-handed. The burst lit up its signature just enough for sensors to grab a trace."

Intrigued, Pierce pondered the possibilities. "Risky, but effective. Could we replicate something similar?" She asked Hathev and Kestra.

Ashley perked back up, "With our current sensor package and maybe a little Ferengi “borrowing,” yes sir. We’d need to recalibrate for residual ionization patterns and prep torpedo burst warheads. It’ll strain the emitters and probably fry a few EPS relays, but it’s doable."

"Hmm... What about if we create a tachyon pulse from the main deflector dish? Essentially, we could emit short, concentrated tachyon bursts to sweep an area for cloak disruption. Would we melt anything important?"

Ahsley shrugged but offered up a solution. "Not sure, but I think it's likely we'd damage sections of the ship."

"Hathev, or Kestra, any ideas or experience here?"

Alana hated to put her old ship in danger, especially knowing it likely wouldn't survive the battle. "We don't really have a choice it seems." She paused before tapping her badge. "Scruffy. Can you modify the deflector dish to emit tachyon detection bursts? I'd like to give the Wolves and the Theurgy something solid to hit between the ones coming off cloak to fire."

"I believe so, sir. That's brilliant! It's not as wide-reaching as a fleet-based tachyon net, but it can reveal residual cloak disturbance or at least an outline of a cloaked vessel if it’s nearby. I can make the necessary modifications right away if we're going that direction. He said, running to the control panel in engineering to make the tests on the systems.

"Whatever we do, we need to be subtle since we aren't much use in full-on battle here."

"Aye!" He yelled back as Pierce closed the channel.

"Get ready team! We're in for a bumpy ride." She leaned back in her chair, coordinating her intel reports with the battle commencing.

OOC: Feel free to add or give ideas. I'd prewritten some ideas, but we can go wherever here. Eventually, we'll have to beam of,f but I wanna give the others some fighting chances too before we have to abandon and blow the ship up.

Warrant Officer Fraz Hirrentz gritted his teeth as the Eagle shuddered under another glancing hit from a Romulan fighter. Sparks flew across the console, and warning klaxons screamed. “Structural integrity down five percent! Hull breach detected aft starboard!” he barked into his comm. Fingers flying over the torpedo controls, he initiated a series of **photon torpedo pings**, each carefully timed to act as improvised sensors for cloaked enemies.

“Knox’s data is streaming in,” Hirrentz added, overlaying the stolen fighter’s targeting coordinates with the Eagle’s sensor grid. “We’ve got a flicker on bearing 225 mark two—definitely cloaked!”

Fen Chao’s eyes darted across multiple displays, rapidly converting raw ping results into actionable intel for the main fleet. “Wolf pilots, this is Eagle. Cloaked Romulans detected at bearing 225. Helmet and Ranger, vector adjusted—recommend evasive positioning to intercept.” She relayed the updates in rapid succession, keeping every ally aware of the hidden threats. Her fingers danced over comm panels, routing updates seamlessly between Federation and Klingon pilots.

Another violent impact rocked the ship. A fighter clipped the dorsal hull, sending a spray of sparks into the corridor and knocking Lieutenant Hathev to one knee. Chief Petty Officer Nina Nilsson slammed herself against a bulkhead to brace as another disruptor bolt tore a furrow across the forward phaser array. “Hull integrity falling! Deck seven’s pressure failing!” she called out. Her team scrambled to seal bulkheads while covering every exposed point, rifles blazing at incoming boarders that tried to exploit the chaos.

Petty Officer First Class Thomas “Boom” Nigel-Timmons leapt over a fallen conduit, wincing as a minor arc of plasma licked past his arm. “Deflector’s overloaded—ten percent capacity left!” he shouted, recalibrating the tachyon bursts. “Hirrentz, keep those torpedoes pinging; we can’t let these Romulans slip by!” Sparks hissed from the control panel, but with a grin he added, “If the old girl’s going down, she’s going to take every last sneak attack with her.”

Hirrentz nodded, steadying himself against the console. “Ping volley three in the sequence—firing now!” The sensors blinked, and the faint outline of multiple cloaked vessels appeared on the screens. Fen Chao immediately relayed the detections to Wolf pilots in the fight, Helmet, and Ranger, giving them a window to engage the otherwise invisible enemies.

Nilsson barked orders to security teams, shoving them toward corridors where stray Romulans attempted boarding runs. Sparks and smoke filled the Eagle’s halls, but the crew kept the lines intact. Even as the ship groaned under new impacts, the coordinated effort of torpedo pings, sensor relays, and phaser fire created a deadly net for the Romulans.

“Targets confirmed, bearings verified,” Chao called. “Fleet, engage on my mark. Eagle has your eyes in the shadows.”

The Eagle shuddered once more, but for the first time, the crew could see the previously invisible threats clearly—and the balance of the battle shifted, if only slightly, in favor of Theurgy and its allies.

Internally, Pierce was happy her old ship and current command were doing so well in the fight despite the ricochet off the hull plates. It was luck, pure unadulterated luck, that they were managing to survive this situation. She was lucky, too, for she had many whom she trusted on the bridge, along with a few new faces. Nevertheless, she was ready for what may come.

The USS Eagle groaned under the weight of the Romulan barrage. The bridge was bathed in smoke and firelight, sparks spitting from half-dead consoles at the rear of the bridge. Luckily, no one was around them when the sparks erupted violently in every direction. Every alarm screamed at once, the ancient Constitution-class Refit barely holding together now. Alana Pierce sat rigidly with a slight lean forward in the captain’s chair, one hand gripping the armrest, the other steadying herself against the violent tremors that threatened to throw her clear from her post.

"Damn..." She muttered. "The ship is barely holding on now." Looking at the viewscreen, she saw the Romulans intercepting them now that the deflectors were causing a stir in their cloaking systems. The Wolves were fired up and swarming, as were the other allied ships.

“Structural integrity collapsing on multiple decks!” a voice called through the chaos. “Hull breaches in sections nine through twelve—containment fields failing!”

They weren't going to last, Alana thought to herself. Now was the time for a final decisive action to rock Donatra's vessel and scatter the Romulan fleet. With hope, they'd get off this ship in time. Pierce’s gaze locked on the viewscreen. Donatra’s warbird loomed ahead, its massive silhouette cutting through the stars despite the explosions surrounding her, its disruptor banks powering for another volley. Around them, allied ships scrambled in desperate maneuvers, but the enemy line sadly held firm.

She knew now, this was it. This was the moment. The Eagle had done her duty, bought time with every second of survival. But she wouldn’t survive much longer. Not unless they made it count. Pierce, regaining her composure, rose to her feet and, with a commanding voice, despite the deck rattling beneath her boots, spoke.

"All right, Eagle. One last dance."

Ashley turned to Alana at that statement, unaware that things were about to get much more grim. “You’re insane.”

Smirking, Alana looked over at the Lieutenant before returning her gaze to the viewscreen once more. “That’s why it’ll work.”

Pierce rose to her feet, voice sharp and steady even as the deck rattled beneath her boots. "Helm… bring us about. Target Donatra’s flagship."

The helmsman looked back in shock, his face pale under the red emergency lights. "Captain… if we do that—"

"—we end this. Ramming speed."

For a heartbeat, the bridge went silent except for the wail of alarms. Then Ensign Lewis voice broke through, calm but resolute. "Course laid in, Commander. On your order."

Pierce settled back into her chair, her decision carved into every line of her face. The glow of the fires on the rear of the bridge erupted further as the bridge's lights were covered in darkness, and the red alert klaxon sounded on every available screen and panel. She leaned forward, and the word was given. "Engage."

The Eagle lurched forward, engines screaming in protest as power was shunted to the drive. Scruffy in the engineering, barely holding the old girl together. The stars stretched on the viewer, the ship’s frame rattling like it might tear apart before impact. Fires grew, more consoles sparked, and the crew braced themselves against the unstoppable momentum.

The warbird grew larger and larger—until impact. The collision ripped through both ships in a cataclysmic explosion of metal and flame as Donatra's cloak finally and utterly failed. The Eagle’s saucer punched deep into the Romulan hull, tearing open decks in a violent cascade. Secondary detonations ripped through Donatra’s vessel as its shields failed too.

On the USS Eagle’s bridge, chaos reigned as most of the officers, Alana and Ashley included, were thrown across the deck, smoke choked the little air they had left, and systems overloaded in showers of sparks. Helm controls fried, as were weapons and shields. They were toast.

Scruffy from Engineering barked through comms, the voice nearly drowned by static. “Warp core containment breach! Sixty seconds!”

Ashley’s fingers flew across her console, shouting above the loud sounds of system collapse. "We can’t stabilize it! The ship’s tearing itself apart!"

Gritting her teeth, Alana forced herself upright despite the searing ache in her ribs and face that had taken a nice little gash to it. Her eyes swept the bridge—flames consuming the panels, consoles sparking, the battered remains of her crew clinging to their posts. For a brief moment, she saw the ghost of her past—the Eagle as she once knew her, whole and proud. It made her proud. It made her whole again. She knew who she was again. It wasn't the body she resided in, it was the personality. One, she regained thanks to her last surviving comrade, the USS Eagle.

Her voice dropped, meant more for herself than the crew. "She’s done her duty. And so have we. Time to go." She slapped her combadge. "Theurgy, lock onto the bridge crew—prepare emergency transport. Then any remaining survivors on the ship. She's not going to last."

Ashley appeared at her side with a few bruises but otherwise not in the same state as Pierce was, steadying herself as the transporter whine filled the room. "Alana, it’s time to go."

Pierce hesitated, just long enough to look around one final time. The captain’s chair. The scorched railings. The heart of the ship that had carried her once, and now was ending with her. "Goodbye, old friend. Thank you for giving me my life back and showing me who I was. Rest well old girl, you've earned it."

The blue hue of the transporter beam shimmered, engulfing them in blue light just as the Eagle’s core went critical.

From the outside, the battered once white shelled starship erupted in a final, blinding explosion. The warp core explosion from detonated dilithium consumed the Eagle, shredding what remained and sending shockwaves across the battlefield. Chunks of Donatra’s flagship spun away in the wake of the detonation, crippled and burning. Shards from both ships rocketed off in every direction, devastating the smaller fleet of Romulans and damaging a lot of the larger ones that were cloaked, causing them to decloak. The Wolves managed to dodge the shards shooting their way but barely.

On the ship's transporter pad, Alana and her surviving bridge officers rematerialized, battered, burned, but alive. Pierce staggered, the weight of loss pressing heavily on her shoulders. Ashley was at her side instantly, but Alana’s gaze was fixed out the viewport, where the wreckage of her ship drifted among the stars.

For a long moment, she said nothing. Then, quietly, almost reverently: "Home at last. Now we finish it."

OOC: Finished this thread sadly wasn't longer but jumped it a little and at least was able to evolve Alana somewhat from her poor helpless self not that it won't resurface but she'll be more sure of herself now in her skin. But not sure what ship to have them materialize on so I kept it vague for us all to decide elsewhere.
